Image of the Tripadvisor rating 8/10 - Not a "beach trip"

Do not go here if you want a "beach" trip...it's a "pool" trip. Do not go here if you want a "beach" trip...it's a "pool" trip. Good: - Stunning beautiful aesthetics/architecture throughout - Very friendly staff (shout out to Geena in the Circle @ breakfast) - Gorgeous Pools (different varieties of pools) - Well maintained grounds - Bungalow option by the pool is a very nice touch (not cheap but very nice to have your own cool space on a hot day just steps from the pool) - Food on site was very good quality - Complimentary waters everywhere/reverse osmosis tap in the room Bad: 1) The beach area. Is a MESS. One picture attached, reasons below: a) There's ongoing construction in the water that totally ruins the beach view. b) They do nothing to attempt to keep the sand nice anywhere along the waterfront. They do not rake the seaweed at all, I've stayed at many places that were much less expensive and they rake the seaweed. Which also makes the water pretty brown/murky. There's a million workers around, someone could grab some rakes/nets and do something, but ya never see it happening, day after day. c) the Beach is uneven as hell and clearly never groomed, dont even attempt to try and take a "stroll on the beach", its like lumpy minefield. d) I realize the water is probably rough and hence why there are so many boulders there to help with beach erosion, but swimming in large waves next to boulders is dangerous. 2) I know it's an expensive place, but 22 bucks for kids hot dogs at lunch/ 36 dollars for a grilled cheese. Absurd. 3) It's a brutal walk from the pools/beach back to your room if youre staying near the lobby. And the ongoing construction makes that walk even further (with many areas closed off). 4) They tout that there's a "free chauffeur car available" but it only takes you places ON the island. The shuttle bus wont take you off the island either. The island is only a few blocks wide with not much in the form of restaurants/entertainment, so youre basically stuck calling a car/ubering everywhere, so theres a nonstop line of uber vehicles at the main lobby that queues up pretty good. 5) The rooms are small, outdated and nowhere near sound proof, you could hear conversations through the walls. The term "suite" here is essentially false advertising, there are no separate rooms, you basically get a couple small DOUBLE beds & a pullout couch. Who wants to go a "luxury" type resort and sleep on double beds two feet away from eachother? 6) they claim they have all these water activities, you never see anyone doing them 7) the gym - very small with limited equipment for a place of this size/cost. Was not a busy week and we were still battling for machines the entire time. Read less

I dined at the breakers for their famous Sunday brunch and was thoroughly impressed. The environment was opulent and the service was very attentive. The buffet was incredible and my favourite part was the caviar and all you can drink champagne. Come hungry and thirsty!

**Buyer Beware. Would not recommend a trip to the Breakers anytime soon due to all the reasons below. Planned a 3 night girls’ trip for 3 of my friends and we had originally booked at the Four Seasons but I had us change to The Breakers last minute because I felt it would be a better stay; I could not regret that decision more!! Currently in the middle of a dispute with their billing team because of incorrect credit card charges. The cherry on top of this disastrous trip was their customer service rep using profanity on the phone with my friend today when she called for info on the charges. We were also promised a credit that we have yet to receive. To say the Breakers has gone downhill is putting it lightly. Incredibly disappointing. - The Construction was very underplayed - it’s in the main lobby (where the courtyard sits), at the main pool (Beach Bar restaurant) and at the beach. When you’re sitting at the pool you hear sledge hammering and there’s huge crane where they’re dredging the seawall and it’s loud! (Also, no food service at the pool). -The water was turned off at 11 pm one of the nights we stayed (off from 11p-5am). We were alerted to it by a note under our door that day. The next morning for at least 30 minutes, the water was brown coming out of the faucet. It stayed completely cloudy the next 2 days of our stay. Was like that when we left. Breakers staff was made aware and did not care. I have pictures/video. -The lobby area smells moldy; probably due to construction throughout. It’s very dark and dusty. - Incredibly poor service at all restaurants/bars. The Staff were continually rude and behaved like even the ask for a simple water refill was them doing us a huge favor. Eye rolls and snippy responses were the norm. This is so disappointing because The Breakers used to be the epitome of high quality customer service. - The cleaning team broke my friend’s phone charger and moved all our stuff (clothes, suitcases) around one night while we were out. They put my wet bathing suit into my suitcase and closed it; very odd. - My friend and I went to the gym at 8am for a Pilates class that was on the website, digital marquis, and paper schedule only to be told that the Pilates instructor is out on leave (had been for over a week) and they forgot to update the schedule. We were told we could “go jump into that class outside, but not sure what it is!” by one of the helpful gym attendants. Again, just highlighting the lackluster customer service. All in all, very disappointing stay. I understand these are minute inconveniences in comparison to the overall state of the world, but when you pay for a specific brand of service experience you expect (and should receive) a high quality experience in return. I feel awful having planned this trip for my friends. People work hard for their discretionary income and stepping away from the office is difficult; I would highly suggest spending your money and valued time elsewhere. Read less

My family of three stayed here during the annual NSSGA meeting. We arrived early and our room was not ready. We had lunch at one of the restaurants. Beautiful area. The many pools, landscaping, and service was top notch. After we had our lunch, it was getting to the point where we needed to get our belongings to get dressed for our conference. We had to go to bellhop service and ask for our things to be brought up. That is the only hiccup we had. Service was impeccable. The rooms were spacious and the closet and bath were huge. Did I mention the TV in the mirror of the bathroom! My son enjoyed the work out area, again huge. You could climb the steps or take the elevator. Awesome view at the top. They were putting more boulders in the ocean, so equipment was working, but didn't bother us. At night the tree along the drive are lit and so is the massive fountain. We have traveled to all fifty states, and never experienced a resort as grand as The Breakers. Loved it so much. Would definitely go back. Read less
