The hotel

Experience the two sides of Cancun in one luxurious hotel — the beauty of the beach and the life and soul of Mexico’s ultimate party mecca. Along a private sweep of sands, tiered lagoons spill down the centre of Dreams Playa Mujeres, with three main pools, a children’s pool and six hot tubs, a waterpark, and a mini-splash park... all making this the definitive aqua paradise. Relaxation also comes in the form of the adventures of the kids’ and teens’ clubs, and the indulgence of 10 restaurants, with 24-hour dining on the table. But this is Cancun, so the party’s never far. The fun of downtown’s approximately an hour away and, before you head out, you’ve got 13 bars and lounges to sip at, and live entertainment from stage shows to beach parties.

If you go here, bring a pillow - the hotel pillows are terrible (esp if you are a stomach sleeper), difficult to sleep on. Avoid, avoid, Avoid the dolphinarium “experience” - it’s an overpriced, disappointing experience - felt like we were totally scammed. You pay for private (Primax) experience, and get shared experience, get yelled and whistled at, everything extremely rushed by staff that don’t appear to know what they are doing or how to interact with the dolphins. Very disorganized and chaotic scheme. They have been having electricity blackouts - I suggest to avoid sensitive/quick spoiling foods if this happens, as they don’t appear to have generators for kitchen or anything and the food was all soggy by the time power came back. Seaweed cleanup is terrible, so don’t get your hopes up for a clean and smooth beach or swimming in the ocean. Drinks are mediocre/poor, bartenders need some education on how to properly mix drinks. Otherwise hotel staff very responsive and nice, immediately respond to your concerns - highly recommend to download their app, everything super fast through there. Breakfast is fantastic! Read less

The resort grounds and landscaping are very nice, and the property is well situated overall. Unfortunately, several other aspects of our stay were disappointing. The pools are in need of maintenance. Some areas of the pool floors were extremely rough, and we noticed missing tiles and damaged areas throughout. Our room in Building 6 was just okay. The bathroom door would not close during our entire stay, so there was no privacy when using the bathroom. The telephone handset also did not work, forcing us to use the speakerphone whenever we needed to call. Even then, the buttons were sticking and difficult to use. We had initially booked a first-floor “ocean view” room, but the view from the balcony was completely blocked by trees with no visible ocean. After seeing the room, I requested that we be moved. The dining experience was probably our biggest disappointment. Most of the restaurants were average or below average, and the steakhouse was particularly disappointing. The meat was tough and had a rubbery texture. Overall, the resort has a nice setting and attractive grounds, but the condition of the pools, room maintenance issues, misleading ocean view, and disappointing food brought the experience down considerably. At this price point—and especially for a Dreams/Hyatt property—we expected much better. Unfortunately, we would not return. Read less

Pretty resort and friendly staff. Note if you are sensitive to mold and mildew smells: this is how some of the rooms smell around the property and in your actual hotel room. Ask for a dehumidifier to help. I recommend paying for preferred club as it makes the experience better

This hotel surpassed my expectations in service, amenities, entertainment , cleanliness, food and drinks. I travelled with husband and 3 children aged 11-5 and there was something for all of us to do if we wanted to. Alberto from the entertainment team was so accommodating- helping my son find a soccer ball to play on the beach with, reminding us of the days activities and calling us when he saw us by the pool to remind us. He connected with all 3 of my kids and really wanted to ensure they were having a great time - you can tell he loves his job and works so hard. Similarly , Alberto - the pool and beach concierge works equally as hard. The chair game is real at this hotel- my 7 am 80% of chairs by the pools were taken with towels. When we approached him one more- before realizing the severity of the situation he worked so hard to find us chairs, move them to a preferred location and find us an umbrella, all with a smile on his face. In addition as far as service goes- any service you call for is quick to come- extra towels, a bell boy to help with luggage- one morning my son founded the toilet someone came in less than 15 minutes to fix it. Service here is above average when compare to other all inclusive in a tropical country. Food and drinks were also great. The buffet is smaller in size and options to other chains like RIUs however, all that was served was delicious . There was a variety of foods for everyone - we always left the buffet satisfied and not from burgers and fries - although there is not a shortage of these foods . We did two Al la carts- the Brazilian steak house - we thought it to be good- we enjoyed most meats but do wish the buffet has a little more variety - although this is more of a food preference on our side - there was lost of options just not what we loved. Pools- we tended to stay at the pools in the morning when they were cooler and cleaner. We noticed by the late afternoon, the pools were very warm and dirty. The lazy river and slides were nothing to write home about- river too slow and the slide is pitch black Overall- this is a great resort we had a great week and would go back! Read less
