We just returned from the most wonderful family vacation. We travel a lot with our kids but Dreams was our first time taking them to an all inclusive. We have a 10 year old girl and an 8 year old boy. From day one the entertainment staff welcomed us and made our kids feel so special. Our kids participated in all the fun activities day after day. Things they normally wouldn’t do. We formed such a special relationship with the entertainment staff, it’s as if we had known them forever. It was the first time our daughter cried leaving a vacation because she didn’t want to leave the new friends she made in the staff. I don’t know if any other trip will beat this. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for going above and beyond to make our trip so wonderful. Left with new memories and new friends. Read less

Understand that this review is written from a perspective of having previously visited four other Dreams Resorts (2x Dominican Republic and 2x Mexico). Therefore comparison cannot be avoided. The resort is a long distance from Cancun airport so beware, if like us, you have travelled on a long distance flight, waited ages for baggage reclaim and transfer transport. The Preferred Club provided very few additional facilities (e.g. no adults only pool or separate bar area) and exclusivity wasn't policed . Restaurants had limited opening days causing crowding and long wait times in those that were open. Restaurant service was pleasant but inefficient, perhaps due to poor training (e.g. starters would appear after the main course). With the exception of Portofino the ambiance of the restaurants left a lot to be desired. Night time entertainment was very poor and delivered either on a patio by the Oceana restaurant or in a totally unfit theatre devoid of atmosphere. Likewise the Sports Bar was basic and uninviting. The hotel lobby area was very small and provided the only space to relax. This didn't extend to comfortable seating and due to open ended construction resulted in a 'wind tunnel' effect. On a more positive note the main hotel building fabric was very good and our room size one of the best we've ever stayed in with all the facilities expected. As stated at the start, not the best Dreams we've stayed at so sadly won't be returning. Read less

Most of all the staff at this resort is above and beyond. I would especially like to thank the Activity Director and her staff, with a special shout out to Abigail and Zabdiel, for treating our large family like their own. They all made our stay so much fun!! We will be back. Read less

Background My wife and I travel often and stay at many resorts. We are easygoing guests. We do not walk into a room looking for issues or take photos of every small problem. We look for a good overall experience and understand things happen. This stay fell short of expectations for the price point and star rating. We will not return. What Worked Well Transportation, check in, and check out ran smoothly. The staff stood out as the best part of the resort. Every team member we met worked hard and treated guests with care. Staff stayed pleasant and responsive even during busy times. When we reported issues, they acted fast and tried to help each time. Their effort and attitude deserve recognition and was the only bright spot. Room Issues The room had several maintenance problems. The beds do not have fitted sheets. The sheet kept coming loose through the night, which left us waking up on the bare mattress. For a resort in this price category, basic bedding is an expectation. The toilet had a weak flush and often clogged (which was a common issue for other guests as well). The safe also kept malfunctioning and not opening. The resort relies heavily on its mobile app for service requests. We logged maintenance issues through the app multiple times during our stay. Staff responded each time to repair the problem quickly. After several visits for the same issues, however, it becomes frustrating. Seating and Common Areas Seating across the resort created one of the largest frustrations. There were not enough loungers or chairs at the pool, beach (or even seats in the lobby). Guests who did not wake early to reserve spots by the pool or beach had few options, or none at all. I say this even though we are early risers and did not have this issue, but for those who like to sleep in you will be disappointed or feel pressured to set an alarm. The lobby layout adds to the issue. The space feels cramped, and the bar and café area has limited seating. They have one bartender and one barista to serve a large number of guests, which slowed service through no fault of the staff. For a resort in this category, having loungers for guests is expected. Noise at the Pool The pool area stays extremely loud for most of the day. Our trip focused on a couples getaway. We enjoy a fun atmosphere and have no issue with activities or music. The level of constant noise made rest difficult. Organized games, announcements, and loud music ran through most of the day. Guests who want a quieter environment or a nap during the afternoon will struggle, or will want to sit near the beach. Food and Dining Food created the largest disappointment of the trip. For the price and star rating, the dining experience fell far below expectations. We have stayed at many comparable resorts and expected a much higher level of consistency. Specialty restaurants delivered uneven, poor or barely edible meals. After a few attempts we returned to the buffet, which normally serves as the backup option at most resorts. The biggest concern involved illness. All members of our group became sick during the stay from the food. We travel often and follow safe eating habits when abroad. We also spoke with other guests who reported similar issues. Final Thoughts The staff work hard and deserve credit for their effort and professionalism. Outside of the service, the resort fell short in several key areas including room quality, seating availability, noise management, and food. For the price point and star rating, expectations were much higher. Based on this experience, we will choose another resort for future trips. Read less
