The hotel

Take in the rich heritage and stately décor of ‘The First Lady of Waikiki’. Something of a legendary resort, it cleverly combines turn-of the-century Victorian elegance with modern luxuries. Relax by the pool area, under the shade of the historic banyan tree, or on the resorts private section of beach. Fancy a bit of pampering? Treat yourself to an amazing experience at the Moanalani Spa, the only oceanfront Spa in Waikiki, where the menu features relaxing treatments inspired by traditional Hawaiian healing techniques. Dining is a treat here — from the oceanfront setting of Beachhouse at the Moana to the delightful island tradition of afternoon tea at the Veranda at the Beachhouse. For a pre-dinner glass of wine or artisan beer, head to Vintage 1901 overlooking the banyan tree, or enjoy a tropical drink with live entertainment at The Beach Bar.

The hotel itself is lovely. We stayed in a tower room, recently renovated, clean, well appointed, fantastic view. We asked for a high floor and it was quiet at night. However, the pool situation is a mess. There are about 40 pool chairs for an enormous hotel with multiple wings. They are all reserved between 5:30 and 6 AM in the morning. And the pool is tiny. It’s not a resort style pool that can accommodate a ton of guests. Maybe 20-30 max at a time. For that reason, it’s not a great place for kids or families. I’d recommend this as more of an adult hotel. So your only option is the beach. And as others have said there are just so many added fees. Want an umbrella or a beach chair? $100. Valet parking? $65. Late checkout? $100, although we talked to others who were only charged $50. There’s also a daily $45 resort fee, that includes promises of hula and lei making classes that we never saw offered during our stay, and Wi-Fi. Yet as a Bonvoy member we’re supposed to get free Wi-Fi. This resort fee is just a money grab. You can’t even get a pool or beach chair for the mandatory “resort fee.” The hotel is transparent about all these fees, but it’s a total vibe kill and you just feel like you’re getting nickel and dimed everywhere you turn. We loved our stay at the Westin Moana Surfrider hotel. The history, location and the atmosphere is top notch. A special thank you to Keola at the check in. His customer service is exceptional. It’s an honour to the industry to have a worker like him. The most pleasant, professional, warm and happy person. He even offered me cooling lotion, at the… Read more

He even offered me cooling lotion, at the time I needed it the most 😉 We travelled the world , but not very often we remember the workers name , but this time we do. We will always remember our stay at Moana and we will definitely recommend this hotel to all of our friends and family as it’s the best hotel in Waikiki . Read less

Beautiful historic hotel on one of the most beautiful scenic beaches. Sitting and watching the gentle surf break is hypnotizing. I could sit and watch for hours. Rooms were just ok with very small bathrooms but the beauty out weighs it by far. The beach bar and pool area were relaxing and the food and drinks were excellent. Can’t wait to return!

The property is in a great location with beach access. We had 2 rooms- one in the tower with ocean view and the other in the general area of the hotel. The second room was very tight to the point opening a door impeded egress between the bed and door. The pool are is overly crowded- too many guests and not enough chairs & pool space. If you like to relax in the pool, this may not be the property for you. The outside restaurant and bar ( near the pool) is a nice touch with okay food. The staff is absolutely outstanding! From the third party managing the pool to hotel staff, all very pleasant and service oriented. Read less

A hotel used to tourists with island attitude. The room was small, the carpet worn, there are termites, and fees for EVERYTHING. $100.00 beach lounger which needed a reservation, $50.00 for a late checkout that gave you 3 hours, the list goes on. Like some of the other reviewers - I thought this was a Westin so it would be nice. Sadly was very… Read more

Like some of the other reviewers - I thought this was a Westin so it would be nice. Sadly was very underwhelmed. So much accumulated dust behind the nightstands which I had to get to since someone unplugged the clock. Gross. When these issues were brought up, one gets just a shrug. Going back to the Royal Hawaiian next time. Read less
