The story behind the Airbus A350's Zorro mask
The Airbus A350 has one of the most recognisable faces in the sky. Its black cockpit surround, often nicknamed the “Zorro mask”, gives the aircraft a sharp, futuristic look — but this detail is about more than style.
On the A350, design and performance are closely linked. The curved cockpit glass helps the air flow smoothly over the nose of the aircraft, while the black windshield area supports maintenance and temperature management around the windows. Add the long swept wings, red-tipped sharklets and Virgin Atlantic livery, and you have an aircraft that looks distinctive because so much of it has been engineered to work beautifully.
