We stayed at Sandals Dunn’s River from July 21–August 1, 2026, and this was our seventh Sandals vacation and fifth trip to Jamaica. We have loved every Sandals vacation for different reasons, but Dunn’s River was a step above for us. In fact, this is the first time we have ever booked the same Sandals resort back-to-back—we have already rebooked the same room for next year. And the biggest reason is the people. Overall Impression: Jamaica has always held a special place in our hearts because of the warmth and welcoming nature of the Jamaican people, but something felt different from the moment we arrived at Dunn’s River. After our first Sandals trip, we began using the private transfer through Island Routes, which we highly recommend. Upon arriving at the resort, we expected the usual warm Sandals greeting and cool towel. Instead, the staff welcomed us with a song! We had seen this done for the larger groups arriving by bus but had never experienced it ourselves. It was such a small thing, but it immediately made us feel as though they were genuinely happy we were there. That feeling continued throughout our 12-day stay. Frequent travelers know that it often isn't one grand gesture that makes a vacation exceptional. It's dozens of small things accumulated over the course of the trip. Dunn’s River got the small things right. Our Room & The Property: We stayed in TSKY room 3408, an ocean view room with a pool on the balcony. It was a wonderful retreat with a fantastic view. We tend to choose our Sandals room based on the room itself rather than the service category, and the rooms with the views, balconies, space and amenities we prefer often happen to be butler-level. We value having somewhere private and peaceful to retreat when we want a little downtime away from everyone, and this room provided exactly that. One practical note for those of us who completely unpack our suitcases: there isn't much drawer space. The closet has shelves and plenty of hanging space, with a drawer on either side of the bed, but no traditional dresser. Labeled packing cubes and a separate bag for soiled laundry worked wonderfully for us and kept everything organized without having our belongings spread throughout the closet. Housekeeping was on point. Our room was consistently clean and well stocked, and on the occasions we crossed paths with members of the housekeeping team, they were incredibly kind and thoughtful. The resort itself is just the right size for us—small enough that you can get anywhere quickly without ever feeling cramped. It's easy to navigate, and the grounds are beautiful. A word about grounds keeping: maintaining a tropical property at this level is clearly a 24/7 job. I've seen complaints about mowing, weed-eating or leaf blowing occurring while guests are trying to relax. I understand the frustration, but there probably isn't a time they could do these things that would suit everyone. The same work that might temporarily interrupt one person's quiet time is also what keeps the resort looking picture-perfect. A little grace goes a long way. Chair availability is another hot topic in the Sandals Facebook groups. Because we had butler service, our chairs were reserved for us, with the very reasonable expectation that we claim them before 10 a.m. or they could be released. However, during our 12 days, we never saw a situation where someone simply couldn't find a chair. Front-row locations might be taken, but seating remained available. We also watched staff move umbrellas and chairs when guests needed shade. If you don't see exactly what you need, ask. We found the staff genuinely wanted to help. Our Butlers — Nicholas & Akeem: Nicholas and Akeem were exceptional. We're probably unusual butler guests because we don't utilize our butlers nearly as much as we could. We generally stick to restaurant reservations, beach/pool chair setup and an occasional lunch request. What made Nicholas and Akeem so special was how quickly they figured us out. They never pushed. Instead, they learned our preferences and gently introduced us to things they thought we might enjoy. They'd tell us about activities like pottery, jewelry making or candle making, give us time to think about it, and follow up later. They noticed our favorite snacks, meals and drinks and would unexpectedly appear with them. They also brought us different drinks to try, helping expand our "drink journey" throughout the vacation. Nicholas and Akeem each brought their own personality and style to the experience, and we came to appreciate them both for exactly who they are. They shared pieces of themselves and their lives with us, and always seemed genuinely happy to stop and chat. Through those conversations, we discovered a shared love of different Caribbean music and learned about local events we could experience on our next visit—something that ultimately helped inspire our plans for next year. Somewhere along the way, though, the experience changed. It stopped feeling like our butlers were stopping by to make sure we had everything we needed and started feeling like friends were dropping by for a quick chat and to see what we were doing next. That distinction meant a lot to us. They each have their own vibe, and each made our vacation special in his own way. Together, Nicholas and Akeem gave us the most memorable butler experience we've had at Sandals. We also noticed something at Dunn’s River that differed from some of our previous Sandals experiences: the warmth wasn't limited to our butlers. At Hanami one evening, we saw butler Iran delivering interesting-looking shots to his guests. My husband casually asked what they were. Iran not only explained the drink—he went to the bar and brought one back for each of us to try. He didn't have to do that. We weren't his guests. But from then on, whenever we crossed paths around the resort, there was an acknowledgment, a quick conversation and a "How are things going?" A connection existed that otherwise never would have. Similarly, Randy stopped at our table one evening at Banyu because he noticed we'd had our menus for a while and was concerned that perhaps no one had waited on us. In reality, we were just having trouble deciding between revisiting favorites and trying something new! Randy chatted with us and offered some excellent recommendations. Those spontaneous, unprompted interactions say a lot about the service culture at Dunn’s River. Food & Restaurants: We tried every restaurant on the property. For dinner, our favorite was Banyu, followed very closely by Hanami and then Cascata. Edessa was perfectly fine; the menu simply wasn't as much to our personal tastes. Our least favorite meal was at L'Amande, where both of our entrées were unfortunately too salty for us to finish. That said, the appetizers and dessert were very good, so we certainly didn't leave hungry! We didn't mention the entrées at the time because, quite honestly, after everything else we'd eaten, neither of us could have managed another entrée anyway. The service throughout the meal was still excellent. At Banyu, Tonishae deserves special recognition. His infectious smile immediately stood out, as did the care he took double-checking orders and making recommendations. He was warm, welcoming and attentive, and you genuinely got the sense that he wanted everyone leaving his tables full and happy. For breakfast, we tried Edessa's à la carte option but preferred the buffet at Saltaire. The buffet may be smaller than some breakfast buffets we've experienced at other Sandals properties, but we never found it lacking. There wasn't anything we found ourselves wishing they had. On excursion mornings or days when we wanted something lighter, Blum became a favorite. Sitting on the shaded, flower-filled patio with an excellent coffee and some light fare was one of those simple pleasures we looked forward to. It is such a peaceful little spot. There are plenty of Jamaican food options as well. We enjoyed the Jamaican selections at breakfast and lunch, the Jerk Shack was exceptional as always, Galene's fish wrap was a hit, and the jerk chicken pizza at Isola became another favorite. And then there were the beef patties. Our butlers quickly discovered how much we loved them and started bringing us one each around midday. At some point I joked with my husband that I had become the unofficial "beef patty representative" for the resort. They're located near Galene and can be easy to overlook. Other guests would walk by our loungers, see what we were eating and ask about them. I'd give them my beef-patty sales pitch, and off they'd go to try one. Don't overlook them! The Dunn's Rum Club was another favorite—unique drinks, fun appetizers/small plates and great staff. Which brings me to Omar T. Early in the vacation, after perhaps enjoying some of the resort's beverages a little too enthusiastically, I asked Omar for something different: light, not too sweet and not overly alcohol-forward. He created what he called the "OT Special." It quickly became my favorite drink of the entire trip. It clearly wasn't a simple, two-ingredient drink or particularly quick to make, but every time we arrived at a bar Omar was working, he happily made me another OT Special. My only regret from the entire vacation may be leaving Jamaica without getting his recipe! Playmakers, Entertainment & Activities: The entertainment team at Dunn’s River was fantastic. The nightly shows were fun, but we particularly enjoyed the Playmakers interacting with guests before the shows began. Hennessey (from the Top Shelf!), Omanda, Shavia, Conrad and Tiana were the Playmakers we interacted with most. Hennessey is a fantastic host with a way of making you feel like you're "in on the joke" even when you aren't quite sure you are. Conrad’s playful personality and larger-than-life energy are contagious. He has a way of making you want to jump into the fun instead of watching from the sidelines—which is no small accomplishment with two introverts like us! Tiana is an absolute sweetheart who makes sure you're included and aren't missing out. We became especially close with Omanda and Shavia, even having the pleasure of sharing breakfast with them one morning and getting to know them better. We had actually met Shavia the previous year at Sandals South Coast, where she had already made an impression as a wonderful Playmaker. Imagine our surprise and delight at seeing her again at Dunn’s River! And Omanda...some people you just click with. I couldn't tell you the exact moment it happened. It evolved naturally through pool games, activities and stopping to chat with each other throughout the days and evenings. She encouraged us to attend things we normally would have skipped, always promising we'd have a good time—and she was never wrong. Without Omanda and Shavia encouraging us to step outside our normal vacation routine, we would have missed some of our favorite memories. The pottery, jewelry and candle-making activities were a HUGE plus for us. We're not crafty people. At pottery, we were genuinely concerned our "pot" might still be a lump of clay when the hour ended! But the experts Sandals brings in make it nearly impossible to fail. We walked away ridiculously proud of our little pot, and that hour became one of the highlights of the trip. Then came jewelry making. I'll admit I may have gotten a little side-eye from my husband when I agreed to Omanda's suggestion that we go. But he ended up enjoying it just as much as I did, and we're both proud of what we made. Same with candle making. These activities are generally around an hour, which feels perfect. They're long enough to have an experience together without consuming half your vacation, and you leave with a tangible keepsake attached to the memory. We would have participated in even more if some hadn't conflicted with excursions. One Opportunity to Make a Great Experience Even Better: If there is one area where I think Dunn’s River has an opportunity, it's the music—not because the entertainment team isn't wonderful, but because we'd love to hear the location reflected more in the soundtrack of the vacation. Music around the pools seemed to lean heavily toward current U.S. hits. We'd love a wider variety, particularly more Jamaican and Caribbean music mixed throughout the day. The silent-headphone party seems like an especially great opportunity. Two DJs are already playing and guests can switch channels depending on which music they prefer, but the selections seemed fairly similar and leaned toward familiar U.S. music from the past few decades. Why not keep that popular music on one channel and let the other DJ take us to the Caribbean—Dancehall, SOCA, reggae and other regional music? Dunn’s River already offers SOCA dance classes. How much fun would it be for the Playmakers to bring some of those moves into the headphone party and give guests a chance to use what they've learned? It might even encourage people who hadn't attended the class to give it a try later. The same idea could extend to additional culturally focused activities—a Jamaican cooking demonstration, learning how local plants and herbs are traditionally used, or other experiences that help guests learn more about the island they're visiting. Some of the most meaningful moments of our vacation came from learning about Jamaica through the people who live there. We'd simply love even more opportunities for Sandals to facilitate those connections. Final Thoughts — We're Coming Back: This was our seventh Sandals vacation, fifth trip to Jamaica, and the first time we have ever chosen to return to the same Sandals resort the very next year. We've already rebooked Dunn’s River—and the TSKY—for next year. More importantly, we timed our return so we can experience a few local events next year. Before leaving, we exchanged social-media information with some of the wonderful people we'd met so we could stay connected and start planning our next adventure together. For the first time on a Sandals vacation, leaving genuinely felt like leaving friends and new family behind. Sandals Dunn’s River is easily our favorite Sandals property in Jamaica. We've also visited Sandals properties on other islands, but I don't think it's fair or particularly useful to rank Jamaica against St. Lucia or Antigua (the others we visited). They're different countries, cultures and experiences, and each deserves to be appreciated for what it offers. If I could offer one piece of advice to someone visiting Dunn’s River, it would be this: Be open to the experience. Talk to the staff. Get to know them as people. Try something you wouldn't normally do. Take the pottery class even if you aren't crafty. Go make the jewelry together, even if your partner gives you the side-eye. Ask what someone's drinking (or eating) if it looks interesting. Listen when a Playmaker tells you, "Trust me, you'll have fun." And try the beef patties! Also, let the truly small things be small. No vacation is going to be absolutely perfect, and expecting perfection can make it easy to miss everything that is wonderful. Decide what genuinely matters to you. If something isn't meeting your expectations, speak up and give the staff an opportunity to make it right. For us, the people of Dunn’s River transformed a wonderful Jamaican vacation into something much more meaningful. Nicholas, Akeem, Iran, Randy, Tonishae, Omar T., Hennessey, Omanda, Shavia, Conrad and Tiana—thank you. You each contributed something different to our vacation, and collectively you gave us an experience we won't ever forget. We'll see you next year. And Omar...please have that OT Special recipe ready! Read less

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Unforgettable Birthday & Wedding Anniversary at Sandals Dunn’s River! Our stay at Sandals Dunn’s River was truly nothing short of incredible. We came to Jamaica to celebrate two very special occasions—my birthday and our wedding anniversary—and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. From the beautiful resort and amazing atmosphere to the exceptional service, this was a trip we will remember for the rest of our lives. What really made our stay unforgettable, though, were the incredible people. Keyron, Jhonel, Tiana, Sheldon, Hakeem, and Amanda each went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed, celebrated, and genuinely cared for. Keyron was absolutely fantastic and made us feel like VIPs. His warmth, attention to detail, and genuine desire to make sure we were enjoying ourselves made such a difference. Jhonel brought such great energy and hospitality. Every interaction felt personal, and he helped make our celebration feel even more special. Tiana was wonderful—kind, attentive, and incredibly welcoming. She made us feel at home from the moment we met her. Sheldon provided outstanding service and always seemed to know exactly what was needed to make our experience better. His professionalism and personality really stood out. Hakeem was another highlight of our trip. His friendliness, positive energy, and attention to us throughout our stay helped turn an already beautiful vacation into an exceptional one. And Amanda was amazing. Her kindness and thoughtfulness meant so much to us, especially while celebrating such important milestones together. The resort itself is absolutely gorgeous—the scenery, pools, restaurants, drinks, entertainment, and overall atmosphere were incredible. But what separates Sandals Dunn’s River from other beautiful resorts is the people. The staff didn’t simply provide great service; they made us feel like our birthday and anniversary genuinely mattered to them. We arrived expecting a wonderful vacation and left with memories we will cherish forever. Thank you, Sandals Dunn’s River, and a very special thank you to Keyron, Jhonel, Tiana, Sheldon, Hakeem, and Amanda. You made our birthday and wedding anniversary celebration absolutely unforgettable. We cannot wait to come back. ❤️🇯🇲 10/10 experience. Five stars simply aren’t enough! Read less

We just returned home from our wonderful vacation at Sandals, Dunn’s River, Jamaica. It was our second time at Duns River resort, and it was absolutely worth it! In our opinion, overall rating of our experience at Sandals, Dunn’s River is 5 out of 5! We really enjoyed it. Here are some details in different categories. 1. Transportation from and to airport: 5 out of 5. Sandals’ lounge at Montego Bay airport is really welcoming and cozy, so your wait for the shuttle is very comfortable. The bus ride was smooth and relaxing, even though it took about 2+ hours to get to the resort. They do make a stop in the middle of the way. 2. The property and landscaping: 5 out of 5. Everything is so beautiful, makes you feel like you are in paradise from the first minute you enter the resort. And the property is arranged perfectly well – everything is very close to each other: room buildings, pools, bars, restaurants, entertainments stage. 3. Beach: 4 out of 5. Nice, small, clean beach, nothing too special, but we enjoyed the water, the sand, little walks along the beach and our lunches there 4. Pools: 5 out of 5. The resort has two heated pools, they are so close to each other that mostly look like one. Both pools are heated and open and night, which makes it perfect for evening relaxation. Each pool has hot tub, which is very nice in the evening and at night. One pool has a swim-up bar. Both pools are more on the quiet side compared to other resorts we’ve been to, which was fine with us, but may disappoint people who expect more vibe there. 5. The room: 5 out of 5. We always adjust our expectations to the level of the room we book. We had club-level ocean-view room, and it didn’t disappoint. All was clean, neat and in working conditions. Need to mention that AC worked perfectly well, it was important since the weather was quite hot during our stay. 6. Staff and service: 6 out of 5! We loved everything and everybody: from housekeeping to management, from bartenders to entertainers and some restaurant chefs we got to meet. Everybody was so friendly, helpful, positive, these people made us feel really special! 7. Food and drinks: 5 out of 5. Food quality was good for all-inclusive resort. We liked our breakfasts at both buffet and Edessa restaurant, lunches on the beach at Jerk Shack and Galene, dinners at Cascata, Hanami, L’Amande, Edessa. Selection of wines and beers was rather standard, but the do offer more sophisticated wines for additional charge in case you want more variety. We really liked creativity of all the bartenders who always tried to surprise us with new drinks and cocktails to try. As usual, returning guests’ dinner was perfect! 8. Entertainment: 4 out of 5. Some shows were better than others. Our favorites were: rum tasting, fire show, illusionist, acrobatics. We really liked Conrad from their entertainment team: he was adding unique flavor to all activities he was part of. 9. There are couple of very nice bars there which seem to be undervalued and underused. The resort has very nice rooftop bar with its premium location and very nice setup. Not that many people come there…. Maybe they need to add some activities there: set up another piano sing-along spot of set up pool tables there. Also, the Lapidus lounge bar is almost empty when they do not have karaoke nights there. It is one of the best designed spots at the resort and very cozy to spend time at. Hope, they’ll find more ways to direct people there. Overall, our week at Sandals, Dunn’s River was a blast and we are definitely coming back there! Read less

Lovely time all around. Conrad and Tiana killed it at Karaoke. Service was fantastic for 8 straight days and incredible food the whole time. Cheers
