Had a great stay recently at the Doubletree as part of a birthday celebration for my wife! Initially we were worried about the lower than average reviews on here but ultimately, it's our stay which mattered, and it was fantastic!
We arrived from the UK around 2pm and were checked in early, without question, by the AMAZING Dominique (sorry if I got the spelling wrong!), who made the mundane job of checking in super fun with her quick wit and her personality! She noted my wife's birthday, disappeared for a moment and returned to supply us with some very tasty sweet treats! An excellent, personalised experience which set us off on the correct footing for the rest of our brief stay! Also noting my Hilton Gold status, she also gave us an opportunity to win something, wheel of fortune style! Very fun, very memorable, what an absolute asset to the brand Dom is! She then loaded us up with bottles of water and the ridiculously addictive Doubletree Cookies and were sent off to Room 3111, 31st Floor.
The room itself is small, however very well presented and importantly.. Spotlessly clean! We were greeted by yet more birthday treats for my wife and lovely personalised birthday card! Very thoughtful, and the wife was super appreciative! The bathroom was equipped with all the essentials you could ever ask for, the shower was powerful and hot, although it took forever to drain.. The bed was super comfortable and the A/C worked, albeit loud and not very effective, but hey, it worked. The TV in the room was smart and had lots of connectivity. Excellent soundproofing too!
The staff were generally excellent throughout, however the one problem we did have was with the rooftop bar. There was one particular waiter, Allesandro I believe, who was completely disinterested in his job and spent 90% of his time speaking to his friends or on his phone. He effectively ruined the bar experience for us, that we stopped using it after 2 nights. Be warned, the bar automatically adds a 20% service charge on top of your bill. When we queried this and complained about the lack of service, he just shrugged his shoulders and said everyone has to pay it... We didn't let this ruin the stay for us, but I do begrudge paying a lot of money for something I didn't receive. In saying this, I'm not sure if the bar is an "in house" establishment or an outside company.
Location wise it's perfect for buses and the subway, which is great, because Manhattan is pretty much a huge car park at the best of times! But lots of amenities nearby and only 10 minutes walk from Times Square.
In short, we loved our stay, we would be more than happy to recommend and definitely return!
