Just arrived home today from our stay at The Soco Hotel. What a little gem of a place to stay. The location is beautiful, right on the sea front. All the rooms have a view of the sea, with a balcony, they are clean and the air conditioning is perfect. You hang a sign on the door, when you leave the room, if you want it serviced, and if you leave the towels on the floor they will be changed. However, we did not do this everyday, just every alternate one. There is a fridge in the room and we used it for all our cold drinks, chocolate, and other goodies. There is a kettle and cups, however, we bought milk and coffee from the market shop along the street, as there is just the usual little milk pots and a few tea bags. The shower was adequate, although not super powerful. I didn’t take my hairdryer, but the one provided was brilliant. There is an iron board and iron in all the rooms. There is a safe, should you wish to use it, but we couldn’t get it to work so didn’t bother with it. The bed was very comfortable and we had no bother sleeping, but we felt that the pillows were not so good, a bit soft and lumpy and would suggest that the Manager replaces them. As the hotel is situated on a main road, there is a bit of traffic noise, and the locals seem to like blasting their car horns at all times during the day and night, which can be as early as 5.30/6am and late into the evening. Take earplugs if you think this will bother you. There is only one dining room, where you can sit inside or out, we mainly sat inside as it was so humid and hot. Breakfast, 7am - 10am, lunch 12 noon til 2pm and evening meal, 6pm til 9pm. You will have to book your time for evening meal when you have breakfast, we always went at 8.30pm as this suited us. They do an afternoon tea, but I can’t comment on that as we never tried it. The meals were really nice, all cooked to order. The menu at breakfast never changes, but there is enough on it,and you can mix it up and have it your way. The staff are all lovely and can’t do enough for you. Trudy often serviced our room and was happy, smiling and fun to be around, she nicknamed my Husband “Mr T”, he obviously reminded her of the actor from the A Team 😂. Lolene, and all the other staff in the dining/bar area were wonderful, Shane and Zachary are attentive bar tenders and play some great music, but never too loud, just perfect.
The pool is small, but ideal for a wee cooling dip and lazy swim. There are only about 12 sun beds, however, there is not much room for many more, but there is a seating area with tables, chairs and sofas. We are very early risers so getting a sun-bed was no problem. You can change your pool towel in reception, at the end of every day. The beach is down a few steps, where you can use the sun-beds there. I would recommend that you take swimming shoes for the beach as parts of it can be quite rocky and the sand, although beautiful, is very fine ground shells. I had a brilliant time snorkelling there.
Michelle’s Rum tasting experience was fun, and she had us all a wee bit tipsy, singing and dancing at the bar. This is on a Wednesday morning about 10.30am.
Overall, a nice little place to stay, and a beautiful location at the end of a long boardwalk, which is lovely to walk. Embrace the laidback vibe of this place, with its gorgeous surroundings and attentive staff.
