However you like to travel, Phuket has a side that fits. Here, your trip could mean sunrise swims and slow breakfasts, night markets and beach clubs, family-friendly resorts, tucked-away villas, or full-throttle days that end somewhere neon-lit and noisy.

Whether you’re travelling with family, planning something romantic or heading off on your own, here’s our guide on where to stay in Phuket.

Best for first-time visitors: lively Patong, with breathing room

Patong is Phuket’s most popular resort area for a reason. It's lively, well connected, and packed with places to eat, shop, and stay out late. It’s also a handy base for a first visit, especially when you want to experience Phuket’s livelier side without spending half the day getting there - but that doesn't mean you have to stay right in the thick of it.

Amari Phuket is a smart choice for getting the Patong experience without being thrown into the middle of the after-dark buzz. Set in a private beachfront position with views over Patong Bay, it’s close enough to wander towards the nightlife when curiosity calls, but calm enough for slow mornings, pool time and proper sleep.

Best for honeymooners: private villas, slow mornings and sunset views

This is the moment for private pools, long breakfasts, spa rituals and a little bit of romantic isolation. You’ll want somewhere that feels special the second you arrive, but still gives you the freedom to explore when you’re ready.

Banyan Tree Phuket is made for just this kind of trip. Set within the tranquil Laguna Phuket resort complex, it offers all-villa accommodation with private pools, elegant Thai design and a soft, secluded calm that feels made for two. The award-winning spa, romantic dining experiences and polished surroundings make it a natural choice for couples who want their honeymoon to feel cocooned, indulgent and totally spectacular.

For a softer, more tucked-away escape, we love The Vijitt. Here, private villas sit in a peaceful beachfront setting overlooking Chalong Bay, away from Phuket’s busier areas. The mood is intimate and low-key, with beautiful sunsets and a more local, lived-in side of the island. Choose it if your idea of a honeymoon is less see-and-be-seen, more barefoot evenings, warm sea air and nowhere urgent to be.

Best for couples: Kamala calm or Kata Noi romance

Not every couples’ holiday needs the full honeymoon treatment. Sometimes you just want the beach, good food, a grown-up atmosphere, and to properly switch off.. Phuket has plenty of places that fit that brief, especially around Kamala and Kata Noi.

Sunprime Kamala Beach is a great option for couples who want an adults-only stay without feeling cut off from local life. It sits on quieter Kamala Beach, with multiple swimming pools, a relaxed pace and restaurants, bars and markets within walking distance.

For something more cinematic, The Shore at Katathani is one of Phuket’s most romantic adults-only resorts. The private pool villas come with panoramic sea views, and the setting above Kata Noi Beach gives the whole place a secluded, special-occasion feel. It works beautifully for milestone moments, or any trip where you want to make ordinary days feel a bit more golden.

Best for families: easy beach days in Kata Noi and Karon

Kata Noi and Karon make family days feel simple. Both have long stretches of sand, plenty of places to eat, and a softer pace than Phuket's busiest nightlife areas.

Katathani Phuket Beach Resort is a standout family choice, with direct access to Kata Noi Beach, spacious family rooms, pools, kids’ clubs, and plenty of activities. For the fullest experience, the Vhari wing is the one to know, with a water park, lazy river, wave pool, and one of the largest kids’ clubs in Southern Thailand. Children get the holiday of their dreams, while grown-ups get a little more room to breathe.

Phuket Emerald Beach Resort is another great option, especially for families who want modern rooms, good value, and plenty to keep children busy. Close to Karon Beach and local attractions, it has family-friendly swimming pools and a fantastic splash park. Ideal for younger children who judge every holiday by the quality of the slides.

Best for solo travellers: Patong energy, Phuket at your own pace

Solo travel means setting your own agenda, and Phuket is all about balance. You might want sociable restaurants, guided tours, beach clubs, markets and nightlife within easy reach, but also somewhere that feels comfortable when you’re ready to switch off. Staying near Patong can make sense, because it gives you access to the island’s liveliest dining, shopping and after-dark scene, plus plenty of transport options and organised trips.

Diamond Cliff suits solo travellers who want that access without being right in the middle of the noise. Its hillside setting brings wide sea views and a relaxed atmosphere, while Patong’s restaurants, nightlife, and shops are close by. Back at the hotel, spa and wellness facilities give you space to recharge between days out. It’s a great choice if you like the idea of travelling independently, but don’t want to feel remote.

So which part of Phuket is right for you?

Choose Patong for nightlife, restaurants and an energetic first stay. Kata Noi and Karon suit relaxed beach days and family trips, while Kamala offers a quieter base for couples. For honeymoons, a private villa gives you more space and privacy. Travelling solo? Patong makes it easy to dip in and out of the action.
