The hotel

Experience the two sides of Cancun in one luxurious hotel — the beauty of the beach and the life and soul of Mexico’s ultimate party mecca. Along a private sweep of sands, tiered lagoons spill down the centre of Dreams Playa Mujeres, with three main pools, a children’s pool and six hot tubs, a waterpark, and a mini-splash park... all making this the definitive aqua paradise. Relaxation also comes in the form of the adventures of the kids’ and teens’ clubs, and the indulgence of 10 restaurants, with 24-hour dining on the table. But this is Cancun, so the party’s never far. The fun of downtown’s approximately an hour away and, before you head out, you’ve got 13 bars and lounges to sip at, and live entertainment from stage shows to beach parties.

Fantastic week at Dreams Playa Mujeres We just returned from a week at Dreams Playa Mujeres for our destination wedding with a group of 39 people ranging from babies to grandparents, and everyone had a fantastic time. Service was excellent. I personally didn’t have one bad service experience all week. Our group especially loved Luis at the Grotto Bar. Staff were also incredibly accommodating. One guest was gluten-free, and the concierge personally showed her what she could eat and told her they would make something separately whenever she was unsure. Restaurants also happily made special meals for the babies and kids in our group. We were very happy with the food. Mezze was our favorite dinner and a favorite among several people in our group. Fusion and Tides were also great, especially the sushi, wok fried rice, tacos and nachos. Tres Colores was our least favorite, but it was still a good meal. Breakfast at the buffet was excellent with fresh juices, made-to-order tacos, omelets, fruit, pastries, meats and cheeses. Lunch and dinner at the buffet were fine with plenty of choices. Dolce was a daily stop for iced espresso, ice cream and pastries. Drinks were fantastic when ordered specifically. Ask for the liquor brand you want and a double if you prefer a stronger drink. Bartenders had no trouble with custom orders. Our group especially loved the mojitos and Painkillers. The beach was beautiful. There was some sargassum, but we found it minimal and staff cleaned throughout the day. We swam in the ocean and loved it. There were open beach chairs all day. Yes, the pool chair game is real at the main pool. We saw people saving chairs at 6:30 a.m., but nobody in our group did that and we still found chairs later at the upper pool and Grotto. The Grotto was easily our group’s favorite area. Our Junior Suite Ocean View in Building 8 was spacious, clean and comfortable. The AC worked well, the bed was comfortable, the pillows were amazing, and the huge rain shower had great water pressure. I had read complaints about rooms showing wear and tear, but honestly didn’t notice it. Only three parties in our group had Preferred Club. They loved the lounge, sit-down breakfast and Preferred beach area. We were not Preferred and never felt like we were missing out. Having access to Secrets next door is a great benefit for adults. It’s an easy walk or golf-cart ride, and we had an excellent dinner at Portofino. The kids loved the slides, splash pad and pickleball. Others in our group raved about the spa, golf, sailing, parasailing, dolphins and banana boat rides. A few minor negatives: Wi-Fi wasn’t great, room service could be very slow, our minibar wasn’t consistently restocked, and Mermaid Bar service could be slow. None had much impact on our vacation. And because people always worry about it, nobody in our group of 39 got sick. This isn’t a Ritz-Carlton-level all-inclusive, but it isn’t priced like one. Several people in our group regularly stay at true luxury properties and still loved Dreams. For the price point, we thought the value was excellent. Service, location and food were my three biggest positives. My husband and I would absolutely return. If it were just the two of us, we’d probably choose Secrets, but I would book Dreams again for a family or group trip without hesitation. We had 39 people with 39 opportunities to complain about something. Somehow, Dreams survived us. 😂 Read less

Amazing pools, food and waiters/waitresses! Our children loved the ice cream and all the food choices and we loved the preferred club for drinks. The ocean view was outstanding just wish we had some calmer water during our stay.

An honest review from a mom, dad and kids ages 6 & 10, who have been to other all inclusives in Cancun. Room was not available until 3:45pm despite being told 2:30-3:00. We went to eat and came back and waited for an hour and 45 more minutes until a room was available. Had we known we would have taken the kids to the pool, but instead we waited with two young kids. The whole check-in process was underwhelming and no apologies were offered for our wait after check in time. No poolside service at the kid’s area is unacceptable. Also no drinks except for once a day in a cooler that was unmarked. No one even knew it was there. There was no poolside service at any of the pools Sunday or Monday. Also, not having poolside food was incredibly disappointing. The pools were all in rough shape, especially the entry to the kid’s splash pad and the mermaid pool. Mermaid pool had green sludge just seeping into it one day. Loungers at the kids area were covered in bird poop. Nothing at the kid’s area for adults and pool water was gross. Big slides stained my kid’s suits up with black everywhere. Food was not fresh, options very, very limited at most restaurants. Poolside grill was out of everything when we tried to eat there: shrimp, wings, hot dog buns and something else. All of the restaurants were underwhelming as far as food, none of it was good, even at the Mexican restaurant. The reservation system was terrible. I tried every day at 1:00pm on the dot to get hibachi and it was never available. The room was nice but we were told at check in that they’d refill our fridge everyday but they didn’t. We had to call down to get water and beers, or take waters from the bar. The bartender at Mermaid seemed like he was miserable. Drinks were okay but literally no alcohol in most. Teen area was hidden, we didn’t even know it was there until day 3. Ice cream shop was out of most ice creams by 6pm each night. Navigating the entire resort was difficult and you had to download an app to see a map, which didn’t even show everything. Also, was under the impression we’d have access to Seacrets resort but no one mentioned a single thing about it. Activities were the savings grace. Kudos to Alberto and that team bc without them it would have been very subpar. Read less
