I understand that its designed as a more of a party hotel...the bars..and rooftop area attract a lot of partiers... but the hotel keeps everyone respectable... and they did let the kids swim from about the time we arrived at 4 pm till 7 pm when the parties was getting started. The menu was a bit mature for my 2 girls so we just Doordashed.... the hotel staff brought everything to our rooms which required like 3 separate trips (Angel) his even went.to het my bucket of ice... outstanding staff service. The hotel was fabulous. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The staff greeted you when you came in the hotel and when you leave. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The hotel was conveniently located. I would stay here again.

We booked a package deal to this hotel through Virgin Holidays - the hotel deal included free resort fees, a complimentary upgraded room and $150 food and beverage credit. We had emailed the hotel in advance to advise it was our 10 year anniversary. Upon arrival, after using the Virgin ‘Lucy’ app to check in (as advised on our email) we were given a room on the 21st floor. It appeared to be an accessible room as the full bathroom was a full wet room, fine but was not required for us. Don’t think we actually got any upgrade as we didn’t even have an Empire State view. Only one dressing gown was in the room, no slippers, lack of towels and only two hangers provided. Free water and ice on each floor but no carafe or anything provided other than two small glasses (what’s the point in the free water with nothing to put it in?) we used the Lucy app to request housekeeping and extra hangers on our first day and returned back to our room at 6pm with nothing done. Ended up having to phone to request, the app is possibly the worst hotel app I’ve ever used as it was constantly signing me out and took an eternity to log back in we eventually gave up with it. On our first day we noticed our credit card had a large amount pending to be taken from the hotel, we queried this and were advised (with attitude!) we shouldn’t have used the app to check in as we had already pre-paid our stay through Virgin Holidays (maybe don’t email and advise guests to check in through the app…!) we are now home and the charge has yet to ‘fall off’ after 5 days. We attempted to use the Riff Raff bar one night to grab a drink before heading out to a dinner reservation to be told it was a $50 or two drink minimum EACH spend to sit at a table - totally get minimum drink allowances for NYC bars are a thing but when the bar is half empty and you are a hotel guest I think this is absolutely ridiculous. Same goes for sitting on the terrace in Everdene after 5/6pm - you can sit at the bar for a drink but otherwise they would rather their terrace remains empty than allow a hotel guest to sit on it and have one drink. If the service provided was more accommodating to hotel guests you would probably end up staying for a couple of drinks anyway but the attitude given is an immediate put off. We didn’t use the pool but had a wee nosy at it on our last day - it’s a lot smaller than it looks in the pics and was absolutely packed however we did come during the heatwave! Location is ideal but probably wouldn’t return for the above reasons, think the staff need to work on their customer service a bit more Read less

I’ve stayed at Virgin Hotels NYC several times, and I used to really enjoy it, but my most recent visit was a total disappointment. I arrived at 9pm and was told my room wasn’t ready yet. I waited another 30 minutes for them to “check” it. When I finally got in, the air conditioning was on, but not functioning. The room was stiflingly hot during a major NYC heatwave, and I barely slept. They gave me a $100 food credit to apologize for the check-in inconvenience. I used the in-room TV to order dinner, and was told it would take 30–45 minutes to get to me. After an hour, nothing had arrived. I called, and they said the order never went through. The food was rushed as the kitchen was a bout to close, and it came cold and disappointing. The next morning, I requested maintenance for the AC and was told someone would fix it while I was out. When I got back at 9pm, it was still just as hot. No updates, no communication from them, just a promise from the front desk that 'it had been handled'. I called again and had to push to get someone sent up asap. The engineer told me he would not be able to fi it that evening. Even then, the staff did not offer to move rooms, provide a fan, or issue a refund for the night. This used to be a reliable hotel — not anymore. I won’t be staying here again. Read less

We’re just back from a week staying in this hotel and we can’t fault it in any way. The hotel knew this was for a special birthday and had banners, confetti and a birthday card for my partner laid out in the room for our arrival. My parents had ordered a cake from a local bakery which was delivered to the room exactly when requested. All prior contact with the hotel (Christopher Vega) was flawless and they couldn’t have been more helpful. We didn’t get a chance to visit the pool but knew the policies because let’s face it, you read up before you book! We loved the elevators and how secure this made the hotel. Using your keycard to unlock the floor your rooms on is a great idea. Also minimizes unwanted guests from freely roaming the hotel. We visited the Riff Raff Club one night before going out which was lovely. Yes, a wine and a coke cost $40 but you have to remember where you are! We had a drink in the Everdene on our last day and sat out on the terrace while waiting for our taxi which was very relaxing. We had gone for an Empire State view and as part of my profile had requested a high floor. Wow, what a view and we were allocated the 36th floor! Again, just another example of how the hotel listened and tried to accommodated your requests. I didn’t really use the Lucy APP while in the hotel but this let us pre check in the day before and also let you give an estimated check in time for the day of arrival. More people should try this to avoid disappointment when arriving. Think on how many rooms they have to get ready while guessing when everyone will arrive. They knew we would get there about 5pm and the room was ready and perfectly presented. It was fresh bedding and towels daily which gave the hotel more work but greatly appreciated. Check out was a very reasonable 12:00 and our luggage was taken from us and securely stored while we made use of the last couple of hours. We were reminded that although we had checked out there were still floors we could access to remain comfortable while waiting for our taxi which the hotel arranged. No extra fee, offered a yellow taxi or a black suv and both had great prices. I misunderstood and for all the difference regretted not taking the black suv to end the holiday in style. I’ll remember for next time! From our experience and last comment there we will return to this hotel. Thank you again for a great experience and memorable holiday. Read less
