The hotel

Embrace island life at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, a lively retreat driven by smart services, playful design, and incredible experiences. You'll arrive in style with a complimentary speedboat transfer, and as soon as you reach the island of Ailafushi, you're sure to feel relaxed - after all, you'll be surrounded by stunning sea views, soft warm sands, and plenty of Maldivian charm! On the Fushi PlanTM, you'll enjoy delicious meals from Element X's impressive show kitchens and expansive buffet, before heading to X360 for a refreshing drink to accompany the entertainment of the night. Non-motorised water sports are included for 15 minutes a day, as is use of the over-water gym, so those who like to keep active will have lots to enjoy. This is a fun, lively island with lots going on including the daily DJ around the pool and live bands in the evening, but if you fancy making your stay even more special, why not head underneath it? A trip to Only BLU, the underwater restaurant, is an absolute must for a meal that you'll never forget.

Where is it

Located on Ailafushi Island in Male Atoll, and connected to the neighbouring island OBLU SELECT Lobigili by a 270m long jetty. Complimentary speedboat transfer from Velana International Airport on arrival and departure, taking approximately 15 minutes.

268 rooms, all with ocean views, in-villa WiFi access, safe, large flat screen LCD TV, cable TV, vanity, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, drinking water bottles, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and robe and slippers. Ocean View Rooms are snug, homey, duplex-style one-bedroom villas, smartly designed to maximise space and comfort, and with a veranda with comfy daybed. Beach Villas are just a few steps from the beach, with a private outdoor veranda and garden, inviting interior, walk-in wardrobe leading to a spa-like bathroom, double vanity, and a semi open-air bathroom. With 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Water Villas stretch into the dazzling lagoon, and are accessed by wooden jetty. Each water villa is shaped like a traditional Maldivian Boat – a ‘dhoni’ – creating a feeling of a romantic hideaway. With a private deck, and a staircase into the water, and a semi open-air bathroom. 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Ocean Family Two Bedrooms are the same as the Ocean View Rooms, with the addition of a second bedroom with bunkbeds in a story book theme for children, 2 bathrooms, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 2 children.

Element X (all-day dining, self-assisted buffet with international cuisine and show kitchens). X360 (main pool bar with scenic lagoon views, daily evening entertainment). The Copper Pot Food Truck (food truck with seafood and meat grills, open for dinner)*. Only BLU (under ocean restaurant open for lunch and dinner. Adult-only except for select lunchtimes when children are welcomed to dine)*.

There is absolutely nothing I can fault with our stay at OBLU Xperience AILAFUSHI!! From the moment we were welcomed off the boat to our first interaction with our welcome guide and then our room attendant HARDIK! The service was 2nd to none! Throughout our time here we took part in a couple of the water experiences (snorkeling with turtles and manta rays) where staff there were very professional and welcoming! We used the gym every day! You were always greeted with a friendly and qualified personal trainer who was always happy to help out in any way! The food quality and variety at ELEMENTX restaurant was amazing! With a mix between western, Asian and Indian cuisines! There was truly something for everyone! We managed to meet the GM of the entire island who was an absolute vibe! Just a real nice cool cat! And of course the island itself! Everything is maintained and kept clean to the highest standards I could’ve ever imagined! Workers are up at the crack of dawn raking all the walkways and roads clear of any fallen leaves and to make the sand look all nice! To every part of every building always kept clean throughout the day and nights! Just returned from our extended stay at the Oblu Experience - extended by 7 days as a consequence of the Gulf issues. Heartfelt thanks to Rasheed for his calmness at anxious times caused by the situation. The Oblu is a lovely resort hotel - large enough to provide upbeat atmosphere but small enough to provide the quiet and peaceful beaches associated with the Maldives. Well maintained throughout including the beaches, lanes and walkways, Our holiday started as planned in a Beach Villa on the sunset side of the island. Comfortable Villa with opportunity to watch amazing sunsets directly from ‘our’ beach. Not the best swimming beach owing to the sea grass but interesting to snorkel over and clear sand is close by at each end of the beach. Gorgeous blue seas, brilliant white sand. Large buffet restaurant divided into sections so rarely felt too busy. Food in our opinion varied and excellent. Even over two weeks we found ourselves able to make choices from a range of delicious food. Fresh and well cooked. No birds or flies around the dining areas as often found elsewhere. Breakfasts great and covering cultural tastes of us all. Only negative is the extremely high cost of the undersea restaurant, sufficient for us to give it a miss at $322 a couple + wine. All inclusive providing high quality drinks both alcoholic and soft. Plentiful and readily available including mini bar in villas. Bar staff friendly and extremely hard working. Smiles and greetings from all staff wherever you meet; a credit to Oblu and the Maldives. Second week through force of circumstances was in an upper, Ocean View duplex room. That was lovely too in its appointment with fabulous views of Malé on the distant horizon. Appreciate that is not the view many would want coming to the Maldives but in reality Malé is very much part of the Maldives. We chose Oblu because of its relatively short connectivity to Velana airport by speedboat rather than adding additional journey time after travelling from UK. Safe, sandy beaches out side the Ocean Views, best located Ocean Views on the sunset side. So safely home now with long haul redefined by the sad world we all live in. Again grateful thanks to Oblu Experience for your warm hospitality and a truly lovely, fun vacation; relaxed and chilled out most of the time! Read less
