The hotel

In the Maldivian language of Dhivehi, ‘Lobi’ means love and ‘Gili’ means island, so therefore Lobigili is, in essence, the island of love. If you’re looking for a romantic trip for two, this is it. Set in an idyllic location with white sandy beaches and sparkling waters, the adult-only OBLU SELECT Lobigili offers some experiences to make this a trip you will never forget. The largest underwater restaurant in the Maldives, Only BLU offers modern gourmet cuisine with a front row seat to the coral reef – and it’s included in the excellent Lobi Plan. This indulgent plan also includes a complimentary sunset fishing trip and a guided snorkelling trip, so you’ll get to see the best of the island and it’s surroundings after that relax with the included spa treatments. Both the beachfront and over water suites have a modern feel with semi open-air bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes, why not upgrade to the water pool villa for that added luxury of a private infinity pool overlooking the lagoon.

Where is it

Located on the island of Lobigili, just 15 minutes North West of Male International Airport by boat. Complimentary speedboat transfer to and from Malé International Airport.

68 stylishly designed villas, all with air-conditioning, tea/coffee-making facilities, iron and ironing board, complimentary mini-bar replenished daily, robe and slippers, hairdryer, flat-screen LCD TV, in-room safe, separate bath tub and rain shower, and complimentary WiFi access. All villas have 1 king-size bed, sleeping 2 adults.

SunNest Beach Pool Villas feature an open air bathroom, cosy veranda, walk-in wardrobe, and a private pool just steps from the beach.

All Inclusive - The Lobi Plan: includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner served at Ylang-Ylang. Selection of freshly prepared local snacks served between 4:00-6:00pm at The Swing Bar. One a la carte fine dining experience per guest per each four nights stayed at Only BLU (pre-booking required, subject to availability). One dining experience per guest per each four nights stayed at Gaadiya 17 Food Truck. Unlimited orders from a wide selection of liquor and premium wines at Ylang Ylang and The Swing Bar, and unlimited orders of signature cocktails from a selected list at The Swing Bar. Soft drinks, mineralised water, and an assortment of tea and coffee available at all outlets. Complimentary use of snorkelling equipment throughout the stay. Complimentary selection of non-motorised water sports. One complimentary sunset fishing trip per guest per stay (weather permitting). One complimentary snorkelling guide trip per guest per stay (weather permitting). Nest Water Villas are situated over the ocean with direct lagoon access, an outdoor shower, and a private overwater hammock.

We stayed at Lobigili for two weeks in March for our honeymoon. This was our first trip to the Maldives and because it was for a special occasion, we booked a sunset water villa with pool. The room was beautiful. We saw dolphins four times from the deck, sting rays/eagle rays, multiple reef sharks and a variety of tropical fish. Snorkelling along the edge of the rope/buoys was the best place to see marine life, where the water is deeper. We saw lots at night too and spent a lot of time looking at the stars. The spa was lovely as well - the kashi nashi face mask left my skin feeling so soft and hydrated which was very welcome in the heat. All of our meals were excellent and we particularly enjoyed the variety at Ylang Ylang every day. As others have mentioned, the staff and service is exceptional. I was unlucky and arrived sick at the beginning of our trip. However, after mentioning this in passing to our host Alpi, I was taken in a buggy to the island clinic, examined and given antibiotics and other medication. I felt much better after two days and was able to enjoy the rest of our stay, albeit taking it a little easier than planned. Unfortunately didn’t note down the name of the doctor and nurse I saw but we’re very grateful for their care during our stay. Alpi also checked in regularly to see how I was feeling and organised specific meals with the chef for the first two days whilst I recovered. This made an unfortunate situation much more manageable! We didn’t catch everyone’s names but a few people we would like to mention are: Our hosts Alpi and July, Yangzum (room attendant for the majority of our stay), Divya, Rishi and the team at Swing Bar (thanks for making so many “Kamana” signature cocktails) and Hana, Haydie and Carol at Ylang Ylang/Gaadiya 17. The resort itself is stunning, with beautifully designed villas, pristine beaches, and incredible dining experiences. Every detail feels like so much thought has been put in to it, making it the perfect destination for both romance and tranquility. The food was exceptional throughout our stay, with a wide variety of delicious options and impeccable service. The under water restaurant left us completely blown away with views of sharks and gorgeous fish as we dined. Our included trios and spa treatments were amazing. So amazing that my husband fell into a deep sleep during his massage! What a wind down!! What truly made our experience unforgettable, however, was our amazing island host, Mechelle. She went above and beyond to ensure every moment of our stay was perfect. Always attentive, kind, and incredibly professional, Mechelle made us feel genuinely cared for and completely at ease. Mechelle was so happy to check in on us and shared her warm personality, she added a personal touch that made all the difference. We have had the most amazing honeymoon here at LobiGili. The moment we stepped off the boat we were welcomed by our amazing island hostess Sarah. Sarah made our stay so special, she was so kind, friendly and helpful and did everything she could to make this an amazing honeymoon experience for us. There was one day when I wasn't well, and her kindness and responsiveness to make sure I was ok was extremely kind - even offering to make me an appointment at the clinic. Sarah organised all of our itinerary and made changes easily throughout our stay if needed. She kept checking in with us throughout our stay to make sure everything was going well and if we needed anything. The food was incredible, as a vegetarian and coeliac I'm extremely sensitive to gluten which meant I wasn't able to eat from the buffet, however, Chef Rahul and staff made sure I never missed out by meeting me at every meal to make me something gluten free. I didn't have the same meal twice and they went out of there way to make sure I was spoilt for choice! The waitresses (Ayu, Nisha, Kim, Wintri to name a few- sorry didn't catch everyone's names) were also very helpful and friendly and reassuring when I was ordering my gluten free food. They all have a great sense of humour and welcome you with smiles and kindness. The whole island is absolutely stunning, all of the staff (housekeeping, gardening/landscapers) work so hard to make it an idyllic place to stay - it never feels busy and it truly feels like you're the only people on the island at times - a true paradise. Special thanks to Koti who kept our room looking spotless! The spa was excellent - so excellent that I went five times!! Special thanks to Nui who did a fair few of my treatments and was fantastic. Well this was our fourth visit to Lobigili and once again it did not disappoint. Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East there were fewer people at the resort due to their travel being impacted but the management and staff still provided a 5*+ stay and their committment to their guests was impeccable with all services being maintained. The room as always was pristine and cleaned to a high standard and the little touches with the bed being dressed with flowers and foliage for our arrival and the night before our departure thank you Koti. The resort is always quiet and peaceful just what my wife and I look for! As already stated the the accomaodation and facilities on the island are all to the highest standard with food on many occasions being at fine dining standards whether it be Ylang Ylang, Live Indian, Only Blue or Gaadiya all the chefs do a wonderful job with a high level of authenticity in the flavours of the meals. The serving staff engage with you and are always cheerful, special mention for Haydie, Elin, Merina, Drecha, Winteri, Madheeh and Teju and all the other staff just too many to mention. The Swing Bar was excellent with well made cocktails especially by Rishee who managed to conjure me up a Caparinhia and thanks to all the other staff in the bar tha kept our sparkling water replenished regularly during the day. Also thanks to our hostess the ever smiling Mechelle for taking good care of us and Patrice for her infectious positive and happy personality. Also a big thanks to the spa and Ching in particular for the relaxing massages provided as part of the package. We were greeted by many staff on our arrival and were waved of by many staff when we left it made you feel that they really care for you. The location just a 15-20 minute speed boat ride from Male to a true paradise island means a short transfer so you can start your chilled location. We are looking to return to Lobigili in 2027 so I guess we can highly recommend this fabulous resort. Read less
