Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa Hotel

Emerald Faarufushi has been an absolute dream, and from the moment we arrived in Malé we felt completely looked after. We were met at arrivals, guided to the seaplane terminal, and welcomed straight off the seaplane and taken to our villa. After a long journey, having every stage handled so seamlessly set the tone for the whole stay. The resort itself is impeccable. Our pool villa was stylish, spacious and extremely private, with a huge bathroom and outdoor shower. The water Vila had a private pool and direct access to the sea. The facilities across the island are spotless and beautifully maintained, from the well-equipped gym and peaceful main pool to the excellent spa. The spa service and treatments were fantastic. The house reef deserves a special mention. It is phenomenal, with several excellent snorkelling points around the island and an incredible amount of marine life accessible directly from shore. Seeing blacktip reef sharks and rays almost every day, alongside such a huge variety of reef fish, was one of the highlights of the entire trip. The resort's mobile app is also genuinely useful. Activities, restaurant information, menus and resort details are easily accessible throughout the stay. As beautiful as the island and facilities are, however, the staff are what truly made Faarufushi feel five-star. We felt genuinely cared for throughout our stay, and there were so many people who deserve individual recognition. Tharif, our concierge, was always available at a moment's notice and willing to help with anything we needed. Arres and the restaurant team made us feel incredibly welcome at every meal, while Ramya, Milais and Awanthi were consistently warm, attentive and thoughtful throughout our stay. Kasun, in particular, was exceptional. He was endlessly friendly, always smiling, and somehow always seemed to notice when we needed something before we had even asked, often dashing over to make sure we were looked after. Nish and Chinna were equally brilliant and made the many hours we spent around the bar some of the most enjoyable parts of our holiday. The whole bar team managed to be attentive without ever feeling intrusive, and we genuinely looked forward to seeing them every day. Neema also deserves a special mention. Her knowledge and warmth added a great deal to our dining experience, and she always made choosing wine feel relaxed and enjoyable. The food across the resort was outstanding. Chef Morello is clearly enormously passionate about what he does, and that came through in the consistency and quality of everything served across the island. The chefs and waiting teams showed real care and attention to detail at every restaurant. Our teppanyaki evening was another particular highlight — unfortunately we didn't manage to catch our chef's name, but he was fantastic: hugely entertaining, engaging throughout the evening, and responsible for one of our most memorable meals of the trip. Housekeeping were equally impressive: discreet, exceptionally thorough, and incredibly thoughtful. We regularly returned to personal messages, small gifts and lovely touches in the villa that made the stay feel genuinely personal. Faarufushi gave us exactly the honeymoon we had hoped for. It is a spectacular island and an exceptionally well-run resort, but ultimately it is the people working here who give it its character. We spent 10 days at Emerald Faarufushi for our honeymoon and can genuinely say it was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. From the moment we arrived to drums, a welcome drink and the team waving us onto the island, to being waved goodbye at the end, we were made to feel so special. The attention to detail was amazing. We arrived at our villa to a hot bath already run for us, and little touches like insect cream and sun lotion being provided showed how much thought goes into the guest experience. We stayed in a Beach Villa with Pool and it was absolutely beautiful, although with the sea literally on our doorstep, we almost didn’t need the pool! Our villa host, Elite, went above and beyond throughout our stay. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and when I was feeling unwell on a boat trip he even helped arrange seasickness tablets for me. He was brilliant. The food was another huge highlight. Every restaurant was fantastic, the cocktails were amazing and the chefs are unbelievably talented. We particularly loved having so many à la carte options, but even the buffet felt incredibly well thought through, every single dish felt like care had gone into it. After 10 days we still weren’t bored of the food or drink because there was so much variety. We visited in August and would 100% recommend the manta ray and turtle excursion. It was one of the highlights of our honeymoon. The dive team were absolutely fantastic, with a special shout-out to Hossain and Thoha, who were both brilliant, knowledgeable and just genuinely lovely people. The house reef is incredible too. You don’t even need to get on a boat to see amazing marine life – we saw little reef sharks, rays and so many beautiful colourful fish just metres from the beach. The spa experience was exceptional as well. My only regret is not booking more treatments! But the thing that really sets Emerald Faarufushi apart is the service. Every single member of staff we met was kind, warm and genuinely welcoming. Somehow they manage the perfect balance of making you feel completely looked after without ever making you feel watched over or intruded upon. It never felt forced or overly formal, just incredibly warm and natural. Special mentions also have to go to Sham, Nish and Arres, along with so many other wonderful people whose names we unfortunately can’t remember. Every interaction was lovely. Our room was also cleaned twice a day and always immaculate. If we had to give one piece of constructive feedback, it would be the evening entertainment. The performers were clearly talented, but it became quite repetitive over a 10-night stay and sometimes lacked a little energy. A bit more variety and atmosphere in the evenings would make an already incredible resort even better. From beginning to end, every moment on this island felt like paradise. The beautiful villas, amazing food, cocktails, reef, excursions and spa are all fantastic, but it is the people and the service that make Emerald Faarufushi truly special. An unforgettable honeymoon and an easy 10/10 from us. We would return in a heartbeat. Read less
