Ozen life Maadhoo is a high quality resort in the South Malé atoll an is approximately 45 minutes by boat from the airport. Arriving at the airport we were taken to the Ozen lounge while we waited for our boat. After a short while we were taken to the quayside and on to our boat.
Now the Ozen boat in comparison to the normal hotel boats was in a different class. It was quiet and despite the rough weather it was really comfortable.
As normal we were offered life jackets and onboard snacks. The saloon section was separate from the crew and was well appointed with air conditioning and WiFi available.
On arriving at Ozen we were met by the GM, the Hotel manager, our Butler all in wet weather gear and it was a horrible morning but there they were getting wet but greeting us.
A short walk to reception where you can have a foot massage whilst going through the formalities. We met Ayush Jain our “ butler” but more of our organiser. He sorted everything. We had no worries as where we were going to be at any time. Also he upgraded our room! Result!
Once we had registered it was off to the buggy for a tour of the island. Now having been used to small islands Ozen seemed rather large for my liking but it did grow on me.
Back to the room! We had 102 just across from the reception and it didn’t disappoint. So there is a huge four poster bed, large television, fridge, mini bar and tea and coffee machine. Now I do not do posh coffee but mentioned it to Ayush and sufficient instant coffee was supplied within a short space of time. Behind the bed is the bathroom with his and hers sinks an array of guest amenities such as combs, shaving kit etc. There is plenty of storage and the obligatory safe. Ozen have there own slippers and flip flops . Equally there are wet weather coats and umbrellas. Outside there is a large covered shower with again supplied shower gel, shampoo and a conditioner.
Moving outside there is a deck with table a chair and lounger and in the garden you have a large parasol and loungers and bean bags all within a short stroll to the ocean.
So wandering around the resort you will have 5 restaurants and Ayush had booked us in to all of them!
The Palms the main restaurant for your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Now at breakfast there is a huge selection of juices, pastries, and a board showing what you can order way too much to list! If you haven’t tried Dim Sum its also available.
We met Bram on our 1st visit and he continued to greet us almost every day and genuinely wanted to know how our break was going. Chefs Jana and Ramesh were always on hand and so keen to cook an individual meal for us.
Reef fish and prawns were so fresh it was a delight.
The Peking restaurant and the Indo-Ceylon restaurant are overwater restaurants and are really what they do is what the names state. The fare is flavourful, the choice is good and will leave you satisfied.
The Lonu restaurant is the Maldivian restaurant opened at lunchtime only and you are taken through a journey of food. Each dish is explained to you and we had Tiff who gave us a history lesson of the food. It was great to listen to her and her 1st hand account of what were going to taste.
Saving the best to last it has to be M6M, minus 6 metres, one of only 6 underwater restaurants in the Maldives. There is nothing to compare this restaurant to any other. To be underwater watching marine life swim by whilst eating gorgeous food is out of this world. We were invited back during the daytime see the aquatic life and again we were not disappointed.
Access to the restaurant is via a lift but if you’re like me and hate lifts there is a circular staircase.
The Joie de Vivre is the main bar area and some! As you walk in there is an array of beds, chairs and a DJ and if you want to just sit in the bar area there are plenty of chairs. Outside there are beds where you can watch the sunsets.
Now earlier I mentioned that the island was too big for me but honestly I enjoyed every moment. In the inclement moments I nipped off to the gym and it was one of the best if not the best appointed gym I have been in and there are personal trainers available. If the gym is not for you then there are bikes dedicated to your room to enjoy.
Every member of staff we met on the island wants to know if you’re enjoying your break and it does come across as genuine. So at the end of our week it was a wrench to leave but it would be wrong not to mention staff that went more out of their way to make this break memorable.
