John Muir Lodge is in an excellent location for exploring Kings Canyon National Park and giant sequoia country. A warm welcome awaits under the lodge's open beamed ceiling and in front of the stone fireplace, ensuring all guests get to feel right at home. Accommodation follows suit and you'll discover recently renovated rooms with hand crafted furniture and local artwork adding to the instant appeal. After a good night's rest there's nothing better than an early start to soak up the sun rising over the sequoias. Picnic supplies can be picked up at the general stores opposite the lodge and once you've packed up the fishing tackle, charged your camera and hit the trail, it's time to discover just what John Muir fell in love with way back when.

Rustic but very comfortable lodge, with very friendly staff and a few great things (freshly baked cookies, coffee available in the morning, a ton of board games and a beautiful porch). I would definitely recommend !

The hotel is not well maintained. Parking was limited and the front desk clerk was rude to me. This is not the original hotel, but a cheaply rebuilt version that doesn’t have the same charm as the original lodges. The park itself is beautiful and the park rangers were very helpful. Visit the park, but stay somewhere else.

We absolutely loved this place. The location is fabulous for King’s Canyon. Our room for three adults was super clean and way better than reviews suggest. It’s quite clear when you book that there is no air con. We stayed mid-July, it was 85 degrees during the day, the Lodge had set the room up with a fan, we opened the window (bug screen) wide… Read more

We stayed mid-July, it was 85 degrees during the day, the Lodge had set the room up with a fan, we opened the window (bug screen) wide and had the best night’s sleep with cool fresh mountain air (x2). Super friendly and helpful staff, including freshly baked cookies, thanks team!! You are in the middle of two national parks and it was 100% worth every cent. Read less

They text us the day before to let us know if we needed any special request. When we got to the hotel reservation with speedy, customer service was really good. Our rooms were the two double queens. Very spacious and we were able to connect our rooms together so that our daughters and us could be close, but not that close. The water is kind of funky/mineral. Good thing the hotel has refillable water stations with filtered water. Hotel is located in same area as the Grant Grove market, cafeteria, so extra convenient Heads up, there is no air-conditioning, but at 6200 ft elevation the fans in the room do just fine Would definitely come back and stay there if I’m on the Kings Canyon side of park Read less

We stayed here for two nights, and it is not that big as it is two levels and 36 rooms in total and was built back in 1998. We stayed here for two nights, and it is not that big as it is two levels and 36 rooms in total and was built back in 1998. The lobby area is nice as there are multiple tables to sit at and relax at, and we (and other families) took advantage and use it to play board games. There is a fireplace as well. One nice touch is that they offer coffee for free, which is a refreshing change as we are used to getting nicked and dimed with everything else. As for the room itself, it was a decent size, but the bathroom was small and the shower head was really at a low level, probably the lowest I have seen at a hotel (and it was a regular bathtub, so it wasn’t for handicap reasons). There is a TV as well with cable but there were not a ton of channels. However, I did not mind as I’ve been to other national park lodges where you got no TV, wireless, or a refrigerator at all, and it came with all of them. One other nice touch is on each floor there is a place you can go outside and there are some rocking chairs where you can just relax and unwind. Unfortunately, we did not have time to take advantage of it. The lodge is at a good location because you can just walk to the general store, gift shop, visitor center, and restaurant (however don't eat there and see separate review - Grant Grove) from there. Parking in front of the lodge is a little limited, but if you cannot get a spot, you can get something about 5 minutes away so it is not a big deal. Overall, we liked it and would stay here again.
