Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel is not a luxury hotel, and it’s important to set expectations accordingly. This is an economical option, and you pretty much get what you pay for.
One of the highlights for me was the bar and restaurant area. I haven’t eaten there yet, but the food looked good and the space itself is inviting and lively. The location is also a major plus — it’s perfect for getting around all the touristy parts of Waikīkī Beach and close to the action. I traveled during peak season over New Year’s, so the hotel and surrounding area were very crowded, which is to be expected.
That said, the room had several quirks that I couldn’t get past. The shower was the biggest issue. There appeared to be tape in the bathtub covering something, which didn’t feel clean or well-maintained. While the water pressure was strong, it wasn’t adjustable, and the water didn’t drain properly, leaving water pooling in the tub. After using the shower or toilet, there was also a very loud howling noise from the plumbing. The room had a closet, but no doors, which felt unfinished. Additionally, what was advertised as a city view turned out to be a view of a low socioeconomic living area, which was disappointing.
Overall, I would compare this hotel to a Motel 6 in terms of room quality. If location and price are your main priorities and you don’t plan to spend much time in the room, this hotel may work. However, if comfort and room quality matter to you, you may want to consider other options.
To their credit, the hotel did move me to a much nicer room; however, there were still issues. The bathroom soap dispenser did not work properly, and the toilet seat was loose.
I did try to eat at the restaurant for breakfast, but they ran out of French toast, pancakes, and select fruits.
Overall, this hotel may work if budget and location are your priorities, but it is not a place I would consider comfortable or well-maintained.
