The hotel

In the Maldivian language of Dhivehi, ‘Lobi’ means love and ‘Gili’ means island, so therefore Lobigili is, in essence, the island of love. If you’re looking for a romantic trip for two, this is it. Set in an idyllic location with white sandy beaches and sparkling waters, the adult-only OBLU SELECT Lobigili offers some experiences to make this a trip you will never forget. The largest underwater restaurant in the Maldives, Only BLU offers modern gourmet cuisine with a front row seat to the coral reef – and it’s included in the excellent Lobi Plan. This indulgent plan also includes a complimentary sunset fishing trip and a guided snorkelling trip, so you’ll get to see the best of the island and it’s surroundings after that relax with the included spa treatments. Both the beachfront and over water suites have a modern feel with semi open-air bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes, why not upgrade to the water pool villa for that added luxury of a private infinity pool overlooking the lagoon.

Where is it

Located on the island of Lobigili, just 15 minutes North West of Male International Airport by boat. Complimentary speedboat transfer to and from Malé International Airport.

68 stylishly designed villas, all with air-conditioning, tea/coffee-making facilities, iron and ironing board, complimentary mini-bar replenished daily, robe and slippers, hairdryer, flat-screen LCD TV, in-room safe, separate bath tub and rain shower, and complimentary WiFi access. All villas have 1 king-size bed, sleeping 2 adults.

SunNest Beach Pool Villas feature an open air bathroom, cosy veranda, walk-in wardrobe, and a private pool just steps from the beach.

Please note: all rooms have a minimum occupancy of 2 people. Single occupancy is not accepted.

All Inclusive - The Lobi Plan: includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner served at Ylang-Ylang. Selection of freshly prepared local snacks served between 4:00-6:00pm at The Swing Bar. One a la carte fine dining experience per guest per each four nights stayed at Only BLU (pre-booking required, subject to availability). One dining experience per guest per each four nights stayed at Gaadiya 17 Food Truck. Unlimited orders from a wide selection of liquor and premium wines at Ylang Ylang and The Swing Bar, and unlimited orders of signature cocktails from a selected list at The Swing Bar. Soft drinks, mineralised water, and an assortment of tea and coffee available at all outlets. Complimentary use of snorkelling equipment throughout the stay. Complimentary selection of non-motorised water sports. One complimentary sunset fishing trip per guest per stay (weather permitting). One complimentary snorkelling guide trip per guest per stay (weather permitting). In-villa minibar replenished daily with an assortment of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages along with a selection of snacks. Unlimited access to the over water gymnasium. Daily live music performances at The Swing Bar. One 45 minute spa treatment per person per every 4 night stay (4 night minimum stay required).

Nest Water Villas are situated over the ocean with direct lagoon access, an outdoor shower, and a private overwater hammock.

SunNest Water Pool Villas are similar to the Water Villas, with the addition of a private infinity pool.

Ylang-Ylang (all-day dining with a la carte menu and live cooking stations). The Swing Bar (poolside bar with live music, afternoon snacks, and drinks throughout the day). Only BLU (underwater fine-dining restaurant). Gaadiya 17 Food Truck (casual dining on the beach, serving a range of exotic game meats). Guests can also dine at Element X at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi as this is included within the All Inclusive plan.

We have had a very special time here at Lobigili – translation of which is ‘love island’. Transfers to and from the airport via fast boat attached to the hotel were excellent. Transfer time 20-25 minutes. The welcome on arrival with the saxophone player was really special and you are encouraged to relax immediately and take in the tranquility Starting with the rooms – we stayed for 5 nights in a Sun Nest beach pool villa and 5 nights in a Sun Nest water pool villa on stilts. Both rooms were identical in size and have a lovely outdoor bathroom, complete with huge bath and showers. They are decorated to a very high standard and cleaned thoroughly every morning and evening. Guests are assigned a host that look after you throughout your stay and we were looked after by Alpi, who was really helpful and super friendly. Thank you again Alpi. The use of WhatsApp to have quick contact with her and vice versa is a great idea and we were sent the daily schedule early every morning. There is plenty to do daily throughout the stay, but absolutely no pressure to participate if you just want to chill out. If you are one to get involved, there is Yoga/pilates 3 times a week, aqua aerobics, culinary masterclasses and regular gym bootcamps and weight training classes. Snorkelling is a must and equipment free to use for your entire stay. The abundance of things to see on the reef included Black Tip sharks, porcupine fish, moray eels, octopus, eagle rays and so much more. We found the most to see was out by the rooms on stilts. The facilities of the gym (shared with the larger sister resort Ailafushi) were excellent with a PT regularly on hand to give advice and help. Many thanks to them for their friendly guidance. Staying for 10 nights we benefited from 2 dinners in the the wonderful Only BLU ‘underwater’ restaurant and 2 nights in the Gaadiya 17 open-air dining, which gave some excellent variety, but to be honest the food and service in the main restaurant, Ylang Ylang, were top class every time. The variety of food on offer caters for all but the fussiest of guests and we didn’t see and disappointed faces while we were there. Thank you to all the chefs at the 3 restaurants. For us, the people that work at this resort are the single main contributing factor as to why this resort is just so wonderful. We made a list of the people that we spoke to (apologies to all those I missed) - Carol, Sumeda, Ayu, Elin, Haydie, Raksha, Mehrunisha, Sapna, Rafa, Setia, Hanna, Aifa, Marina, Kim, Teju and Maya. Thank you all for being so kind and hard working, always making sure everything was just right. This was our first trip to the Maldives and hopefully not our last. We would love to return to Oblu Lobigili one day and can’t recommend this resort enough. Read less
