The hotel

Island Inn is a quaint, 24-room, All Inclusive property situated less than a mile from the centre of Historic Bridgetown and within the Garrison Area — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is footsteps away from the beach at the beautiful Carlisle Bay and Pebbles Beach where the horses come and bathe early morning, and is conveniently close to shops and restaurants. Island Inn will amaze you with its disarming simplicity and old world charm, it was originally built as the rum storage facility for the British regiment in Barbados in 1804! Take advantage of your free scuba diving demo in the pool before hitting the big blue, discovering an underwater world that’s just as beautiful as what lies above! The swimming pool makes a change from the beach and is a charming place to lounge beside, soaking up the sun or reading a good book. There’s also The Boardwalk Restaurant for eclectic dining, serving dishes regarded as very special by locals and guests alike. Evenings tend to be very low key although there is live music three times a week plus a weekly manager’s rum punch party to meet and mingle with fellow guests.

My wife and I travelled with friends, who were celebrating their golden wedding, as were we. We all loved the Island Inn. The small and intimate feel certainly helped make the holiday and you were never short of interesting people to chat to. We found the staff were friendly and attentive - and some were very much part of the fun (special mention for Terry and Elsie). I could quibble about small things but, when I say that the top two are the red wine being served warm and the dress code being a myth, you should realise that I really have nothing to complain about. We found the food good, although some nights were better than others. The room sizes are generous (although an extra light wouldn't go amiss). It's well worth a visit to the sister hotels at the Sands and Mango Bay but Pebbles Beach is probably better than either. There aren't actually many pebbles there and, if you are a snorkeller, you can see almost as many fish under the pier as you can at the Marine Nature Park. Read less

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great for food intolerances - gluten-free, coeliac, corn intolerances well looked after

Gluten-free, coeliac, food intolerances happily catered for. Our second visit here. Lovely easy, small but friendly 24 room hotel in the Savannah garrison’s old rum store - loads of character. All on the ground floor, and felt very safe wandering off to Pebble Beach 100m away for sunsets. Of our party of 7, 4 had serious foodie ‘issues’. Island… Read more

Island Inn kitchen and dining staff were brilliant - attentive, great memories for individuals’ restrictions, patient when they (or we) got it wrong. And caring - “not on my watch” when I asked for something that might be cross-contaminated. Exactly the sort of attitude that’s needed. Will happily return. Read less

It was expensive in Barbados in all areas. Take Mosquito cream for bites. Wear long trousers at nights. Small pool available? This was a super place. Read less

This is our second stay in this hotel. Small (25 rooms) so easy to meet a lot of nice people due to its size. It does need a few upgrades and a bit of paint. We did notice that the food was not as good as last years menu but still very much edible. You will always find fault in every hotel you stay in with one thing or another. If you looking for a party time every night this spot not for you. If you looking for a sit back relax have a few drinks and nice conversation, this is the spot. The only real fault that i found was that some of the staff are very very sour looking. One bartender never smiles and every time you order a drink it is like it is an effort for him. The other bar tender acts like the job is below himself and needs to grow up a bit. Grabbed a drink from my wife because he got it wrong and spilled it over her. Never said sorry and just marched off. The other, Terry, always smiling and so so pleasant cant ask for any better. Some of the servers, here again, it is like an effort for them to do anything for you. I really hope management reads this and has a talk to some of these employees because it does bring down the atmosphere of the hotel. And they don't realize, it cuts into their tips. Short walk to the beach which I find no problem at all. Be prepared to pay for your chairs and umbrella. Tell the venders you staying at the Island Inn. We paid $15.00 US per day. All change they give you back in local money. Would I go back.... YES Read less
