We have just returned from OBLU SELECT Sangeli, and I can honestly say it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited and one of the most memorable holidays of my life. Some destinations look spectacular in photographs but disappoint in reality. Sangeli is quite the opposite. No photograph can truly capture the brilliant white sand, extraordinary turquoise water and breathtaking natural beauty of this little island. What really distinguishes Sangeli, however, is the exceptional quality and variety of its food and the genuinely wonderful people who work there. The hospitality was extraordinary, and the dining exceeded our expectations in almost every respect. I wanted to write a balanced review because this resort deserves enormous praise, although there are a couple of areas where improvements would make an already exceptional experience even better. Arrival and First Impressions The experience begins before reaching the resort. Flying into the Maldives and seeing the extraordinary shades of turquoise, tiny islands and coral reefs scattered across the Indian Ocean is unforgettable. At Malé airport, we were promptly greeted by a friendly resort representative who recognised us by name, took care of our luggage and made the transfer process effortless. We had a short wait before boarding our speedboat. As someone prone to seasickness, I had been slightly apprehensive, but the boat was comfortable, air-conditioned and even had WiFi. The journey was absolutely fine. Nothing quite prepares you for arriving at Sangeli itself. We arrived after dark, which made the experience particularly magical. As we approached the illuminated jetty, a wonderful group of staff were waiting with beaming smiles, refreshing cold towels and beautiful handmade garlands woven from leaves. The warmth of the welcome was extraordinary. Following welcome drinks and an introduction to the resort, we met Azey, who was absolutely delightful. He took us on a buggy tour, explaining the island's facilities before escorting us to our overwater pool villa. Azey created a WhatsApp group so we could contact him whenever necessary and sent us a lovely message every morning wishing us a wonderful day. He was consistently cheerful, attentive and helpful throughout our stay. We arrived too late for the traditional drumming welcome, although we subsequently enjoyed watching other guests experience it. Our arrival was nevertheless one of the warmest welcomes we have experienced anywhere. Our Overwater Pool Villa Our overwater villa with a private pool was simply magnificent. Spacious, beautifully appointed and immaculately presented, it offered everything we could possibly have wanted. Our luggage was already waiting, the bed was exceptionally comfortable, and waking each morning to the sound of the sea and uninterrupted views across the Indian Ocean was wonderful. The air conditioning in the bedroom was excellent, providing welcome relief from the tropical heat. The bathroom, with its large shower, beautiful bathtub and enormous window overlooking the water, was particularly impressive, although considerably warmer and more humid. One amusing quirk was an air vent positioned directly above the toilet roll, which occasionally sent the paper unravelling enthusiastically! There was an excellent selection of toiletries, including sunscreen, together with thoughtful extras such as a beach bag and a separate bag for wet swimwear. The minibar was regularly replenished, and bottled water was plentiful. Housekeeping visited twice daily, maintaining an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness. We didn't receive the elaborate towel animals we noticed in some other villas, but this was a very minor observation. The glass viewing panel in the floor was a lovely feature. We spotted a stingray passing underneath, together with occasional fish. There wasn't quite as much marine life directly beneath the villa as I had imagined, although the surrounding sea was considerably busier once we entered the water. Outside, the private deck was spectacular. The pool was genuinely private, with uninterrupted ocean views, and swimming together beneath the moonlight was one of the most romantic experiences of our holiday. Steps led directly into the sea, with a convenient freshwater shower for rinsing afterwards. My partner loved snorkelling from the villa while I enjoyed watching her explore from the deck. The television provided useful weather and activity information, together with fascinating live footage of the resort's coral restoration efforts. Everything about the villa encouraged complete relaxation. Luxurious without feeling ostentatious, it was an exceptional place to stay. The Island, Beaches and Facilities I am not exaggerating when I say I almost cried when we first saw the island properly in daylight. It really is that beautiful. Brilliant white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, swaying palms, tropical flowers and lush vegetation create scenery that almost seems unreal. Everywhere you look is another breathtaking view. The grounds are meticulously maintained, with hammocks tucked away in peaceful locations, beautifully landscaped pathways and thoughtful facilities throughout. Even the public toilets near the beach are attractively designed, with stepping stones across a water feature! The beaches are stunning, with plenty of loungers and towels. Despite the resort apparently being close to full occupancy, it never felt crowded. At times, we had enormous stretches of paradise almost to ourselves. There are two beautiful swimming pool areas, including the adults-only pool on One Banyan Island. We spent part of our first day there and were so relaxed that we both fell asleep. The member of staff looking after the area thoughtfully ensured we weren't disturbed. Both pools were immaculate, with attentive drinks service and spectacular surroundings. We also enjoyed the slide leading from the beach into the sea, although some caution is advisable because the water is relatively shallow. Activities include table tennis, giant chess, tennis, beach volleyball, an overwater gym, kayaking and paddleboarding. We didn't use the gym, although we did enjoy running around the island, which was a rather different experience from running at home, particularly in the heat and humidity! The TGI Maldives dive centre provides snorkelling equipment, and when my partner experienced difficulty with her mask, the team happily exchanged it. Sangeli is undoubtedly a resort focused on relaxation and the ocean, and for us that was precisely its appeal. Food and Dining Experiences If there is one thing I would particularly encourage prospective guests to look forward to, it is the food. Quite simply, it was exceptional. I have stayed at some wonderful hotels around the world, but I genuinely struggle to remember enjoying food anywhere as much as I did at Sangeli. The main buffet restaurant, The Courtyard, is an absolute triumph. The variety, presentation, quality and flavours were consistently outstanding, with an enormous selection of international cuisine and excellent live cooking stations. I particularly loved the Indian food. Watching the chef prepare fresh naan bread was a pleasure, and he was such a warm, engaging gentleman. The curries were absolutely delicious. I also appreciated the opportunity to sample traditional Maldivian breakfast dishes, particularly tuna and coconut. Experiencing local cuisine made breakfast feel even more special. There were beautiful salads, fresh fruit, countless hot dishes and tempting desserts. Everything was attractively presented and constantly replenished. We met the head chef, who kindly explained that his team would happily prepare anything we particularly wanted. What extraordinary hospitality! In truth, there was absolutely no need because the existing selection was already so extensive. As a pescatarian, I sometimes struggle to find sufficient choice, even in expensive hotels. At Sangeli, I was completely spoiled for choice, and the clear labelling made selecting dishes easy. I found myself wanting to try everything, which probably explains why I returned home rather heavier than when I arrived! The restaurant's setting is equally wonderful. We particularly enjoyed sitting overlooking the ocean, with those extraordinary turquoise waters providing the backdrop to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Service was generally excellent. Plates were cleared promptly, water replenished regularly and the staff worked tirelessly. Occasionally we needed to request cutlery, but this was quickly addressed. We also visited both speciality restaurants, Just Wok and Just Grill, on the beautiful adults-only One Banyan Island. Both were outstanding. The atmosphere was more intimate and refined, with beautifully presented courses, attentive table service and thoughtful touches such as a refreshing sorbet between courses. The food was every bit as impressive as at The Courtyard, and both evenings felt particularly special. What impressed me most was the consistency. This wasn't simply one exceptional meal. It was breakfast, lunch and dinner, day after day. For an all-inclusive resort, achieving such consistently high standards is remarkable. The entire culinary team deserves enormous recognition. The food alone would be a compelling reason to return. Staff, Service and Hospitality Beautiful islands and luxurious accommodation can be found in many destinations, but genuinely exceptional hospitality is much rarer. The people at Sangeli are undoubtedly among its greatest assets. Almost everyone we encountered was warm, welcoming and genuinely interested in ensuring we enjoyed our stay. Staff remembered us, greeted us with smiles and frequently asked how our holiday was going. Azey deserves particular recognition. His cheerful personality, thoughtful daily messages and willingness to help with anything made our stay even more special. At The Sangs bar, Jaavid and Shiru were absolutely lovely. Both were consistently attentive, friendly and welcoming. Service around the pools and bars was so proactive that we rarely needed to approach the bar ourselves. When we did, the lady working behind the bar was equally delightful. The restaurant team also deserves tremendous praise, from the wonderfully engaging chefs to the hardworking waiting staff. Sia was particularly warm and engaging with my partner, demonstrating the personal connections that staff develop with guests. I wish I had recorded more names because so many people deserve individual recognition, including housekeeping, the pool attendants, dive centre staff and the wonderful spa therapists. I was also struck by how professional and patient the staff remained when dealing with guests who were unnecessarily demanding or discourteous. Their jobs cannot always be easy, yet they consistently delivered service with warmth and a smile. It is the people, more than anything, who transform Sangeli from a beautiful island into a truly memorable resort. Bars, Drinks and Evening Entertainment The all-inclusive drinks offering was excellent, with a wide selection of cocktails, spirits and other beverages. The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable and happy to prepare different creations. We particularly enjoyed the pop-up Gin Lab, where experimenting with combinations and flavours was great fun. The Rock Bar deserves special recognition. Situated beside the ocean and opening for sunset, it is one of the most beautiful places imaginable to enjoy an evening drink. Sitting on chairs or beanbags, cocktail in hand, watching the sky change colour over the Indian Ocean was simply magical. The surrounding water was full of fish, and we even watched a heron patiently searching for its next meal. There was also a parrot overhead, which we understood might belong to a member of staff! These little moments made our holiday so memorable. Unfortunately, evening entertainment was one of the few areas that disappointed us. I appreciate entertainment is subjective, but during the evenings we spent at the main bar, performances seemed to revolve around the same guitarist and vocalist. We didn't particularly enjoy the music, and the volume was often unnecessarily loud, making conversation difficult. We would have loved greater variety, perhaps different musicians, acoustic performances, traditional Maldivian music or cultural experiences. Other activities were advertised during our stay, but we didn't attend those particular evenings, so I can only comment on what we experienced personally. For a resort of this standard, there is an opportunity to create something really special after dark. Greater variety and more carefully controlled volume would make a considerable difference. Snorkelling and Excursions The snorkelling was absolutely wonderful. One of Sangeli's greatest attractions is being able to explore the underwater world directly from the beach without needing to book an excursion. Simply entering the clear water brought us face to face with beautiful tropical fish, and we spent many happy hours exploring different areas around the island. I captured some wonderful underwater photographs and videos, although nothing quite compares with experiencing the colours and movement of marine life firsthand. We didn't encounter turtles or sharks during our stay, but wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, and there was still plenty to see. Being able to snorkel directly from our villa was another wonderful feature. We also joined the included reef snorkelling excursion aboard a traditional Maldivian boat. As someone who isn't especially confident in deep, open water, I was initially apprehensive, but the excursion was professionally organised, with reassuring and attentive staff. I felt safe throughout. We didn't see significantly more marine life than we had already encountered closer to shore, but being out on the ocean and exploring the reef from another perspective was thoroughly enjoyable. The experience also helped build my confidence, and afterwards I felt considerably more comfortable snorkelling independently from the beach. Unfortunately, our included fishing excursion was cancelled because of unsuitable weather conditions. As we were approaching the end of our stay, rearranging wasn't possible. This was entirely understandable, and safety must always come first. We didn't book additional excursions, although I wish we had stayed longer to experience more of what the Maldives has to offer. Spa and Wellness Experiences The spa was another highlight. We enjoyed a wonderful couples' treatment with two exceptionally professional and attentive therapists. My partner had a facial, while I asked my therapist to concentrate on a troublesome knot in my shoulder. She did an excellent job, and I left feeling considerably more relaxed. We paid to extend our treatment beyond the experience included in our package, and it was absolutely worthwhile. One minor criticism is that advertised spa prices excluded additional taxes and charges, meaning the final amount was higher than the headline price. Greater clarity would be appreciated. We also attended a complimentary floating meditation session in the main swimming pool. This involved floating with the support of pool noodles, relaxing sounds and a gentle foot massage. It was an unusual but surprisingly wonderful experience, and something I would definitely recommend. Both experiences complemented the island's peaceful atmosphere beautifully. Areas for Improvement I want to emphasise that these observations are intended constructively because we genuinely loved Sangeli and would dearly like to return. Our principal concern was smoking. I appreciate that some guests smoke, but in a destination celebrated for its pristine natural environment, we were disappointed by how widespread smoking appeared to be. At The Sangs bar, smoking was permitted in areas that felt effectively enclosed, particularly when doors were shut during rain. On one occasion, the smoke became sufficiently unpleasant that we no longer felt comfortable staying. Although there was a designated non-smoking area towards the back of the bar, near the swing seats, smoking was permitted at tables immediately in front of it, undermining its purpose. I would strongly encourage management to make enclosed bar areas completely smoke-free and establish clearly separated smoking areas elsewhere. Even more disappointing was seeing cigarette ends discarded around sun loungers and occasionally on the beautiful white sand. This is primarily the responsibility of inconsiderate guests rather than the hardworking resort staff, but it was upsetting to see such a magnificent natural environment treated this way. It seemed particularly contradictory given the resort's efforts to protect and restore the surrounding marine ecosystem. A stronger approach to smoking, better disposal facilities and more effective protection of non-smoking areas would be enormously welcome. Alongside improvements to evening entertainment, this would make an already outstanding resort considerably more appealing to us for future visits. Final Thoughts Without hesitation, OBLU SELECT Sangeli gave us one of the most beautiful and memorable holidays we have ever experienced. The island is breathtaking, the accommodation luxurious, the beaches extraordinary and the snorkelling wonderful. But what truly makes Sangeli special is its food and its people. The culinary team delivered consistently exceptional meals, surpassing anything I had expected from an all-inclusive resort, while the staff showed genuine warmth, kindness and personal attention throughout our stay. From Azey's thoughtful morning messages to the wonderful chefs, bartenders, restaurant staff, housekeepers and spa therapists, countless people contributed to making this holiday unforgettable. There are areas where improvements could be made. Better evening entertainment and a more considerate smoking policy would make an enormous difference to us personally. Indeed, those are the only reasons we have found ourselves considering alternative resorts for a future Maldivian holiday rather than immediately booking to return to Sangeli. And perhaps that is the greatest compliment I can pay the resort. We loved it so much that we desperately want to return, and only a couple of relatively specific issues give us any hesitation. I would have happily stayed another week, exploring the reefs, enjoying the extraordinary food, meeting more of the lovely staff and simply appreciating the privilege of being somewhere so beautiful. Leaving was genuinely difficult. To everyone at Sangeli who made our holiday so special, thank you. Your warmth, kindness and dedication have given us memories we will treasure for years to come. Having experienced some rather mixed weather during our stay at OBLU SELECT Sangeli, including periods of prolonged rain, I found myself with the opportunity to write a more detailed TripAdvisor review than usual! Hopefully, it provides a balanced insight for anyone considering a holiday here, particularly couples or those travelling in October. We travelled with Kuoni, having previously enjoyed holidays in the Maldives. Sangeli certainly delivers in many respects. The island is beautiful, the beaches are stunning, the accommodation is comfortable, and there are some genuinely exceptional members of staff. However, there were also inconsistencies in service, facilities and entertainment that prevented the experience from being quite as special as it could have been. Our arrival at Malé Airport was completely trouble-free. Representatives from Kuoni and Sangeli were waiting to meet us, and the transfer arrangements were efficient and well organised. This was our first experience of a speedboat transfer, having previously travelled by seaplane. The waiting area was considerably less salubrious than the seaplane lounges we had experienced, although perfectly functional. The journey itself took approximately an hour and was surprisingly comfortable, with air conditioning and internet access available throughout. Our arrival at Sangeli was slightly disappointing. Other guests, particularly those returning to the island, appeared to receive a warm and enthusiastic welcome. Somehow, we seemed to become the forgotten party, standing around while others were greeted and attended to. Eventually, we were escorted to our villa, but it wasn't quite the five-star welcome we had anticipated. We were allocated Beach Villa with Pool number 202, immediately adjacent to The Courtyard restaurant and Sangs Bar. Initially, I was concerned about potential noise from the bar, but thankfully those concerns proved completely unfounded. In fact, the location turned out to be extremely convenient, particularly during periods of unpredictable weather. The villa itself was spacious, clean and well presented, with housekeeping attending twice daily. The air conditioning was excellent, the toiletries were good quality, and the bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. Combined with effective blackout curtains, we enjoyed consistently excellent nights' sleep. The beach immediately outside our villa was beautiful, with convenient access to the island reef for snorkelling. The current was noticeable and required some effort to swim against, so guests should be mindful of conditions. Life jackets were provided in the villa, and snorkelling equipment was available from the dive school. The only real disappointment with the accommodation was the private pool. The surrounding garden was rather overgrown, creating considerable shade throughout much of the day. Consequently, the pool was less appealing than anticipated and remained largely underused. Given the premium associated with this accommodation category, better management of the surrounding vegetation would improve the experience. Sangeli itself is undoubtedly beautiful, although we quickly discovered that different areas of the island offered very different experiences. The main pool around Sangs Bar was frequently busy and crowded, particularly with families. While perfectly suited to those travelling with children, it wasn't really what we were looking for as a couple. Fortunately, the adults-only area at One Banyan, towards the far end of the island, was much more to our liking. The atmosphere was noticeably quieter and more relaxing, and it quickly became our preferred location. We developed a routine of heading to One Banyan whenever the weather was good, while spending more unsettled days around our villa and the adjoining beach. This was where Villa 202's proximity to The Courtyard and Sangs Bar proved particularly useful. We travelled in October, fully appreciating that the weather could be unpredictable, and unpredictable it certainly was! We experienced a mixture of sunshine, cloud and rain. When the sun appeared, Sangeli was everything you could wish for from a Maldivian holiday, with beautiful turquoise water, white sand and stunning tropical surroundings. Unfortunately, prolonged periods of rain inevitably restricted what we could enjoy. While the weather is clearly beyond the resort's control, it highlighted some shortcomings in the facilities, particularly the internet connection. Even in good weather, the Wi-Fi was slow at the best of times. When the rain arrived, the connection frequently deteriorated further and occasionally stopped working altogether. I appreciate that we were staying on a remote island, but reliable internet should be a reasonable expectation at a premium five-star resort. During prolonged rain, when outdoor activities were limited, the inability to stream a film or browse the internet became particularly frustrating, leaving relatively little to do. Dining at The Courtyard took a little getting used to, although breakfast and lunch were consistently very good, with plenty of choice and generally excellent food. The evening buffet was slightly less impressive. With quite a few families staying at the resort, we found that dining after 8pm generally provided a more relaxed atmosphere. The Indian food station was particularly good, and the freshly prepared naan breads were absolutely outstanding! The pasta station was another favourite, largely thanks to Tory, who deserves special recognition. My wife doesn't particularly enjoy spicy food, and Tory was brilliant at preparing dishes to suit her preferences. Nothing was too much trouble, and his friendly, accommodating approach demonstrated exactly what good hospitality should look like. Service at the bars and The Courtyard was generally very good. Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. I would particularly like to recognise Sza, whose customer service and genuinely friendly nature were second to none. Some people simply understand hospitality, and Sza is certainly one of them. Staff such as Sza and Tory are tremendous ambassadors for Sangeli and deserve recognition. We also visited The Rock Bar, which was a pleasant experience in a lovely setting. Unfortunately, the persistent cloud cover meant we never really experienced the spectacular sunset atmosphere for which locations like this are designed. Nevertheless, I suspect that on a clear evening, with the sun setting over the Indian Ocean, it would be one of the highlights of the resort. One aspect we found particularly disappointing was the evening entertainment. The DJ generally played music from the 1980s, which, being of a certain age, was absolutely right up my street! Unfortunately, the live entertainment was rather less enjoyable. A guitarist accompanied by a female singer performed a selection of well-known songs, some of which were, in our opinion, rather badly murdered! Music is obviously subjective, but the performances simply weren't to our taste. The volume was another issue. When poor weather forced guests indoors, the music was often overpowering, making conversation difficult and creating an atmosphere that was anything but relaxing. Friday evening featured traditional Maldivian drumming accompanied by vocal performances that I can only describe as prolonged wailing. I appreciate the cultural significance and that other guests may have enjoyed it, but it certainly wasn't for us. For a resort in such beautiful surroundings, I would have preferred more relaxed and sophisticated evening entertainment, particularly when the weather restricted other activities. While most of our interactions with staff were positive, we experienced several situations where relatively simple requests became unnecessarily difficult. Obtaining basic items such as Coke Zero and full-fat milk for our villa proved more challenging than expected. Hardly extravagant requests at a premium all-inclusive resort! However, one incident at Just Grill perhaps best illustrated the inconsistency. Having spent the day relaxing around One Banyan, we decided to have lunch. As our poolside table had no umbrella or shade, we were kindly invited inside Just Grill and told we could order from the bar menu. An excellent example of accommodating guests, or so we thought. I ordered pasta and subsequently asked for a slice of bread to accompany my meal. The response was an unequivocal "No." Apparently, because we were ordering from the bar menu rather than the Just Grill restaurant menu, bread couldn't be provided. I genuinely thought there must have been a misunderstanding. I wasn't requesting another meal or anything particularly unusual. Simply a slice of bread with pasta! Nevertheless, the answer remained no. Apparently, I could travel across the island to The Courtyard, where bread was readily available, but couldn't have it where we were sitting. Even other guests nearby appeared surprised. Now, I fully appreciate that complaining about a slice of bread while holidaying in the Maldives might sound like the ultimate first-world problem! But the issue was never really about the bread. It was about the approach to customer service. At a five-star resort, surely there should be sufficient flexibility and common sense to accommodate such a straightforward request? What made this particularly frustrating was the contrast with the exceptional service demonstrated by other employees, particularly those at The Courtyard. However, in the interests of providing a balanced review, I also want to recognise the response from Sangeli's management team when these concerns were raised. Rather than attempting to justify the situation, hide behind policies or dismiss the concerns, management acknowledged the mistakes, offered a genuine apology and took accountability for what had happened. I found this particularly refreshing. Having spent much of my professional career involved in operational leadership and service delivery, I appreciate that mistakes happen, even within the best organisations. For me, the true measure of an organisation isn't whether everything goes perfectly every time, but how it responds when things go wrong. On this occasion, Sangeli's management demonstrated the right attitude. They listened, recognised that the service had fallen short and accepted responsibility without unnecessary excuses. It would be unfair to highlight the original shortcomings without recognising the professional and positive way they were subsequently handled. Their response went a considerable way towards restoring our confidence in the resort's commitment to guest satisfaction. One of the genuine highlights of our stay was the spa. Our package included three complimentary treatments, and the experience exceeded expectations. My first treatment was a jet lag massage, which was so relaxing that I actually fell asleep! Having enjoyed it so much, I subsequently upgraded my remaining appointments to full-body massages. The therapists were friendly, professional and extremely skilled. The entire experience was relaxing, unhurried and delivered to an exceptionally high standard. The spa team deserve considerable credit, and I would thoroughly recommend making use of the facilities. For me, the spa was a genuine five-star experience. Another positive worth mentioning was the excellent buggy service. Although Sangeli isn't a particularly large island, walking in the humidity can be unpleasant. The buggies can be tracked through the resort's app and requested from villas or bars. We found the service extremely efficient, with friendly drivers and prompt collection times. It might sound lazy using a buggy to travel relatively short distances, but in the Maldivian heat and humidity, it was a very welcome convenience! Reflecting on our stay, Sangeli has an enormous amount going for it. The island is beautiful, the beaches are excellent, the snorkelling is easily accessible, and our villa provided a comfortable and relaxing base. The adults-only One Banyan area was particularly enjoyable, offering a peaceful alternative to the busier family-oriented pool. The food, especially breakfast and lunch, was generally very good, while the spa was outstanding. There are also some genuinely exceptional employees who clearly take pride in looking after their guests. Special recognition must go to Sza, Tory and the spa team, while housekeeping and the buggy drivers also contributed positively to our experience. However, there are areas where Sangeli could improve. The somewhat disorganised arrival, heavily shaded private pool, unreliable internet, disappointing evening entertainment and occasional inconsistencies in service all suggest that the overall experience doesn't always match the resort's five-star aspirations. None of these issues individually ruined our holiday, and it would be unfair to suggest otherwise. Collectively, however, they highlight the difference between a very good resort and a truly exceptional one. What deserves particular recognition is the management team's response when concerns were raised. Their willingness to listen, apologise and take accountability demonstrated the right approach to customer service. Luxury hospitality isn't simply about beautiful surroundings, comfortable accommodation or an impressive all-inclusive offering. It's about making guests feel valued, responding positively to reasonable requests and delivering consistent service throughout the resort. Would we recommend Sangeli? Yes, particularly for couples seeking a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. We would strongly recommend One Banyan for those preferring a quieter atmosphere, while the main pool around Sangs Bar appeared well suited to families. The Beach Villas are comfortable, although I would consider the amount of shade around private pools when choosing accommodation. The spa is exceptional, and The Rock Bar is certainly worth visiting if you're fortunate enough to enjoy clear skies around sunset. Guests travelling during the wetter months should be aware that unreliable internet and limited indoor entertainment options can make prolonged periods of poor weather frustrating. Would we return? Yes, we would certainly consider it, particularly having experienced the positive approach taken by management when our concerns were raised. Ultimately, Sangeli has all the ingredients to provide an outstanding Maldivian holiday. With greater consistency, attention to detail and improvements to its entertainment and facilities, it could be even better. Sometimes the difference between a good holiday and an exceptional one is found in the smallest details. That might mean a warm welcome on arrival, reliable internet during poor weather, a private pool receiving sufficient sunlight or entertainment that complements the beautiful surroundings. And sometimes, quite simply, it means being able to provide a slice of bread with a plate of pasta without making it unnecessarily complicated! But perhaps most importantly, it means having a management team that listens when something goes wrong and is prepared to take responsibility. On that measure, Sangeli responded extremely well. Overall, a very enjoyable Maldivian holiday, with beautiful surroundings, exceptional staff, a superb spa and some genuinely five-star experiences. A few frustrating inconsistencies prevent us from awarding the full five stars, but the positive and accountable response from management deserves recognition. Read less
