Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Star rating

The hotel

Lying on a beautiful, long stretch of private beach, the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa sits within 400 lush acres and is home to an 18th-century sugar plantation. A popular feature here is the iconic swimming pool but guests (kids' especially) also love the Sugar Mill Falls Waterpark, which is the largest in Jamaica. Why not grab a tube and float down the ‘lazy river’ or try one of the slides. There’s also a daily kids' club, leaving you with time to recharge in the full-service spa, or why not try out the Championship golf course. A variety of restaurant options with fine dining and sophisticated wine lists are on-site, with the newly renovated Rum Factory a particular hit, as is the Three Palms, overlooking the beautifully landscaped golf course.

I'll start by saying that we had a very good time and enjoyed the resort. It took a few days for me to feel like I had "figured things out" enough to say that I was fully relaxed. Everyone at the resort was very nice. Our room was on the small side. We had a 2 queen ocean front room. All the pictures show a sitting area, but our room did not have a chair or couch, and none of the rooms I peeked into while cleaning seemed to have one either. So, for a family of four (including 2 teen boys), it felt pretty cramped. If I were to do it again, I'd either look for a larger room (not sure if they have one at this resort), or save and get adjoining rooms. We traveled mid-week, so had no one in the room adjoining ours. The night they did show up we could hear them very clearly through the door. They were not being loud, but those adjoining doors are very thin. The ice machines on our floor were not working. But there was an ice machine on the main lobby floor (floor 2) that was working and had perfect size ice to refill my insulated mug so I could have cold water. The resort is loud - the activity level is constant with constant music. I happily went to the pool area at 8am so I could 1. get a lounge in the shade and 2. actually hear the ocean. the music is on, either at poolside or for evening entertainment from 10am until probably 11pm. The most relaxing and peaceful time is from the point where you wake up until 10am when the music starts. That took some getting used to. All the water stands had fruit-infused water, which I don't particularly like. But you can ask for bottle water and a cup of ice (or bring your own insulated mug and fill it with ice when you can). My kids liked the energy level, and there were plenty of activities at the resort and poolside to keep us all entertained. My husband and I preferred reading and being in the pool. My kids participated in more activities. My husband did the daily fitness power walk with the resort staff and said he would recommend it. Rooms were clean and housekeeping was very attentive to detail and the towel animals that were left were nice little surprises every day. Bring enough small bills (US dollars for us) to tip as you go - the tips are very welcomed. We found the buffet adequate, but if you want variety you need to either eat early (show up when the sit down restaurants open) or eat late when the crowd has diminished. Portion sizes at the sit down restaurants are small, and food was okay. The Jerk Hut and Mangoes were our favorite for daytime eating but were not open for dinner. The buffet probably has the most vegetarian options because there were many Indian options each day. Read less

From the waiters/waitresses to the entertainment staff, everyone makes sure you are taken care of and having a good time. Special shout out to Keisha who waited on us poolside and at Mangoes this week. She is truly a gem. She was super attentive and took great care of our large group of 12 with ease. We can’t thank her enough for being great with everyone including the kiddos and bringing us special treats. Nathan also took care of us one of the days this trip and several times previously. Not sure if he remembers us, but we always remember him for his smile and quick service. The lazy river and entertainment staff there, Aquacise with O’Neil, and every staff member who has helped us was the best parts of our stay. By the end of our trip everyone knew us as Big Papa and family. We thank everyone at Hilton for giving us another memorable family trip. Read less

Hidden fees for kids. Clearly noted our kids ages when we booked and then they charged more when we got there. Had no choice but to pay it and then fight with corporate later for a refund. Poor bathroom ventilation in rooms. Corn-hole boards were broken. All yard game activities direct in the sun, could hardly stand to use them. Housekeeping rarely shows up, or not until right before dinner time. Some of the worst restaurants we’ve experienced at an all-inclusive. Read less

During our stay at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa, we had the pleasure of dining at the MoonStone Restaurant—and what truly made the evening special was our amazing server, Janell. From the moment we were seated, Janell greeted us with the warmest smile and made us feel genuinely welcome. Her energy was so positive, and you could tell she genuinely enjoys what she does. She was incredibly attentive without being overbearing, and she anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. She made excellent recommendations from the menu, checked in at just the right moments, and her friendly conversation added such a lovely personal touch to our evening. It’s rare to come across someone so professional, personable, and kind all at once. Janell truly elevated our dining experience and made it a highlight of our trip. If you’re visiting MoonStone, ask for Janell—you’ll be in the best hands! Thank you, Janell, for your exceptional service and for making our night so memorable. We’ll be back! Read less

The safes are placed too high and this makes it difficult to see the contents when if they are accidentally pushed to the back of the safe.I have tried to call, sent emails, intragram calls and instagram DM. No response to date. Can someone reach out to me. I feel I need to contact Carl Ainscough managing director to see if this query can be resolved. Read less
