Sandals Antigua is our 5th Sandals & we would definitely go back. First of all, it is a short trip from the airport to the resort. We purchased the Fast Track which was not needed. There was no long lines. It's a nice airport so you don't need to purchase the Executive Lounge. No Executive found here: food was minimal and not good. We stayed on the Caribbean side which we would book again. We could walk out to the pool & the beach. It was usually not crowded at the pool, a couple of people. Being at the end of the resort it was fairly quiet & not many people. It is a public beach, so there were people not from Sandals and those from cruise ships who occupied the beach but not the chairs Sandals provides. This was not an everyday occurrence though. The venders were set up closer to Barefoot but they go up and down the beach. They were not a bother. Our room was nice, not old but not new either. The only noise we heard was in the morning from the tennis/pickleball courts. We did like the location. It was close to Bayside, Soy, & Kimonos. It was also where a lot of the nightly entertainment took place along with the Piano bar & Sundowner bar. The food was delicious everywhere. We went to Mario's twice due to their self serve Antipasto Bar for your appetizer. You could have that as a meal!!! Barefoot was delicious as well for lunch and dinner; right on the beach. Bayside breakfast buffet had a wide assortment of choices as well made to order omelets. They also had a lunch buffet but we ended up at Bella Napoli for pizza, Barefoot, or Courtyard Bistro. Everyday, we had our afternoon Cappuccino and pastry, gelato, or crepe at Cafe de Paris (favorite). We also ordered room service for breakfast one morning. We like to do a lot of the water sports but the weather was overcast & drizzling the first part of the week. The end of the week was the best so we did the snorkeling. It was a bit murky, so not the best snorkeling we've ever done but no fault of Sandals. (weather) We heard several people comment the 360' tour around the island which included stopping to snorkel was great. Hopefully, when we go back the weather will cooperate and we can check that off our list. Also, we didn't get to do the Shirley Heights which had great sunset views. Read less

The food was good, with a wide variety of restaurants. The alcohol flowed, if one was so inclined. There was plenty of entertainment. For us, it was a little loud some nights, but people seemed to be enjoying the music, games, etc. Did I mention how awesome the staff was? Read less

We just got back late Tuesday night from Sandals Grande Antigua. We were there for 7 nights. I never write reviews but I feel this one is warranted. I will preface by saying my husband and I loved the beach, the staff and the food! This all made the negatives bearable. We were on vacation in the idyllic Caribbean and had a wonderful, relaxing time together, as we always do. The good: 1. The beach this Sandals property is on is picture perfect! The most beautiful beach I have ever seen in person, and I have been to more than a few beaches in the Caribbean. There were vendors, like every other resort we’ve been at, but they were polite and respectful. We were surprised that the beach is a public beach and cruise ships ferry passengers in the spend the day which led to foot traffic and some families with children. People set up on the beach for the day but it was never bothersome or intrusive. Sandals security is very good about ensuring only resort guests use the chairs or get on the resort property. 2. The staff at this resort were wonderful, especially considering they are not allowed to accept tips directly from guests. This was different for us, since we are used to tipping during our stays at resorts. Despite this, the bartenders and wait staff at restaurants are super nice and very attentive. Management checked in with us several times, which is a nice touch. The nighttime entertainment was fun but this is not the resort for you if you are looking for a party vibe; there is no club on site. It is very laid back and definitely caters to an older crowd. We are early 50s and felt like teens at times! Lol 3. The food was surprisingly good! Everywhere we ate we enjoyed, especially the lobster and shrimp omelets for breakfast at Eleanor’s! We did not try the French restaurant or the pizza, but all the other restaurants were very good. We really enjoyed the coffee shop and went at least twice a day for coffee and treats. 4. We did not go to the pool at all, we are 100% beach people! There were plenty of beach loungers/umbrellas, despite the fact that guests with butlers have the butlers reserve the loungers for them very early. There are also guests who get out there before dawn to put their towels on chairs to hold them also. We never had trouble getting a space, since I am an early riser and was usually at the beach by about 8-8:30am, coffee in hand. I liked that they don’t have “towel cards”. You can grab as many towels as you need and then just drop them off on your way out of the beach. The bad (just our opinion and experience, which may differ greatly from others, as opinions are subjective): 1. The resort is old. In every way. The landscaping is beautiful and the beach view is stunning but the buildings look very, very dated. The lobby is very underwhelming for a “5-star luxury resort”. All of the buildings can use a refresh: a fresh coat of paint, some deep cleaning, brighter lights… instead they all look dingy and dim. Awnings are torn on the beachfront restaurants, table lamps are very old and many are broken in the lounge areas. The seating (chairs and couches) are dingy and cushions completely flattened in some seating areas, which cheapens the look of the resort. 2. The rooms: we stayed in the Mediterranean side, Cypress building, room 5107. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. There was a swarm of mosquitos inside our room the first two nights we were there. There were tons of them just hanging out on the ceiling and flying around in the water closet (toilet closet). They sprayed twice which finally got rid of them for the rest of our stay. The furniture is old, very old. Again, this is not a huge deal because it is functional but Sandals is known for luxury and exclusivity. Cleaning was virtually non-existent while we were there. Housekeeping did come in daily, sometimes twice a day, to replace the used towels and empty trash, and I did come back to the room once during the day and saw the housekeeper mopping the floor. Two problems I noted: there is an incredibly dingy and musty-smelling throw rug under the bed. As she mopped the floor around the carpet (with water that did not look clean) the carpet was getting wet, which I am sure contributed to the bad look and smell of the carpet. The bathroom was never cleaned the whole week we were there. My husband and I refused to walk barefoot in the room and showered with slippers on due to lack of cleanliness. The furniture was very, very dusty and some of it in disrepair (doors falling off hinges, etc..). There was black mold on the bathroom ceiling and the light fixture in there and the cracked crown molding around it seemed to be falling off the ceiling. The box spring/foundation under the mattress was visible in the corners of the bed near the headboard and it is very, very dirty. The bathroom towels are super dingy, as well as the robes they provide in the rooms. It was difficult being comfortable in the room because of all this. I took pictures for our travel agent and can share. We don’t go on vacation to stay in the room but at about $1000 per night, I found this unacceptable. I would say this resort is about a 3.5 star. There is nothing about this place that says 5-star or luxury. We have stayed at other all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and have paid 1/2 of what this vacation cost and have had great experiences with much better accommodations. We booked a newer Sandals property for next year in Jamaica and are hoping for a better experience. Read less

All three ensured that we were comfortable and our needs were met with kindness, humour, efficiency and with their individual special personalities. Our housekeeper Jianna was a ray of sunshine who ensured everything was in tip top shape. I do confess to being pampered by Kayan at the spa as well. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. The food was delicious and two of my favs were the pulled pork tacos at the OK Coral and the Beet and goat cheese salad at Bayside. The sunsets are always beautiful. Can’t wait to return. Read less

Not lgtbq friendly at all! The food and the pool and the beach were fantastic but me and my wife were on our honeymoon and did not feel welcomed or any honeymoon vibes that the heterosexual couples were receiving. It’s a shame.
