The hotel

Inside its iconic 1929 shell, this Jazz Age hotel’s held on to its heritage. The New Yorker was an excellent hotel just for the location on 34th Street and 8th Avenue next to the subway. The quality of the rooms was excellent and very clean. Very helpful front desk staff. When I get to visit NY again I will be staying at this hotel.

Excellent location and very convenient. Its walking distance to most of time square attractions. However the hotel needs an interior refresh, currently the ambiance feels dirty and old. Due to cramped and old feeling of the room and hotel, I mostly stayed out and only came at night to sleep in the hotel.

I don't mind old hotels, but poorly maintained ones are really bad. The rooms were dingy, and the bathrooms were small and poorly maintained. The bathroom tiles were old and showed signs of mold. The air conditioning wasn’t working properly—only the fan was blowing minimal air. There was no Wi-Fi service available, which made it very inconvenient… Read more

Additionally, the hallways leading to the rooms had an unpleasant odor. Read less

As this was our first trip to New York she was and is an invaluable resource. The New Yorker is lucky to have such an amazing employee!! Hotel was awesome also. Rooms are not huge but they were very comfortable for two people and everything was top notch. I would definitely stay there again just to be able to have Neida tell us what we need to see and do!! Nice location, room size was really small as we'd booked a basic room but the security and luggage assistant was helpful. The front desk had a bit of an issue in communicating things timely to the other staff however with the heritage, was great!
