We had an amazing time at Sandals Dunn's River. The staff were all very kind and helpful, and they went above and beyond to ensure that we had the best experience. The house-cleaning crew, especially Shelly Ann and Tericia were there to ensure that our room was always clean. Please promote Shelly Ann. I do not have enough words to express how much her help was appreciated. She is all about guest satisfaction, and she does it with a smile. My husband and I had breakfast at Saltaire and let's just say it was all because of Anneka. The best cook with the best omelets. We loved the Jerk Shack for lunch. The staff there is also very kind and helpful, but the young lady that also works at Zuka, I cannot speak enough on her kindness and the level of service she provided. She kept us informed on the daily specials and every else. We spent our evenings/nights at the Rum Club. Gabrielle makes the best Pain Killers - ask him to make you one and you will see. Ricardo from water sports. His smile tells you all you need to know about how much he enjoys his job. The entertainment crew is absolutely the best. They kept us entertained and engaged from the nightly shows, pool volleyball, and the beach party. Connie, you are fabulous! Jhoniel, the fabulous butterfly has the voice of an angel! The entire entertainment staff is top tier, special shout out to Tiana, Omanda, Akeem, Novia, and Ziane. However, all of this would not be possible without your guidance and leadership, Mr. Clarke. If you don't know the difference between a Ramada Inn and a Rosewood, Sandals Dunn's River may work out beautifully for you. After a dozen Sandals stays, I think we are finally done with Sandals. Sandal's Dunn's River is one of their nicest resorts, but only because it is one of their newest one's--along with Sandals St. Vincent. The grounds and property are truly lovely. However, service is horrible (Think of a poorly run economy hotel that is pretending to be more than it is). If everything is going well, you have no issues, but if a hiccup occurs, service recovery is not something they can handle, despite having an extremely top heavy management structure. Some of the staff are quite effective, but others act as if you work for them. Although, they all sing the company line when pressed. They are very much conditioned to always stress that any hiccup is not typical for Sandals, as they are a luxury resort. I've seen this time and time again at every Sandals we've stayed at. I guess if you continue to tell guests that you are a luxury resort, some actually believe it. We were in the Mammee Bay building overlooking the RIU. The RIU, BTW, has a lovely beach and activities that go on all day for 1/3 of what we paid for at Sandals. Yes, we have stayed at several RIU's previously. Our room was well furnished and decorated. Sandals is finally getting it right with knick-knacks in the room. However, cleanliness and neglect was starting to show. Again, this resort is only three years old. It too will be run into the ground like most other Sandals in due time. Dining is typical Sandals--decent, but nothing amazing. It's comparable to typical middle-of-the road chain restaurants. Of course, some of the clientele wouldn't know the difference. In typical Sandals fashion, we saw our share of individuals wearing baseball caps to dinner. Yep, that's Sandals target market. We took advantage of SCUBA diving, and I must say that Sandals loves to cancel dives. There is no incentive for them not to. During a couple of days when dives were cancelled, we noticed that the Scuba Caribe dive boat (At the RIU) went out. The dives are also really short with Sandals compared to private dive shops. It's barely worth getting wet. Those who rave about Sandals likely drank the Sandals Kool-Aid, and truly believe the extremely heavy Sandals advertising and marketing. Experienced travelers know what Sandals is all about. Sandals does an OK job, but are grossly overpriced for what they deliver. Although, someone has to pay for all that advertising, business development managers in nearly every state, private jets for the Sandals executives, and some of the highest travel agent incentives in the industry. Remember, Sandals only has 19 resorts. Read less
