The hotel

They may call themselves a ‘base camp’, but that’s definitely only in spirit — not in style. Thanks to its location, Banff Aspen Lodge is favoured by those wanting to pitch up and experience all the attractions of this popular ski and spa town, from its snow sports to its famous hot springs. But its style is far from ‘base camp’. Smart and swanky, its rustic-meets-chic décor is matched by a series of extra touches that make an ‘outdoorsy’ holiday uncharacteristically comfortable, like complimentary WiFi, ski and bike storage, the coffee and cake-stocked Whitebark Café, and a steam room and sauna for soothing adventure-weary muscles. You can start your day filling up at the breakfast buffet, with its local bacon and sausages and home-baked treats. And you can end it in an outdoor hot tub with a crackling fireplace.

From the moment we arrived the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Joel, in particular, was brilliant. The hotel is ideally located for the Main Street with all it has to offer. The included breakfast was good and again friendly staff. We had a very spacious room which was clean. Amenities were a bit sparse but not a real issue. Would recommend

It didn’t start well but was quickly resolved. A word of warning, do not stay in one of their standard rooms, they are basically cupboards. It didn’t start well but was quickly resolved. A word of warning, do not stay in one of their standard rooms, they are basically cupboards. The toilet in our first room was also disgusting, something I would expect to see in a youth hostel. We upgraded for our other two nights and the room was so much better. The included breakfast is adequate, that’s all I’ll say. It’s very much like a work canteen and the choices are very limited. If you’re on a budget it is sufficient but personally I’d venture out into Banff if you want something decent to eat. Aspen Lodge is perfectly located, within a short walk to the main town and once we were in a decent room we really enjoyed our stay. There isn’t a bar but there is a coffee shop, so it is nice to sit out on the front terrace with a coffee and a pastry. Overall a good stay and we really enjoyed Banff. Read less

We had a room on the second floor that had a balcony with view towards the mountain which was amazing! they had an excellent daily breakfast and was very conveniently located within Banff town so we could easily walk around. Would definitely stay there again 10/10 experience.
