The hotel

Part of the very fabric of Midtown Manhattan, this Art Deco attraction is proudly capped with the red ‘New Yorker’ sign that’s made it a landmark in the city skyline. Inside its iconic 1929 shell, this Jazz Age hotel’s held on to its heritage. Its top location, just a block from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, means you’re well placed for attractions like Macy’s, Times Square and the Empire State Building. And it doesn’t matter what time you finish exploring, its 24-hour Tick Tock Diner will give you a taste of New York with American comfort food classics like burgers and all-day breakfasts. If you fancy something a little more upmarket, the New Yorker’s Trattoria Bianca comes with an oyster bar.

Do NOT book here. The first morning, after delayed flights and getting in a midnight, someone came into our room at 8am. They mixed up our room numbers and thought our room was vacant. We paid extra for a room with a view and got a view of construction and the side of a building. No view at all. (See pic) The TV didn’t work and we asked three… Read more

We paid extra for a room with a view and got a view of construction and the side of a building. No view at all. (See pic) The TV didn’t work and we asked three times for extra blankets and they never came. There are too many other choices in NY so choose something else. They said they would credit us and send an email and I’m still waiting for the email. Read less

It was clogged to the point of having to wash face and brush teeth hanging over the bathtub so the sink would not overflow. I had to put up with it my entire 5 night stay. I think they could have done better. Manager offered after I finally got in touch with one to discount my next stay. Seriously? Read less

It’s 3:00 a.m., and I’m writing this review while clinging to the edge of a so-called “queen” bed that feels more like a generous full. After an 8-hour international flight, my partner and I were counting on a real night’s rest. Instead, we’ve been playing a nightly game of human bumper cars. I double-checked the room specs before booking—but now I’m triple-checking mattress dimensions in the middle of the night on Google, trying to make sense of this. The hotel itself is fine. Location? Great. Staff? Friendly. Vibe? Vintage. But if you’re here for sleep (and isn’t that kind of the point of a hotel?), you might want to bring a measuring tape—or a backup plan.. Read less
