The hotel

This lovely hotel sits on its own 100-acre peninsula at the southeast point of the island, just a 10-minute drive from Nelson's Dockyard with its historical buildings, museum and bars. There are two beaches, one for non-motorised water sports and the other for enjoying refreshing ocean breezes. The resort boasts five open-aired restaurants and one grill; most fêted of these is Piccolo Mondo, the resort's fine dining Mediterranean style restaurant in the village section, while the attractive waterside Docksider does a great Caribbean buffet each Thursday in alfresco surrounds. For a real treat, Royal Suites feature a king size bed with sunken living room, glass sliding doors to a private balcony and expansive bathrooms with deep soaking tubs and his and hers showers! A boardwalk also takes you from the suites right into the heart of Mamora Bay, perfect for strolling along in the moonlight! If plenty of home-from-home comforts appeal, choose a villa instead of a hotel room at St James's Club. Cheerful and bright, they feature warm Caribbean tones and terracotta tiles throughout. They're also very generous on space so are ideal for families and groups of friends.

Overall it was a pretty good experience. The rooms were very clean and housekeeping was great. The restaurants were ok but appeared to be lacking staff at times and the hours could have been better. Resort staff was excellent with only a few exceptions. There was some disappointment with the beach situation. We were told that both resort beaches were open which turned out to be totally false. The ocean side was unusable due to the seaweed situation that is effecting many places in the Caribbean, but the bay side was perfect. The smell from the seaweed was quite potent at times, but it was tolerable. The grounds are kept nice and there is renovating of rooms going on, but with no interference to the guests. The manager was wonderful and was always around doing something and pitching in to help the staff. If these few shortcomings are corrected it would be an ideal place to go. With the current issues I would give it an 8 out of 10. Read less

Our villa was beautiful, spacious, and had breathtaking views both from the villa and the beach (even with a little seaweed, the scenery was still picture-perfect). The food and drinks were outstanding at every restaurant, and the service from the housekeepers and waiters was beyond exceptional so warm, friendly, and attentive. We loved spending mornings at the coffee place, relaxing in the lounge area, and unwinding by the pool. Every detail made this trip special, and we can’t wait to come back! Read less

The resort is tucked away on a private peninsula with two gorgeous beaches one calm and perfect for paddleboarding, and the other a bit breezier for relaxing with a view. The staff were super friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile or a golf cart ride if needed. There are several pools, and I loved that there were options for both quiet relaxation and family fun. My villa was spacious, clean, and had the most incredible view of the bay. It’s definitely a great spot if you’re looking for a laid-back, all-inclusive Caribbean getaway. Read less

We recently returned from what was supposed to be a relaxing, rejuvenating trip to St. James’s Club in Antigua—a resort we had trusted through Elite Island Resorts. Sadly, the experience was anything but, and we feel compelled to share our frustration and disappointment to warn other travelers, especially returning guests. As long-time repeat customers of Elite Island Resorts, we expected the same level of quality and transparency we’ve previously enjoyed. Instead, we were met with a series of disappointing issues and a startling lack of care from the resort and its parent company. The most frustrating and disheartening part of our stay was the beach situation. Upon arrival, we were informed that the beaches had been completely overtaken by sargassum seaweed—so much so that they were closed. This was never disclosed prior to our arrival, despite this being a long-standing issue. All guests in beachfront rooms (including us) were relocated to the opposite side of the resort, roughly half a mile away from the main amenities. Our "ocean view" room turned out to overlook a service area and razor wire fencing. The issues didn’t stop there: Food: The buffet and restaurant menus were repetitive and underwhelming. Even after paying an additional $40 per person to dine at the "upscale" restaurant, the food was still low quality—though the service there was slightly better. Drinks: Cocktails were roughly 4 oz., and it was nearly impossible to get a refill without waiting an hour or more. Customer Service: Staff seemed disinterested and disengaged—likely a reflection of low morale. Asking for help or service often felt like an inconvenience. Nickel-and-Diming: Hidden fees, extra charges for basic amenities, and no meaningful compensation or apology for the disrupted experience. Management: Their response was dismissive. They refunded only a portion of the hidden fees and the added restaurant charge. They offered an “upgrade” for a future stay—which, frankly, we’ll never take. We won’t be returning. What’s even more telling is that as we were leaving, three other families were checking out early, expressing nearly identical frustrations. The management team appeared well-practiced in dealing with these types of complaints, which raises serious concerns about how often this happens. Ultimately, we cut our losses and moved to a different all-inclusive family resort on the island. While it cost us more to make that switch, it was the best decision we made that week. Elite Island Resorts has lost our trust, which is especially sad given how much we had enjoyed our previous trips. St. James’s Club could have potential, but it feels stuck in the 1980s—run-down, poorly managed, and operated with little regard for guest experience or transparency. Travelers beware: This is not the resort—or the company—you may remember. Read less
