The hotel

Experience the two sides of Cancun in one luxurious hotel — the beauty of the beach and the life and soul of Mexico’s ultimate party mecca. Along a private sweep of sands, tiered lagoons spill down the centre of Dreams Playa Mujeres, with three main pools, a children’s pool and six hot tubs, a waterpark, and a mini-splash park... all making this the definitive aqua paradise. Relaxation also comes in the form of the adventures of the kids’ and teens’ clubs, and the indulgence of 10 restaurants, with 24-hour dining on the table. But this is Cancun, so the party’s never far. The fun of downtown’s approximately an hour away and, before you head out, you’ve got 13 bars and lounges to sip at, and live entertainment from stage shows to beach parties.

The lobby reception stood out to me, as I spent at least four hours there waiting for my room to become available. During that time, I noticed a clear inconsistency in how guests were welcomed. When I arrived, I was offered a chilled face cloth and a glass of champagne, while others were simply directed straight through to the lobby. Regardless of how we were received, everyone was invited to sit on the heavily soiled couches in the lobby or in the bar across the way to enjoy the otherwise beautiful view. I chose to stand and pace instead—the view was stunning, but the couches were far too dirty for me to feel comfortable sitting. The atmosphere felt a bit off. I understand it’s a family resort, but on the second night I witnessed a couple arguing outside Building 6, just past Dolce and near the Preferred Club. What stood out most was that staff walked by without acknowledging the situation, as if it were normal. I’m not sure I expected them to intervene, but some form of acknowledgment or reassurance about whether that kind of behavior is addressed would have been appreciated. I was there for a vacation and a family wedding—not to be around disruptive conflicts between other guests. After a long wait, I was assigned an ocean-view room. I was traveling with a group of about 70 people, and it seemed that fewer than a third of us actually received ocean-view accommodations. Some guests were moved to the rooms they originally paid for (ocean view) on the second or third night, while others remained in their initially assigned rooms. In my case, there were three registered guests, but the room was only stocked with two robes and two pairs of slippers. We ended up sharing since our room phone didn’t work for outgoing calls, making it difficult to request additional items. Other guests in our group received the Dreams burlap beach bag in their rooms, but we didn’t receive one. That said, I’m not particularly interested in free promotional items—especially when the brand misses the mark, which, in my opinion, Dreams did. The room décor felt dated, reminiscent of the late 1990s, and could definitely use a refresh. On a positive note, the beds were comfortable, the water pressure was strong, and there was plenty of hot water. The phone only worked on speaker mode for room-to-room calls. The jetted tub on the balcony was a nice feature, though also dated. Unfortunately, the patio daybed mattress was completely soaked after rainfall and unusable, likely due to the lack of an adequate overhang or awning to protect it. A disappointing oversight. For the most part, the cleanliness was acceptable, but the room lacked the five-star welcome experience. The furniture was much better than the stained, soiled fabric on the couches in the reception lobby, but it made me wonder whether the rooms are only cleaned superficially. I don’t think the price of the stay meets expectations. Read less

There was always lots to do around the resort. It was clean and well looked after. Food was good at all the restaurants. If you’re not up by 530/6 am every morning you’re not getting pool chairs. 430 am for the free preferred club cabanas which we weren’t told about by the preferred club. Hibachi is a no go. I have no idea how anyone gets a reservation there. All of us tried every day to book. Wish we would have known that it was keycard only, would have brought something to carry key cards. Read less

Stayed March 2026 for 4 nights Lots of seaweed while we were there so did not get to swim in the ocean . Nothing hotel can do about this . Restaurants were easy to get in and good variety of options . Rooms are large / spacious and clean.request a room away from elevators as you will here all the drunks from the wedding going to there rooms at 2 am. Service all around was fantastic , no issues with that . Chairs by the pool, if you’re not up at 530 am good luck . And if you want a cabana that will more than likely not happen . We seen numerous times were the pool concierge would put random items on chairs and cabanas then they would sit empty for 3-4 hours and eventually some people should show up and hand some cash over for holding the seats all day. But the same concierge would go around and if a chair was empty for 45 mins they would take the items away . Numerous times we saw quite heated confrontations happening by the pool because of this . Hotel needs to find a solution to this . I’ve been to many all inclusive and this one was the worse for the pool chairs . Overall good 4 star option , I would return but hopefully the chair games end soon Read less

The rooms were extremely clean! With that being said. I need to recognize several people! They deserve praise. We had a lady named "Fanny" who cleaned our rooms. She absolutely took care of us! She was so nice and made sure we wanted for nothing! Other staff members who made our trip special. I would like to thank Gabriel. He is so good at getting people involved in activities! Great personality and so fun! I would like to thank David who works in the teen activities room. He was so kind and was unbelievable with my son! Taught him ping pong lessons daily! Alex was also great with the kids in the same area. Last but not least our favorite person who made this trip what it was... Ricardo/Richard.... I honestly can't say enough how much he did for our family! This guy needs serious recognition! To me he is the glue to this resort! What an amazing human being! He was so fun and thoughtful! He is incredible with kids! He went above and beyond to make our trip fun! Thank you Thank you Thank you Ricardo! We will absolutely be back again! Read less
