Built in the same decade as the Brooklyn Bridge, The Beekman had stiff competition when it came to architectural neighbours – but its glamour and grace granted it kudos with the building buffs of the 19th century – and today. This skyscraper’s kept its drama with its marble entrance, Persian rug-slung lobby, and Victorian balustrade-draped atrium, which stretches nine storeys skyward before being capped with a glass pyramid. It’s not just opulent in design though, with its ‘nothing’s-too-much-trouble’ service and dining scene mirroring its old-world splendour and new-world luxury. Two of Manhattan’s finest names are behind The Beekman’s restaurants: Tom Colicchio reinterprets old and new classics at Temple Court, while Keith McNally recreates French brasserie elegance at Augustine. Or you could join the socialites (and sometimes celebs) at The Alley Cat for cocktails and Japanese Izakaya comfort food.

Beautiful hotel with amazing gallery space, bar and restaurant. Great staff, it's comfortable and the rooms are much more spacious than a normal NY hotel.

I arrived to the hotel for a 3-night stay/girl's weekend with my 2 best friends from out of town, and from the moment we arrived, it was constant, misinformation, confusion and lack of responsibility from the front desk staff and senior management. I had booked 2 separate reservations (one for me and my friends under my name and then one for my husband for an additional 4th night) before we returned abroad where we live) and was told by 3 front desk staff that we would still be given separate $100 F&B credits as they were 2 different reservations made at 2 different times. And just to be sure, one of the front desk attendants even advised me to REBOOK my husband's room under HIS name and credit card (as I had originally booked it under mine) just to be sure there was no confusion that it was 2 bookings, so I took the time to do this. Then when my friends and I went to check out after our weekend (3 nights), the front desk had already mistakenly checked us out (so my friend almost missed her train bc they wouldn't let her back in the room to retrieve her luggage) and checked in my husband who hadn't even arrived yet! When this happened there was no apology for checking us out early and without us even paying yet! I understand hotel security and why bc of protocol they couldn't let us back in the room, but I had clearly asked for a LATE check out earlier that morning so it was the desk attendant's mistake to check us out EARLY and not once was there an apology. My friend then just caught her train by minutes and it overall was a very stressful experience. Once my husband arrived later that afternoon and was given the keys we thought everything was figured out and clarified. Then the next morning when we went to check out, the front desk attendant informed us that he had ALREADY checked us out and had charged my husband's credit card (without his authorization or even showing him the charges breakdown first). They also informed us that we would NOT be receiving the $100 F&B credit bc it was ONE reservation (which it was not, just bc I stayed in the room with my husband) AND to make matters even worse, once they showed us the breakdown of charges, there was a charge that wasn't even OURS that the desk attendant would not take off the bill, so my husband was charged for a meal that was not his that was had by my friends and mistakenly was forgotten on THEIR bill before he even arrived!) This meal should have been on my friend's bill that she paid a day earlier. AND my friend even asked if all meals were on her bill bc she was so late for her train she didn't have time to look, and the desk attendant assured her ALL charges were there. So essentially my husband was charged for a meal from the previous guest who stayed in the same room and they refused to take it off or simply reach out to my friend to add the charge to her bill. It essentially became my husband's problem bc he checked in to the same room... Because we had to run to catch our flight, we could not stay to talk to the front desk manager (who also that morning promised as a 1x courtesy that he would give us the $100 F&B credit even though he said it as one reservation) so the front desk attendant said he would call or email us and he never did. I then tried over a span of 4.5 hours to call him from the airport before we departed and each time he was always busy or in a meeting. THEN when I was already on my flight, I received a short email from the Director of Sales and Marketing saying AGAIN that they would not give us the $100 credit and no mention of the extra charge being taken off or a simple apology for the miscommunication from the front desk staff. I then emailed the Director of Sales and Marketing back as well as cc:ed the General Manager of the hotel to at least have the meal charge mistakenly added to our bill--removed and it has now been 2 days and I have yet to hear back from any management about any of these issues. I find this unacceptable from a 5-star property to not even acknowledge my email especially from the GM of the hotel. Because I work in luxury hotels and am also a travel consultant (and understand how booking a reservation works) I am shocked by the lack of courtesy to help me solve a problem and now my husband and I are stuck with charges that are not ours and a false promise by THREE staff that we would receive the $100 credit due to us. It would be nothing for the GM to offer --at minimum-- to take the extra charge off our bill or at least a phone call or email to discuss— to save losing customers and a bad review and to turn the situation around, but this was no done. In my opinion wether the GM and DOM considered it right or wrong (1 reservation or 2), the $100 credit that was promised by 3 of their staff who fully knew and supposedly understood the situation—should have been honored as a courtesy especially bc The Beekman is considered a 5-star hotel. It was an extremely disappointing experience and therefore I would NOT recommend this property as there are many other 5-star hotels in NYC in the same price range that are much more professional and know how to treat guests. My husband and I chose to stay at The Beekman so we could obtain our marriage license at City Hall, which is just a quick walk away. We also had a photo shoot planned near City Hall, and the hotel’s location was perfect—right in the midst of downtown Manhattan’s iconic landmarks. The hotel itself is breathtaking, with gorgeous rooms, an impressive atrium, and a restaurant at its center. This hotel has such rich history, that they almost should do tours here! The food at the hotel restaurants was delicious, the service excellent, and the décor makes you feel like you’ve stepped back into old New York, where anything magical could happen. We’re already looking forward to returning. Located in the heart of downtown and a 5 minute walk from the Brooklyn Bridge, the hotel is also just a short walk from the Seaport District, another enchanting area filled with great dining options and views of ships in the harbor! That part of Manhattan truly feels special—like stepping into historic New York—and staying at The Beekman made our experience truly unique. Read less
