The hotel

They dare to be different on Sangeli island, on Malé Atoll’s north-west perimeter — where creative minds have concocted a dazzling design hotel that’s a far cry from the simplistic rustic retreats of ‘old Maldives’. Edgy features make it feel fabulously fresh and innovative, but there’s still a nod to authentic Maldives in your super-spacious beach-skimming villa. Sangeli is home to it's very own house reef, easily accessible from both the beach and your stunning water villa. The main Sangeli Island and the smaller adults-only island, One Banyan island, are linked by a string of overwater villas. At One Banyan Island adults can enjoy the adult only infinity pool, plus an  a la carte lunch here during the day serving light meals. Here you will also find the exclusive honeymoon select ocean villas and have your very own butler and floating breakfast included! You can amble between the spa, overwater gym, dining venues and recreation and water sports hubs at your leisure. And, the premium all-inclusive Serenity Plan provides complimentary treats along the way, including a daily mini-bar refill, two fine dining experiences a week, unlimited drinks, one 45 minute spa treatment for every 4 night stay per couple and selected excursions, activities and water sports. We recommend a drink in the Rock Sunset Bar at the western tip of the island, the perfect spot to enjoy magical sunsets with a cocktail in hand, all whilst being serenaded by the incredibly talented resident jazz musician!

Where is it

On the north-western edge of the Malé Atoll, this resort is set over two small islands linked by a curve of water villas, with the spa and two restaurants on the smaller island, and most other amenities on the larger island. Complimentary speedboat transfer to and from Malé International Airport: 50 minutes, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On arrival day, guests will be met by representatives at the airport and escorted to the speedboat jetty. A boat host will be on hand to ensure a smooth journey.

137 villas and suites, all with air-conditioning, safe, tea/coffee-making facilities, hairdryer, complimentary WiFi access, complimentary mini-bar replenished daily, iron and ironing board, mini bar, flat-screen LCD TV, bathrobe, and slippers.

Beach Villas are 81m² standalone villas facing the lagoons, and have a semi open-air bathroom, direct beach access, and 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Serenity Plan: All-Inclusive of: buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner at The Courtyard, plus one visit included at either JustWok or Just Grill, for lunch or dinner, for a one to three-night stay (two visits included, for a four to seven-night stay; three visits included, for an eight to 11-night stay; four visits included for a 12-night stay and above. Pre-booking required, as per availability. Children under 16 years can dine at specialty restaurants during dinner only). Freshly prepared local afternoon snacks at the Hedhikka Hut. A selection of drinks including regular international brands spirits, wines, and beers, cocktails, mocktails, soft drinks, mineral water, tea and coffee from The Courtyard, JustWok, Just Grill, The Sangs Bar, One Banyan Bar, At The Rock Sunset Bar open from 5-7pm enjoy the cocktail of the day, wine, beer and soft drinks. In-room mini-bar (beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks, replenished once per day). Water sports including stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, pedalo rental and snorkelling equipment. Beach Villas with Pool feature a 13m² private plunge pool, and direct beach access ,with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Water Villas are set over the ocean with direct access to the house reef, ocean view, bathtub and rain shower, private sundeck with loungers, and 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Water Villas with pool are the same as water villas, with direct access to the lagoon, with the addition of an outdoor bed and private pool, featuring 1 king-size bed, sleeping 2 adults.

Honeymoon Select Ocean Villas are intimate over water villas with a private pool, sunset views, and an outdoor shower, sleeping maximum 2 adults. These villas include direct check-in at your villa, welcome bottle of champagne with canapés and fruit platter, dine-around in all three restaurants throughout the stay, one couples massage per stay (for stays of 4 nights or more), special evening turn-down service, dedicated butler service, and in-villa floating breakfast once during stay.

Two Bedroom Beach Pool Suites feature two open-air bathrooms, spacious living area, direct beach access, veranda with comfy daybed, and a private pool. One master bedroom has 1 king-size bed, with the secondary bedroom featuring twin beds, sleeping maximum 4 adults and 2 children.

We stayed at Sangeli over Christmas 2025 and had a lovely experience. The Serenity All Inclusive plan was fantastic, the choice of food and drinks was great and the 2 a la carte meals we got as part of the plan were brilliant. We also got a massage and an excursion to snorkel on the house reef by boat. I have to start by explaining what happened on the snorkeling trip - we were waiting to board the boat when we heard that the dive trip that had just left the jetty had spotted dolphins on the reef. We were told of this and hurried onto the boat and within 2 minutes we were spotting the fins from the boat. The team helped us all get ready as quickly as possible and then we were in the water swimming with around 100 wild dolphins! It was one of the most amazing experiences of our lives and will forever be grateful to Nazmee and the team for enabling this for us. Positives: Our accommodation was also perfect, we had a beach villa which perfectly fit our family of 4, with the children being on a rollaway camp bed and the other on a day bed. Christmas Day was made very special for the children with a visit from Father Christmas first on a jet ski in a sort of stunt display and then riding down the jetty to the island on his “sleigh” and each received a gift from the hotel on Christmas Day which was a lovely treat. The Grounds Team deserve some kudos as the island was meticulously looked after, we’ve stayed at around 8 resorts and I’ve never noticed the grounds enough to comment but at Sangeli I really felt the island was well looked after. Room for Improvement: There were no sunbeds around the pool, they are all nearby on the beach but there definitely weren’t enough for everyone so there were people everyday who were making comments to the staff about the lack of sunbeds. I understand we were there at peak time but there were definitely not enough but still plenty of space to accommodate more. Similar experience with the snorkelling equipment. My husband and I are avid snorkellers so as soon as we had settled in we went straight to the dive centre to grab our gear only to be told they didn’t have any and to come back tomorrow when hopefully some departing guests may have handed them back in. We’ve never experienced that before and as snorkelling is such a key reason we travel to the Maldives, I will definitely consider bringing my own in the future even though it’s advertised that they provide this as part of the AI plan. I spoke to the hotel management about this and then some snorkelling equipment showed up. The house reef was a little disappointing, we usually see sharks galore in the shallows while in the Maldives but we didn’t see a single shark the entire time we were there. There were fish and I got very lucky with one octopus but other than that, it seemed very bare and empty which was a real shame. All in all, we did love Sangeli and if the reef had been better we would definitely be going back. Read less

Best experience! The staff was wonderful. Our butler Nazeel was excellent. He did it all. Made sure we had a great time and never missed a call. The rooms were perfect. They kept it clean the entire time of us being there.

Our stay at OBLU SELECT Sangeli was a masterclass in how a dedicated team can transform a great holiday into a legendary one. We stayed in the Honeymoon SELECT Ocean Villa, and it is a secluded paradise—the retractable roof for stargazing and the private pool are incredible. Pro tip: The Floating Breakfast is an absolute MUST, and it's even included as part of the Honeymoon Suite package! It’s the ultimate Maldives moment and a highlight of our stay. Niheart – The Fixer and Friend: While the island is stunning, our butler (host), Niheart, was the true star. He is a world-class professional, but he also acts like a genuine friend. He is the ultimate "fixer." We had a few minor hiccups early on—occasionally a forgotten drink or a missing food order—but somehow Niheart always found out and "ironed out the kinks" immediately. His "fixer" mentality was on full display for my birthday. I asked for champagne at the Rock Bar, and he navigated the full situation to make it happen perfectly. He even brought his pet parrot along to meet us and sang Happy Birthday! He even joined in the fun during a paddle board race, showing what a great personality he has. The ultimate proof of his dedication was the "transfer rescue." When logistics tried to put us on a 7:30 AM boat for our move to Lobigili, Niheart stepped in to ensure an easy transition. He pushed our departure to 1:30 PM, allowing us to enjoy a final morning in paradise and even swinging a complimentary final lunch at 12:30 PM past our checkout time. Non-Stop Island Life: One thing people don't tell you about Sangeli is how busy you will be! Between the complimentary spa treatments, the snorkeling (we saw sharks and turtles!), and the endless activities, this has been one of the busiest holidays we’ve ever had. I brought a book and I’m struggling to even get through it because there is so much to do. You definitely won’t get bored with all the free activities included. The Dream Team: * Sia at The Courtyard: She was so consistently friendly and looked after us at every meal with such genuine warmth. She is a huge asset to the resort. * Honeymoon Treats: From the direct check-in with champagne to the beautiful turn-down services, we felt completely celebrated throughout. Verdict: While the snorkeling is great (even if the rays stayed shy!), it is the staff that makes Sangeli. Request Niheart—he’s a fixer, a friend, and the best butler in the Maldives. As we reached Sengali with its crystal turquoise waters and pristine white beaches our excitement rose. To then be greeted in such a warm Maldivian welcome by the team it made us feel so special. Chaperoned to lunch which was spectacular and had a choice for everyone, then whisked across to our beach villa with pool in room 206. Room 206 was fantastic and as we walked through the garden to the beach it was paradise for the next 9 nights We would like to mention everyone of the team at Sengali we met. They all had a smile and a warm welcome and it felt like we had a PA for the whole experience from dining to the spa and on the wonderful excursions. Gokarna and Chef Ravi went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. We bumped into Brett on a couple of occasions and he would always smile and chat and genuinely wanted to learn about our experience. The Beach Villas where we stayed were spacious, elegant, and thoughtfully designed, offering stunning views and complete comfort. Every detail reflected refined luxury, while still feeling warm and welcoming. The staff were highly professional, attentive, and discreet, ensuring a seamless and personalised stay throughout. The dining experience was memorable, with beautifully presented dishes, fresh ingredients, and a variety that complemented the island setting. Pleased to meet Chef Rajesh and Chef Nihad who took care of our taste buds throughout by well curated Indian cuisine. The beach areas and common spaces were impeccably maintained, allowing guests to enjoy the natural surroundings in comfort and peace. The activities which were included in the package again gave a surreal experience. Our dive in mate Mr Sohag who treated us with fresh organic sugarcane juice from Nurse Shark Island. The Manager , Mr. Surendra was always around asking us if all’s well. A special mention must be made of Mr Niheart, our mate, assigned to us, who truly elevated our stay and made it exceptionally memorable. From thoughtfully picking us up and dropping us around the island to ensuring every detail of our daily plans was seamlessly managed, his service was impeccable. It was too fun playing beach volley, tennis, football and of course chess and it was Niheart who made sure we get the most of it. Overall, the resort delivered a truly rejuvenating island-luxury experience. It is an ideal destination for those seeking exclusivity, serenity, and a deep connection with nature.
