Virgin Atlantic Personal Electronic Device Policy

Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs)

Such as laptops, phones, tablets, cameras, games consoles etc

Power banks, spare batteries, and e-cigarettes are not PEDs. Please refer to the separate policies below for these items.

  • All Portable Electronic Devices must be free from damage (e.g. cracked screens, battery damage, charging issues)
  • All Portable Electronic Devices used onboard must be able to fit into the Fire Containment Bag (37x28x10cm)
  • Portable Electronic Devices that produce direct heat (e.g. hair curlers, heated pads/blankets) cannot not be used
  • Use of the In Seat Power Supply is restricted to phones, tablets, laptops and gaming devices
  • Devices must be in constant use whilst plugged in and must not be left unattended
  • Devices must be unplugged from the power supply during taxi, take-off and landing
  • Other devices can be used onboard, but must ONLY run via battery power and cannot be charged using the In Seat Power Supply (this includes medical devices)

Spare Batteries & Powerbanks

  • Up to 5 Spare Batteries and/or Powerbanks can be carried per passenger dependant on Wh.
  • A maximum of 2 power banks permitted per passenger.
  • All spare batteries and power banks must be free from damage
  • All Spare Batteries and power banks must be individually protected to prevent short circuits when not in use, by placement in original retail packaging or by insulating terminals (taping over exposed terminals or placing each battery/power bank in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch).
  • All spare batteries and power banks must be able to fit into the Fire Containment Bag (37x28x10cm)
  • Spare batteries/power banks should be stowed in an accessible location onboard and NOT in overhead lockers
  • Power banks cannot be plugged into the In Seat Power Supply at ANY time onboard
  • Power banks cannot be used onboard to charge other electronic devices

Electronic Cigarettes

  • E-Cigarettes CANNOT be used at any time onboard
  • E-Cigarettes should be stowed in an accessible location onboard and NOT in overhead lockers
  • E-Cigarettes CANNOT be plugged into the In Seat Power Supply at ANY time onboard
  • E-Cigarettes must be free from damage and must be individually protected to prevent accidental activation and short circuits when not in use, by placement in original retail packaging or by insulating terminals (taping over exposed terminals or placing in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch).
