The hotel

Experience the two sides of Cancun in one luxurious hotel — the beauty of the beach and the life and soul of Mexico’s ultimate party mecca. Along a private sweep of sands, tiered lagoons spill down the centre of Dreams Playa Mujeres, with three main pools, a children’s pool and six hot tubs, a waterpark, and a mini-splash park... all making this the definitive aqua paradise. Relaxation also comes in the form of the adventures of the kids’ and teens’ clubs, and the indulgence of 10 restaurants, with 24-hour dining on the table. But this is Cancun, so the party’s never far. The fun of downtown’s approximately an hour away and, before you head out, you’ve got 13 bars and lounges to sip at, and live entertainment from stage shows to beach parties.

Massages by Sandra and Patrecia were AMAZING! Some of the best ever. Resort is beautiful and everyone on staff is very friendly. They always respond “pleasure”and smile. The main downside of this resort is only half of the restaurants are open each day. That makes absolutely no sense, since there were lines out the door for every restaurant every night. There is no reason that all of the restaurants shouldn’t be open each night. Again, this is a big big drawback. Especially if you’re going with kids and we had our grandkids there so the restaurant typically don’t open until 6 PM and at 6 PM. There’s probably a line of 50 people waiting for the restaurant to open. Typically not everybody gets in, so then they put your name on the list and you may have to wait for 45 minutes. We stayed in the preferred club area, and I would recommend that. It cost a little bit more, but my recollection, as it wasn’t a ton more to be in the preferred club and that gives you access to the preferred club lounge and some of the bars that are just for the preferred club members. Well, we had a great time, I doubt that I would return just because of the fact that I did not like the restaurant situation and it made no sense. This is now a Hyatt Property, and it is insane that Hyatt would not do a better job of keeping restaurants open to accommodate their guests. Read less

My stay at Dreams Playa Mujeres was deeply disappointing. From check-in to check-out, I often felt that the resort was selling one experience while delivering another. Yes, the resort is marketed as all-inclusive, but that description does a lot of heavy lifting. An all-you-can-eat breakfast loses much of its appeal when the food is frequently cold. Unlimited drinks are less impressive when bartenders are overwhelmed and guests spend excessive amounts of time waiting for service. Time and again, I found myself being promised amenities that existed on paper but were difficult to enjoy in practice. Take internet access, for example. The resort advertises Wi-Fi throughout the property, yet the signal was often too weak for me to reliably stream videos on my iPad. On several occasions, I also experienced problems making calls to the United States using my cellphone while connected through the resort. Whether the issue was with the network or connectivity, the result was the same: I repeatedly received messages stating that my call could not be completed. Technically, the resort offers Wi-Fi, but the quality was not what I would expect from a property charging premium prices. The entertainment was similarly underwhelming. The nightclub DJ seemed largely uninterested in reading the room or responding to guest requests. I was surprised by how limited and repetitive the music selection felt. Asking for iconic dance and pop artists such as Donna Summer or Beyoncé should not be considered an unusual request at a vacation resort. Instead, the playlist felt predictable and uninspired, making the nightlife experience far less enjoyable than it should have been. One of the most unpleasant aspects of the stay occurred at the end of the trip. My mother and I encountered an extremely aggressive sales representative promoting vacation ownership and timeshare products. There is a difference between marketing and harassment. When a guest declines an offer, that decision should be respected. The pressure we experienced was uncomfortable and entirely inappropriate. Finally, international travelers should be aware that card acceptance can be an issue. I was unable to withdraw cash using my Discover-branded debit card. Guests may wish to bring a Visa or Mastercard to avoid similar frustrations. What makes this experience particularly disappointing is that Dreams Playa Mujeres charges prices consistent with a luxury resort. At those rates, guests should not have to lower their expectations regarding food temperature, internet reliability, service responsiveness, entertainment quality, or high-pressure sales tactics. The resort has attractive facilities and a beautiful location, but too many basic aspects of the guest experience fell short of the standard that its marketing and pricing suggest. Read less

Location B, Atmosphere B, Rooms B, Value C, Cleanliness B, Noise Level D, Service A, Amenities B. Takes a bit to figure out how to get around, pools need a re-surfacing, buildings have an open air center which exposes guests on all floors to noise in hallways. 4 Adults got sick. Nice resort, but I think there are much better values out there

Dreams Play Mujeres was an excellent all-inclusive resort located on the Gulf north of Cancun. It is a very secure resort located with a community with manned entrances. The resort is definitely a family-oriented resort, but we felt very comfortable there as a couple. Our room, a Preferred Club Junior Suite had a oceanview. The room was spacious and well-appointed. We especially enjoyed the Private Terrace with a Whirlpool bath, day bed and table and chairs. The resort has six specialty restaurants which were all excellent as well as the the buffet and a number of casual eateries. We can't say enough about all of the staff who provided excellent service and were like friends by the end of our stay. We would definitely enjoy a return trip. Read less

We had a great overall experience. The resort offers plenty of pools, so there was something for everyone, whether you wanted a lively atmosphere or a more relaxing spot to unwind. The multiple swim-up bars were a nice touch and made it easy to enjoy refreshments without leaving the pool. The pool entertainment team was outstanding and truly helped create a fun, energetic atmosphere throughout the day. Their enthusiasm and engagement with guests were some of the highlights of our stay. The beach was another standout feature of the resort. It was well-maintained, clean, and provided a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the ocean. We were also impressed by the availability of Bali beds both around the pools and near the beach, making it easy to find a comfortable spot to spend the day without having to reserve one hours in advance. The evening shows were generally good, although most were just average. The exception was the magic show, which was absolutely fantastic and well worth attending. One thing to be aware of is that vendor booths are set up several nights each week. Some guests may enjoy browsing them, while others may find them a bit intrusive. The rooms were adequate and met our needs. While they weren't particularly luxurious, they were clean and comfortable, and the beds provided a good night's sleep. Overall, the resort offered a fun and enjoyable vacation experience, especially thanks to the excellent pool areas, beautiful beach, abundant Bali beds, and outstanding entertainment staff. Read less
