From beaches and science museums to wild animal encounters and sunset games, here’s our guide to Miami’s best family adventures.
South Beach and South Pointe Park
South Beach’s legendary public shoreline is perfect for early sandcastles and paddling before the heat sets in. Stroll to South Pointe Park for sea views and photo-worthy pastel lifeguard towers.
Our tip: Mornings are best - gentler sun, smaller crowds, and cooler sand for little feet.
Crandon Park Beach, Key Biscayne
A short drive over the Rickenbacker Causeway leads to Key Biscayne’s Crandon Park, where calm shallows, picnic spots, and gentle waves make it ideal for families. Nature trails and a small playground keep everyone happy between swims.
Venetian Pool, Coral Gables
If you fancy a change from the sea, head inland to the historic Venetian Pool - a spring-fed oasis with waterfalls and shallow play zones. It’s open seasonally and children must meet minimum height requirements, so check before you go.
Boat Tours on Biscayne Bay
For something different, hop aboard a family-friendly boat cruise. You’ll see the Miami skyline, island homes, and maybe even dolphins dancing in your wake.

Wynwood Walls
Wynwood’s famous outdoor murals are bold, bright and perfect for young artists (and family selfies). The ideal place for a stroll, with plenty of shaded cafés nearby for a cool-down treat.
Miami Children’s Museum
Colourful, creative and full of imagination, the Miami Children’s Museum is a hands-on favourite. Little explorers can step inside the Castle of Dreams, paint in the Art Studio, or design digital fish that swim through the Sketch Aquarium. And as this is an indoor activity, it's a good break from the heat.
Our tip: Allow around two hours; book ahead to skip queues.
Frost Museum of Science
Across the causeway in Downtown, the Frost Museum of Science combines a planetarium, multi-level aquarium and exhibits on space, sustainability and South Florida’s ecosystems. Older kids will love the rooftop observation deck.
Zoo Miami
Spread across 750 acres, Zoo Miami is home to more than 3,000 animals - from elephants and tigers to flamingos and tortoises. The open-air, cageless layout and splash zones make it one of the most family-friendly zoos in the US.
Jungle Island
Closer to Downtown, Jungle Island offers animal encounters in a tropical setting - think parrots, lemurs and flamingos up close. Great if you’re short on time but still want a taste of the wild.
Virginia Key Beach Park
Just minutes from the city, Historic Virginia Key Beach Park combines shoreline relaxation with outdoor play. Rent a bike, go kayaking, or explore its fascinating civil rights history. Vehicle entry is typically $5 weekdays and $8–12 weekends (subject to change).

Home of the Miami Marlins, the ballpark’s air-conditioned comfort and lively atmosphere make it a winning choice for families. Between innings, sample local snacks and enjoy the family fan zone.
Bayside Marketplace
For a gentler evening, wander Bayside Marketplace by the marina for live music, casual dining, and sunset views across Biscayne Bay.
Miami Light Shows & NightGarden
Seasonal events like the Fairchild Botanic Garden’s NightGarden bring glowing sculptures and illuminated trails - magical for kids (and adults).
Weather is warm and dry from November to April, without being too hot - perfect for days out together.
You'll be best off hiring a car for the day trips beyond the beach.
Always remember hats and plenty of sunscreen. Reusable water bottles are a good idea too.
It's always worth booking ahead for as museums, boat tours, and sports tickets can sell out in peak season.
