The hotel

Take in the rich heritage and stately décor of ‘The First Lady of Waikiki’. Something of a legendary resort, it cleverly combines turn-of the-century Victorian elegance with modern luxuries. Relax by the pool area, under the shade of the historic banyan tree, or on the resorts private section of beach. Fancy a bit of pampering? Treat yourself to an amazing experience at the Moanalani Spa, the only oceanfront Spa in Waikiki, where the menu features relaxing treatments inspired by traditional Hawaiian healing techniques. Dining is a treat here — from the oceanfront setting of Beachhouse at the Moana to the delightful island tradition of afternoon tea at the Veranda at the Beachhouse. For a pre-dinner glass of wine or artisan beer, head to Vintage 1901 overlooking the banyan tree, or enjoy a tropical drink with live entertainment at The Beach Bar.

Expedia was very helpful saying they would help us book elsewher, however none of the open hotels were as good of a location. We were offered a $50 per day discount. Really???!!! They would not upgrade our room, they would not allow is to go to pools within the ownership(Marriot)). Basically the staff at the front desk employees were SO rude! we chose this hotel based on our knowledge that Westin Hotels are in general great. I normally stay at the Kahala Resort. We did not because My friend wanted to stay downtown. LONG story short: even when they open up the pool, DO NOT STAY HERE! GO TO THE KAHALA RESORT. THEY ARE THE BEST Read less

You are in the heart of Waikiki, quite literally steps away from the ocean. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We fell asleep listening to the ocean waves which was so peaceful. We participated in morning yoga and meditation (free for guests) and the instructors were so lovely. You have an assortment of fine dining, poolside bites, a coffee shop and stores right in the hotel. The staff are so kind- everyone we met was awesome. Shoutout to Alex at the beach/pool desk, he was courteous and helpful! Everything you really want to do in Waikiki is a short walk or drive away. Can’t recommend this hotel enough- we hope to come back! Read less

Wonderful place with great on the beach vibe. Would have be 5 stars but we will give no hotel 5 stars as long as “resort fees” are being charged. Between our schedule and what is offered - hula lessons? Lei making? We paid $45 a night for nothing.

Really enjoy the location of this hotel and how it allows you to access all of Waikiki. Our check-in experience was terrible. We arrived at 8am and appreciate check-in is at 3pm. The staff advised our room would most likely be ready at 12 noon. We had two rooms booked. We were told that luggage at check in didn’t open until 9am for storage, and had to take our luggage back to the car arrival area. We wanted to get changed but men’s toilets were out of order and quite honestly too hard to open luggage etc. At 1pm we enquired about our rooms and were told it would be 3pm. We effectively lost a whole day thanks to poor management and unhelpful rude staff. My next issue was every night anywhere between 1.30 am and 3.00 am there was a loud noise that sounded like shoveling on pavement. Every night this happened for at least 1/2 hour. I mentioned to the front desk midway through our stay and was told to ring reception when it happens. Easier said than done as my husband sleeps through anything so didn’t want to wake him to make a call in the middle of the night. On my last morning at around 6.30am I heard it and discovered it was staff uprighting the sun beds. Our other party in the other room were also woken each night. I can’t believe the management find this acceptable to make really loud noises without regard for guests. Finally we treated ourselves to the Breakfast on the Terrace at $48 per person. Lovely experience and food was great, however when I asked for our coffees to be in take away cups I was surprised to see $6 for each on the bill. Apparently take away coffees are “specialty” coffees. That is absolutely absurd. This is my 6th stay at The Moana but found they have let their standard drop, and felt like it had lost its shine.
