The Shay is an almost nice hotel. I'll start with the Positives: great globalist recognition, great management, great breakfast, great dinner options at Zaytinya, great location (close to Beverly Hills and Santa Monica), and the upstairs pool area is quite nice. Now for the Negatives: this is quite literally the LOUDEST hotel I have ever had the displeasure of visiting. We were in the premium suite and kept hearing our upstairs neighbors amplified footsteps (literally sounded like elephants were going to come crashing through the ceiling) and that's because the hotel was built with no noise isolation between the ceilings or the walls. Literally hearing BOOM BOOM BOOM above you when you're trying to sleep which is crazy. I could also hear people in the room next to me talking through the walls. Beyond the room noise that stems from poor building quality, the hotel is situated by both a busy, intersection and a train that runs regularly--both of these things would be fine if the hotel had good windows but unfortunately the hotel windows are also thin and allow so much noise in. Management was great in that they did offer a room change so I will acknowledge that. All of this made for a lack of restful sleep which ultimately impacted my whole view of the hotel. If you can't sleep well, you whole day can be ruined. Read less

I can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay at The Shay Hotel in Culver City. I was in town for business, and my family came along to enjoy the trip, and from the moment we arrived, we were treated like family. Carmel and the entire staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, comfortable, and truly cared for. Their attention to detail, warm hospitality, and thoughtful accommodations made all the difference. Whether it was helping us settle into our upgraded suite or offering local tips and treats for the kids, every interaction was marked by kindness and professionalism. The patio is a slice of heaven in a fast pace environment. I've stayed here twice. I love the shower water pressure. The rooftop bar has good drinks, guacamole, and shrimp cerveche. The barista at the lobby bar makes a good latte. The staff are kind and helpful.

The rooms are spacious, stylish, and well-equipped, with thoughtful details like a daily Nespresso refill and great showers. Dining options are a big plus. Both Zaytinya and Butterfly offer great food, and the rooftop pool area is lovely. The lobby bar is a nice spot to relax, complete with a pool table and games. There’s also a very practical event space on the second floor with outdoor terraces that add a great touch. Service is generally warm, though a few staff members can come across as less welcoming. One consistent issue is the pushy room upgrade pitch during check-in—something I’ve experienced repeatedly and found a bit much. During my most recent stay, housekeeping skipped my room entirely one day (they claimed they came by at 7:50 a.m.—which, frankly, is too early). Also, the $5 fee for receiving packages feels excessive for a hotel at this price point, and their “late-night” in-room dining options are underwhelming, served in cardboard boxes with disposable utensils. Lastly, while the soundproofing is generally solid, rooms near the elevated Metro can get noisy. It’s something to be aware of when booking. Still, it’s a great hotel with a lot to love. A bit more focus on guest-friendly details would take it from good to great. Read less
