I’m a loyal Hilton member. I have seen it all. At this location, no one has a good handle of room conditions and available inventory. Front desk chaos compounded with broken elevators made the stay very unpleasant. We checked in via the Hilton app. Selected a specific room. Upon arrival the specific room was unavailable. Front desk offered another room but it was below the rate and amenities we reserved (and paid). Manager ultimately finds a room that met our rate criteria. We check in to a broken AC. Called front desk. Was told they were “dispatching technician right away”. Left to enjoy the city. Came back to warm and humid room. Unclear if anyone showed up to check unit. Called again to report the issue. Technician shows up says“it’s fixed”. I asked if he was confident we didn’t need to change rooms. We would understand. He said - no, that it was a setting issue and it was good to go. We left for dinner plans. Arrived at 11:30pm to warm and humid room. Called front desk — again. Person who answered was unaware of our multiple calls re. AC issues. They sent another technician. He looked more carefully and said “you’ll need to change rooms”. The second room was neither cool, nor hot — but at least it wasn’t humid. Went to sleep around 1:00 am. Not ideal for a kid. The ordeal was very inconvenient but most of all frustrating. The lack of communication between staff and techs was evident. The right thing would’ve been to explain their inventory problem, check us in to a lower rate room and adjust the rate/comp a night. We would’ve understood. Don’t put the guest through hassle. It was clear the AC was broken. No one should’ve been checked into that room. Read less

Great location with the typical small sized New York hotel rooms. Elevators are slow but the longest we had to wait was 5 minutes. House keeping came daily and staff were friendly. TLDR: I would never book again, too many hassles and the beds were low quality. The staff were pleasant and as helpful as could be, but the paper cuts do add up. TLDR: I would never book again, too many hassles and the beds were low quality. The staff were pleasant and as helpful as could be, but the paper cuts do add up. I added a star back because I left my laptop behind in the room and the housekeeper found it and set it aside for me. The people working there were lovely, but the problem extended past them. I'll jump straight into the meat. There were a couple of inexcusable hassles. The first was parking. The location advertises having parking access. The lot they directed us to wouldn't allow us to park, even after we prepaid for it. The general manager of the hotel had to walk over with me and another guest (who had the exact same problem) before the lot would allow us to park. That means repeat circling 54th to broadway to 53rd to 8th and back around a few times. The second hassle would have made me never book again simply for it. The elevators were terrible. The middle elevator was out of service the entire time, leaving two elevators. The staff frequently would take over one of the elevators. On top of that because literally every guest was complaining, the staff would override the call buttons and send the elevators to whomever complained the loudest. Without exaggeration it took about 20 minutes to get up to the 11th floor (we elected to take the stairs down every time, along with numerous other guests) The bedding material was lower quality foam and the pillows had no support whatsoever. The bar was under construction as well. The outlets in the room are so worn they barely hold a plug. Again, the staff tried their best and were apologetic and sympathetic, but there was no helping it. Definitely not anywhere close to worth $300 a night for that building. Read less

Our stay went well, overall. The room was right across from the elevator on the 10th floor. I assumed that we'd hear a lot of noise in the hallway, but it was not the case. The room itself was clean, comfortable and quiet. Very nice quality toiletries were provided and there was plenty of hot water. We also appreciated having the mini fridge. On to the elephant in the hotel: the elevators. I had read reviews prior to our stay that there are only two working elevators for 30+ floors of guest rooms, and that is correct. For that reason, I requested a room from floors 5 to 10, in the event that if we had to, we could take the stairs. (We actually did a few times.). During the 3 days/nights we were there, we got lucky a few times and didn't have to wait at all. But on at least 3 occasions, we waited up to 15 minutes. To say the least, it's annoying and a disservice to the guests. I talked it over with my partner, and we don't blame the staff - it's out of their hands. It's an old NYC building, and to put in another elevator or to enlarge the existing ones is next to impossible. I would task the upper management with this: knowing that you only have two working elevators and 350+ guest rooms, what is a good solution to this problem? Having the middle (service) elevators for strollers, wheelchairs and large pieces of luggage only? I don't know. But it is a problem that is not going away. Also: In the lobby, I was approached by a Hilton staff member about opening a Hilton membership account and pitched a future trip/timeshare type of scheme to sign up for. No, thank you. We had a reasonably good stay, loved the location, and will leave it at that. P.S: The jellybeans in the lobby in the evening were a nice touch for my candy-loving partner. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Good location, but fix the elevators!

If the elevators were working, I'd give it 4 stars. All of the staff I encountered (front desk, maid, skycap, engineer (to fix my thermostat) were great - courteous, friendly, professional. Location was perfect. But having to constantly allot time to wait for an elevator or take the stairs (thankfully only on the 4th floor) was very annoying. One of 3 elevators was out of order, and another wasn't always working. On a repeat trip to NYC, I would call first to see if they've rectified the situation. If not, I would book somewhere else.
