Great place to stay and within walking distance to the US Capitol and many other points of interest. The entire staff at the Hyatt Regency were first class and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit D.C.

We stayed in a newly refurbished room. The hotel is currently undergoing a full refurb, with the lobby under 'construction'. If it turns out the way the photos look, it will be great. As a result, the bar on the 11th floor is smaller in size than the main one was, and will be. It will do, while they are remodelling the main bar. The service in the bar/restaurant was fabulous and the bar snacks really hit the spot. I am liking the tones of black and grey in the newly decorated hallways. Our room was clean and fresh, even with that new carpet smell that you sometimes get. It was a very well refurbished, though it did lack a chest of drawers for clothes. We were living out of our suitcases as a result. Sadly the shower is not as powerful as it was in the un-refurbished room, but in the interest of saving water, I understand why it is less powerful. The bed is VERY comfy! In fact I would go so far as to say it is the most comfy bed I have ever slept in. The gym is NOT undergoing refurb, which is good as I wanted to use it while there. I was also very happy to see a rowing machine, which is where I am focusing my cardio at present. Read less

Hotel under construction. My room reeked of paint smell-strong enough it was very hard to be in the room. The AC unit did not work. Would not cool below 75. Called down twice, engineering never came, no follow-up. Do not stay there until construction is done and they have their act together.

Yes, there is major renovation going on and if this is a deal breaker, stay somewhere else. We had no problems and found the staff ready to handle any issues. The doormen (and women) were extremely welcoming and helped us with directions and info on tourist spots. Hannibal at the front desk was amazing— he greeted us like we were his guests, managed an early check in and explained the renovation situation. We appreciated knowing upfront about any potential problems. We ate breakfast twice in the American Grill restaurant. The food and the service were both excellent. Our waiter, Nisan, recognized us on the second day and came over to talk to us. It was a very welcoming touch. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms Great job! The beds and linens were super comfortable. One suggestion — another towel bar or hook in the bathroom. I would definitely recommend this Hyatt. The location is perfect and the staff go out of their way. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Don’t stay here unless you have to

Would not stay here unless I had a conference in this hotel. Smelly, old rooms. Limited gym access. Exorbitantly overpriced food. Less than helpful staff (if you can actually get someone to answer the front desk phone). Not sure the renovation is going to fix these issues.
