We have just returned from a very enjoyable winter-sun week in RAK. The hotel itself exceeded our expectations. The room was large, comfortable and clean with a view over the pool, and beyond it the sea. We were on an all-inclusive package which meant most of our meals were from the buffet in the Saffar restaurant. Although we were tiring of it by the end of the week the menu varied each day, with a particular theme each evening. The food was interesting, well cooked and plentiful albeit it was sometimes not as hot as we would have liked ( a common theme with buffets ) We tried the two a la carte restaurants and they were also very good, the only issue for us being that, being on an all-inclusive basis, we were only offered the set menu. The a la carte menus looked very expensive. A special shout-out for all the staff throughout the hotel whether on reception, cleaning, cooking and waiting. They were invariably helpful and cheerful, a welcome change from some of the Caribbean resorts we have visited in previous winters. This was particularly impressive considering the large contingent of Russians in the hotel - they all seemed to be so dour and dismissive of the hotel staff, particularly in the restaurant. The pool and beach were excellent and well stocked with beds and umbrellas - no need to rise before dawn to bag the best spots ! There were of course some downsides. The piped music, especially the relentless beat from their preferred dance music, around the pool and beach bar was very intrusive and often clashed with each other. I never understand why hotels think they should impose their choice of music on their clients - most people carry their own ear phones and playlists with them when they want to listen to music. Visitors should also be aware that RAK is developing as an alternative to Dubai and there is a big construction site next door. However it was not as noisy as you might think and did not detract from our experience. Finally, because the area is still developing there is not much of interest within walking distance of the hotel. Despite these downsides we really enjoyed our stay in this hotel and would recommend it as a nice alternative to the hustle and bustle of Dubai. Read less

I regret that this review comes later than promised. I hardly ever actually leave a review, but I cannot think of a better reason to leave a review than the wonderful time we had here. I came for a week with my Mum to celebrate her 82nd birthday. I would say there is not a lot to do outside unless you hire a car. A shuttle bus to Dubai or the mall for example might be a good idea. Anyhow, the hotel was so beautiful, we decided to just stay there and enjoy the facilities. We had booked an all-inclusive package with Voyage Prive, but on arrival, we discovered that all-inclusive does not necessarily mean what you might think. But, the hotel customer relations team were keen to please and it meant that Mum could have a meal in one of the a la carte restaurants on her birthday and also take advantage of afternoon tea in the cafe. We were grateful for the care and concern afforded to us. As I am a vegetarian and Mum is newly dairy-intolerant, meal times can be tricky. However, in the buffet, the chef Shibin was so kind and helpful. He, with others ensured Mum had oatmilk pancakes and a coconut yoghurt available every breakfast and cooked what she liked for lunch and dinner. His coconut rice pudding was second to none! He always knew as soon as we had arrived (did our booking in set off an alarm?!) and came to see us. He walked around the buffet indicating what was available to us, every day. Thank you Shibin. For Mum, the food is one of the most important things and she was very pleased. I should say that the food was all labelled very well as to allergens. There were some errors, so of course some care still needs to be exercised. And then I need to mention the exceptional staff greeting, seating and serving us in the buffet. We have never lingered so long over buffet meals. It really was a joy to see them everyday and learn about where they have come from and what they are studying. When we were able to tell them we had visited their country, it made it even more special. Foolishly, I didn't note their names, but from the photos that I took of them, where I can see, there was Sam from Kerala, Hendra (not really from Monaco) and Eidray (Alligator). Mimosa Moses will never be forgotten, especially the way he ran to hug us goodbye. But this is just part of a wonderful team, including my friend from Nepal who always made a coffee when the machine was being cleaned (and Sam who helped to get one). We were very moved that they gathered to wish us farewell with cake and good wishes and we still think of them often. What was unusual was the friendliness of the staff in the towel hut, and extraordinarily, those from the towel hut on the beach, who we are sorry we missed to say goodbye, but who took great care in making our sunbeds look attractive, even moving them for us during lunchtime, to ensure they remained in the sun. The housekeeping team did a great job. The only dust I saw was on the outside table, which didn't concern us at all. They were aware it was Mum's birthday and she had cake, special towels folded as swans, fruit and even a vase of fresh flowers. Just before we left we were also gifted special sun hats of excellent quality. And so, big thanks go to MD ALI and Tippanna. We had afternoon tea 3 times and as it was Veganuary, it was easy to select cakes we could eat, but the staff were so pleasant and helpful. On the day of her birthday, we ate in the Levant restaurant, which also surprised us with a cake for Mum's birthday and sufficient adaptations and choices for our dietary requirements. Read less
