Fairmont San Francisco embodies the grandeur of this historic city. It effortlessly combines impeccable service with luxurious rooms and top-notch facilities. As it’s set high atop Nob Hill, you’ll enjoy great city views and can practically hop on the cable cars from outside the hotel. When it comes to eating, you’ll find some delicious local food at the hotel’s three restaurants. Why not treat yourself to traditional afternoon tea at the weekend or visit The Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar for, apparently, the best Mai Tai in the city.

Fairmont Falls Short

Fairmont falls short.
Beautiful historic building, exceptional lobby, and the beds are very comfortable.
With the good points out of the way, let’s move to the areas requiring significant improvement. Rusty shower pole and stained curtain?, mouldy sealant around the bathtub?, an air conditioning unit that could be heard from fisherman’s…

With the good points out of the way, let’s move to the areas requiring significant improvement. Rusty shower pole and stained curtain?, mouldy sealant around the bathtub?, an air conditioning unit that could be heard from fisherman’s wharf?….does this sound like the level of luxury the Fairmont brand is known for?. I think not.
Valet parking only, text to attain your vehicle…or don’t bother, as the text service does not work, and your car won’t be available when you arrive at the door 15 minutes later…Wonderful service at $90 per night + tax ($112PN inclusive). Keep your eye out too, they may charge you extra for an “oversized vehicle” , though they won’t tell you this at check in, or at the valets station!.
The front of house staff were very obviously disinterested in customer feedback, so sometimes the only option is to leave a review.

Historical charm

I had a king, city view room in the original hotel. I really like that so much of the history remains and it hasn’t been renovated to death.
The room was very clean, comfortable and the bedding was top notch. Everything was really well maintained.
Lelabo bath products are a nice touch.
Yes the bathroom has a combination tub/shower - don’t…

Nice hotel on top of the hill

Overall a very good experience. Doormen were friendly, front desk staff not super friendly but quick. At checkin you’re given decent quality reusable water bottles with the hotel logo on them, so a nice touch. Gold Accor status gave us a room upgrade to City view room. Overall a very good experience. Doormen were friendly, front desk staff not super friendly but quick. At checkin you’re given decent quality reusable water bottles with the hotel logo on them, so a nice touch. Gold Accor status gave us a room upgrade to City view room. The room was in the newer tower, but located next to the elevator, which you could hear frequently. Hotel was ‘sold out’ so no other room to move too. Room was nice but nothing special.
The hotel lobby is the showpiece of the hotel and feels very grand; I’ve stay at a number of Fairmont and this is one of the nicest lobbies to sit in; and common areas have lots of history on the walls. The main restaurant’s lounge was good, live music; wait stay was friendly and food and drinks good. The Tiki bar The Tonga Room was fun for some expensive signature drinks and the band and rainfall from the ceiling experience.
Voucher provided for coffee shop wasn’t very useful as it had strange hours and never seemed to be open.
I’d stay again based on experience however, given the location and needing to Uber uphill, might consider staying down in the Union Square area.
