The hotel

The Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives takes its name from the Maldivian word for crystal white sand, and it isn’t difficult to see why. Dhonveli is situated on a private island, surrounded by the sparkling turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. A secluded tropical paradise, the resort combines authentic Maldivian design and décor with modern comforts, facilities and amenities, to offer guests the ultimate Maldivian holiday experience. Why not treat yourself to a stay in an Over Water Suite — resting over the shallow waters surrounding the island, they offer privacy and seclusion. They have a spacious bedroom and a living area with glass panel to watch the marine life below, whilst outside a private sun deck has steps directly down into the water.

We are a Portuguese couple living in the UK. We decided to go to the Cinnamon Dhonveli for our honeymoon and it was the best decision we’ve ever made. We were there for 2 weeks in one of the overwater villas, highly recommend to stay at one of the overwater villages so you can have the best experience ever. Since sleeping with doors open listening to the ocean to watching all the sea life at night. We have never felt that we were bored not a single moment, there is plenty activities to do from the amazing snorkeling with fantastic reefs to the aquatic sports and all other sports like football, tennis, ping pong. The night entertainment was great as well. No matter what kind of holiday you’re looking for you will certainly have what you need there. I would also like to give a word of appreciation to the brilliant staff at Cinnamon Dhonveli. Never seen anything like it. The staff would do anything they could and more to make your holiday unforgettable. They’re all brilliant from the moment we’ve arrived since the staff at the reception to the cleaners that never left our room unattended. They’ve came every single day to clean our room exceptionally. Would like to give a massive thank you as well to the staff that we have dealt mostly as well at the restaurant and bar we won’t forget you. Thank you so much for making we feel welcome and at home the all time. We appreciate you and all you have done for us during our stay. Where to start? This was our second time in the Maldives and second time at a Cinnamom Resort having stayed at Cinnamon Velifushi previously. We were excited to head to Cinnamon Dhonveli to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Once again Cinnamon delivered on excellent service while we were in paradise. The Pros We stayed in a Beach bungalow suite which for us was the perfect set up having its own beach chairs and being steps away from the lagoon side of the island. Made it so that we were stress free! We also went with the all inclusive package which is a little different than some other locations as they have timings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with snacks at a couple locations in between meals. The drinks that were included were good enough for us but if you want they also have a premium option for additional selections. The value of the package is worth it for our goals. While the whole staff at Dhonveli was amazing, wanted to highlight below several folks that made our stay extra special! Khair, one of the chefs always greeted us in the morning and made conversation while taking our food requests. He always gave us fists bumps and even said hello when he was on his break! Leem, our table's server was working his tail off but it was something as simple as remembering our coffee order in the morning and having it ready as we walked up that made him stand out. Bhagya was always ready and attentive to the guests at the table and constantly checking to make sure everything was all good. Keshala with her amazing laugh was a highlight for my wife and made custom salads everyday that my wife fell in love with! Biplob was the housekeeper for the villa we stayed in (Vila 603) kept everything clean and tidy on a daily basis and was very respectful while cleaning. Ren was our island host and stayed very attentive to our needs. For instance we weren't initially planning on stating it was our anniversary, but when Ren found out she made it extra special providing cake at dinner and bubbly to the villa. Thank you so much for taking care of us! We went on the turtle snorkeling tour and wanted to highlight also Dipak. He was an amazing guide and was able to free dive with my camera and get some amazing shots. We also saw Dipak around the island and he gave us some amazing recommendations for future camera gear. We both did get a treatment at the spa. I did a 90 minute massage and my wife did a 40 minute massage/40 minute facial. Both were amazing and do recommend for the ultimate relaxation while you are there. The Cons Our arrival to Male was a bit confusing as there was a newer terminal since our last visit. The staff at the airport was not as attentive as last time. We had to find them after waiting at the booth for about 10 minutes. Would recommend just going around and checking on the guests. Just felt a little unfriendly. While only 25 minutes, that boat ride is rough. Maybe a bit of a warning to guests about how rough it could be. The boat is constantly jumping in and out of the water and several folks on our ride to the resort started screaming for the drivers to slow down a bit. One observation/possible recommendation While there were plenty of beach chairs, it seems that there were quite a few missing cushions and honestly not enough chairs for the amount of guests. Don't get me wrong I know we are going during peak season, just seems like there could be additional chairs ready to go for the surge time. Wasnt necessarily an issue for us, just an observation. If you are not staying at the beach villa, please keep in mind that guests were waking up early to put towels on the beach chairs. Overall had one of the best and relaxing times we could have while on vacation. The staff, the service, the food, and the snorkeling were all amazing and I do recommend checking out Cinnamon Dhonveli. Read less

The food was great. Lots of variety...we loved the different curries each day. The 3 bars are also so nice to chill and watch the sunset or sit by the beach or listen to live music in the evenings. But what made our holiday so special was the staff on the island. From the moment you step off the boat to when you leave to come home you can feel the genuine warmth from every member of the island team. Special praise to our fantastic waiter who served us all week with such a friendly welcoming manner. We loved hearing about his home island and his interest in our daily activities. We hope to return one day but if we don't it will still be a forever holiday memory for us. 10 out of 10 from us. Read less

We’ve just returned from our best holiday ever at Cinnamon Dhonveli. We booked with Virgin for a week on a virgin inclusive package, which is being phased out but is the same as premium inclusive, so no restrictions on choice of drinks and a full mini bar topped up daily. We also had included a seafood/steak dinner to our table which was delicious, and a dolphin excursion at sunset. Unfortunately we didn’t see any dolphins but that’s just the luck of the draw. We stayed in an overwater suite (716) which was beautifully decorated and spacious. We loved everything about the suite and would spend our mornings on the decking listening to the sea and enjoying the sun until it moved behind us around 1pm. I would absolutely recommend upgrading to a suite, it’s worth every penny. The only surprise we had was a partial view onto another island with concrete posts in the sea to get to that island. I did a lot of research before booking our holiday and never saw this view in any photos. It didn’t spoil our holiday in any way but if you’re expecting endless views of the sea then just be aware it may not be the case, depending on your room. The water below our suite was clear and calm but did become deeper with a stronger current as the day progressed. We saw some amazing sea life in the waters so don’t forget your snorkel and sea shoes. The local grey Heron is also a delight, appearing regularly at the restaurant but also made a special appearance on our decking one morning. The island is beautiful, the colour of the waters and the sand is breathtaking. We absolutely loved the beach, you really do feel like you’re in paradise. The only downside to the beach is that people reserve beds from before breakfast, which we weren’t expecting in the Maldives, but because we only went to the beach in the afternoon, we were usually able to find sun loungers. It’s a small island and we managed to walk around it in about 20 minutes and it’s interesting to see the different parts of the island, there’s something for everyone here. Our meals were taken in the Rehendi restaurant which was amazing. The food was beautifully presented with a huge selection to choose from. All of the staff here were fabulous and attentive. Special shout out to Khair who made the best poached eggs, samosas and delicious pasta dishes, to our efficient drinks waiter, Latheef, for remembering our drink choices and keeping them topped up, to Keshala for her infectious smile and laugh and her delicious salads, smoothies and selection of fruit, to Monoj for always being attentive and ensuring everything was okay for us, to the fabulous Bhagya for her perfect hosting skills and ensuring we were happy at every mealtime. We had a lovely surprise for both mine and my husband’s birthday, on the same day! Our cleaner made a beautiful display on our bed and we received a birthday cake each in the restaurant with the staff singing to us. Such a lovely touch. All of the staff at Cinnamon Dhonveli work really hard and go the extra mile and will always greet you with a welcoming smile It really is a special place that has captured our hearts. Thank you for our holiday of a lifetime, we hope to see you again soon. Read less
