We stayed at Dreams Aventuras for 14 days for our honeymoon. We had also stayed here about five years ago, and unfortunately, the resort has changed quite a bit since then. Our initial room was disappointing. There was drywall/construction dust and debris, the mirrors were caked with residue, and the bed did not seem properly cleaned. To the resort’s credit, when we brought these issues up, they moved us to another room, which was a big improvement. However, the A/C still struggled to keep the room cool, several elevators were not working, ice machines were broken, and our refrigerator restocking was never changed to Preferred Club status as we were told it would be. The biggest difference from our previous visit was the overall atmosphere of the resort. Five years ago, the adult and family/kids areas seemed much better separated. This time, the pool and bar areas were frequently overtaken by kids, and age restrictions around the bar did not seem to be enforced. There also seemed to be a very large amount of local/day-pass traffic. At times, it felt less like an international vacation resort and more like a local weekend destination—almost like someone from Ohio going to Kalahari rather than traveling to Mexico for a getaway. It often felt like the resort was hesitant to enforce rules or address behavior involving local guests, even when it negatively affected the experience of tourists staying at the resort. The restaurants were hit or miss. Portofino was very disappointing, while the buffet was good and the service there was excellent. I do want to specifically recognize Pedro, who genuinely made our stay. His service and attitude were amazing, and he went above and beyond throughout our trip. The staff overall were very friendly, check-in was great, and whenever we directly brought an issue to someone, they did their best to address our needs. Overall, the trip was okay, but for a 14-day honeymoon and based on the experience we had at Dreams Aventuras five years ago, we expected more. The service from individual employees was one of the strongest parts of our stay, but the condition of the property, maintenance issues, lack of enforcement around the pool/bar areas, and change in the overall resort atmosphere made it feel much less like the relaxing Mexican getaway we remembered. I’m here right now and can’t wait to leave. Upon arrival, there was no greeting from any staff member. We had to look around for where to go and who to speak with. We made our way to the check in counter with ONE person working. Where is this “great customer service” that’s I’ve been hearing so much about? Our room wasn’t ready so we headed down to the buffet for some lunch. The table was dirty, the place mat had stains on it. I’m not picky, but I’m sure that fried plantains are not supposed to be dry. Also, the gentleman making tacos needs to spread it up and cook more than two at a time. There’s only two meet choices so take 2 orders at once. We finally get a room assigned. We’re unpacking and I hear water dripping. It’s coming from the closet. We called the front desk, a maintenance person arrived, looked at it and left without one word as to what we’re supposed to do. Are we changing rooms? Are we supposed to deal with water running down the walls? Who knows - because there’s no communication. We were also told there were no kids on our side of the floor. Lies. Kids screaming and crying up and down the hall. Speaking of kids, why are they permitted in the BAR?! I’m sure I’ll have another update. You know, since I’ve only been on the property for 2 1/2 hours. Read less

Our first impression of Dreams Aventuras was positive. The property looked nice and staff initially seemed friendly. Unfortunately, our experience deteriorated significantly as the week progressed. Our bathroom was terribly designed. I’m 5’10” and the showerhead barely cleared my height, while the shower door was so inadequate that every shower flooded the bathroom. We constantly needed extra towels, yet housekeeping was incredibly inconsistent. We regularly chased down towels, toilet paper and soap. We requested shower soap FIVE times before going to the front desk. When we asked for toilet paper, we received ONE roll and were treated as though requesting more was unreasonable. Food was a major disappointment. The resort advertises numerous restaurants, yet several were closed each night, funneling guests into whichever few they chose to open. We tried every restaurant. There were occasional bright spots—the steak at Portofino and breakfast omelet station—but overall, quality and consistency were extremely poor. This ranks among our most disappointing resort dining experiences. We both experienced significant stomach issues from the food. Even food felt rationed; ask for bacon and you might receive a tiny amount. Drinks were equally disappointing. I never saw fresh fruit used in my regular cocktails. My mango daiquiri was powder mixed with water and tasted like Kool-Aid. We’d specifically request Smirnoff or Absolut and repeatedly receive a completely different bottom-shelf Polish vodka that tasted like rotten tequila. The ONE exception was Marco, the evening lobby mixologist. He was fantastic and made quality cocktails with good ingredients. He was easily our only highlight. One of the two small pools is Preferred Club only, funneling everyone else into a pool that cannot comfortably accommodate the 300 room resort. It was extremely crowded and visibly cloudy/filthy. We left within 15 minutes after seeing kids spitting in the water. Far from relaxing. The lagoon wasn't a good alternative. There were sharp rocks—I cut my toe simply walking along the water—and enough algae/debris that our group didn't want to swim there. The final straw was the lunch buffet. The resort app listed closing as 4:30 PM. We arrived at 3:30. Before 4:00, staff began pressuring us to leave. I explained THEIR app said 4:30. They didn't care. A server stood nearby glaring at us while we finished, and the AC was turned off while we were still eating. I left sweating, angry and feeling completely unwelcome. This wasn't just two picky travelers. Our group reached 17 people, and many experienced similar frustrations. We originally booked another Dreams property, but after booking were informed it would become adults-only August 14. Our stay ran through August 17, and because we had teenagers, we had to relocate. Dreams Aventuras never felt like a comparable replacement. It felt like our money had already been collected, we'd been moved here, and what happened afterward wasn't a priority. We felt trapped and discarded. Overall, this felt like a resort cutting corners everywhere. We travel extensively and don't expect perfection. We DO expect basic hospitality, cleanliness, decent food and the services advertised. We left shocked this property operates under the Hyatt umbrella because our experience was nowhere near the standard we associate with Hyatt. Marco deserves recognition, but one excellent employee couldn't compensate for an otherwise deeply disappointing week. We would not return or recommend Dreams Aventuras. Put it this way: our BEST meal and favorite night was when we LEFT the resort for a local burrito restaurant. Delicious food and mango margaritas made with REAL FRUIT! What a magical, innovative concept. 😝 This was the first time I came home from a tropical vacation more tired than when I arrived. Nothing about this experience was relaxing. Read less
