The hotel

Non-motorised water sports are included for 15 minutes a day, as is use of the over-water gym, so those who like to keep active will have lots to enjoy. This is a fun, lively island with lots going on including the daily DJ around the pool and live bands in the evening, but if you fancy making your stay even more special, why not head underneath it? A trip to Only BLU, the underwater restaurant, is an absolute must for a meal that you'll never forget.

Where is it

Located on Ailafushi Island in Male Atoll, and connected to the neighbouring island OBLU SELECT Lobigili by a 270m long jetty. Complimentary speedboat transfer from Velana International Airport on arrival and departure, taking approximately 15 minutes.

Hotel information

268 rooms, all with ocean views, in-villa WiFi access, safe, large flat screen LCD TV, cable TV, vanity, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, drinking water bottles, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and robe and slippers. Ocean View Rooms are snug, homey, duplex-style one-bedroom villas, smartly designed to maximise space and comfort, and with a veranda with comfy daybed. With 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Beach Villas are just a few steps from the beach, with a private outdoor veranda and garden, inviting interior, walk-in wardrobe leading to a spa-like bathroom, double vanity, and a semi open-air bathroom. With 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Water Villas stretch into the dazzling lagoon, and are accessed by wooden jetty. Each water villa is shaped like a traditional Maldivian Boat – a ‘dhoni’ – creating a feeling of a romantic hideaway. With a private deck, and a staircase into the water, and a semi open-air bathroom. 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Ocean Family Two Bedrooms are the same as the Ocean View Rooms, with the addition of a second bedroom with bunkbeds in a story book theme for children, 2 bathrooms, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 2 children.

We would especially like to recognize Solah, who took care of our room throughout our 10-day stay. He did an outstanding job every single day—our room was always spotless, beautifully prepared, and he was consistently kind, friendly, and professional. On our last day, he surprised us with a beautiful “Happy Honeymoon” decoration on our bed, which was such a thoughtful gesture and the perfect way to end our stay. I want to share my experience with OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi so other travellers are aware of the refund issues I faced. I booked this hotel through Booking.com on 18 February, with a 100% refundable reservation for a stay in April. The hotel requested a 25% prepayment, also fully refundable in case of cancellation. I paid this amount on 25 February, and the property confirmed receiving it. Unfortunately, on 19 March, I had to cancel my trip because my flights were cancelled. I immediately contacted the hotel, and they confirmed that my refund was “in process” and could take up to 28 days. That deadline passed with no refund. •⁠ ⁠16 April: I contacted them again. They said refunds were delayed due to Ramadan and “the current global situation,” mentioning a 30‑day backlog. •⁠ ⁠26 April: Still nothing. I reached out again and was simply asked to “be patient.” •⁠ ⁠12 May: Another follow‑up. This time they blamed their banking partners, even though their social media showed the hotel operating normally. •⁠ ⁠12 June: I emailed several addresses asking for help. The next day they replied saying the matter had been “escalated to Finance” and that the refund had already been processed. No proof, no follow‑up, and still no refund. In the end, I only received my money back because my credit card provider intervened through a chargeback. The refund did not come from OBLU. I sent them a final email informing them of this, and they never replied. Conclusion The hotel may be beautiful, but travellers should be aware that refunds are not handled reliably, and communication is inconsistent. If you book a refundable rate or pay a deposit, be prepared for significant delays and to potentially rely on your bank or credit card company to recover your money. Read less

I really enjoyed the time here. The hotel is beautiful and the location was very close to Male, so we were there very quick from the airport. When we arrived everyone was so nice and they showed us the entire hotel. I need to mention the animation team. They made very good atmosphere here and the pool parties were amazing. But all the staff was very kind and helpful to us. We had the water villa and it was amazing, very private and cozy. The room was everyday clean and Solah was so helpful and nice to us. I have nothing to complain about the cleaning, everything is really perfect. Since we lived the furthest away, we only ever heard the sea and it was beautiful. Just peace and relax. I really recommend this hotel, it’s really worth it. I hope that I’ll be back soon. Read less
