Sandals Grande Antigua Resort - A nice vacation

Sandals Antigua is a great place to vacation. We stayed for 6 days. The shuttle was at the airport as soon as we landed. The check in process was the only downside. The women at the desk were not friendly or helpful. She gave the impression that we were bothering her. (not a good way to make a first impression). The room was very clean and our view was spectacular. We were overlooking the pool and the ocean. The sunsets were gorgeous from our balcony. We received an activity sheet for the week. I loved taking the Aqua Fitness every day! The instructor was friendly and made it fun. The pool was clean and some activities were held at the pool. Music began playing at the pool at 11:00 and was played throughout the day. I think the folks playing the music need to play to the crowd. Most people there were over 50, and the music was very loud (couldn't talk in the pool) and it was all the most recent music, with the exception of 1 afternoon. That afternoon they played a nice variety: Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Eagles...a lot of the people were singing along. I recommend doing that everyday for an hour or two just to play something different and to play to the crowd. The restaurants had good food. Loved the huge antipasti bar in Marios. I only had that for dinner one night. Most restaurants have outdoor seating so you can enjoy your meal while watching the sunset. I recommend Eleanor's, Marios, Drunken Duck and Bayside for dinner. They were all good. The service at the restaurants were good, thr people were very nice. The property is laid out very well. You have the choice to stay at the main pool where the activities are or stroll to the other end and stay in the quiet pool. We spent 1 day on the beach-- the water and the sand is absolutely gorgeous! There are security guards at the gates that check to make sure you are a guest at the resort, for security purposes. There are activities every night. I like that the shows last 1 hour, so you can see 3-4 a night. The show were a good variety- pianist, vocalist, live band, fire dancer, aquatic show and even a headphone party. After the shows, you can stop by the Cafe de Paris for a sweet treat or some ice cream. We enjoyed it so much that we are going back next year. Amazing. We have been to many Sandles and always go back. Antigua has been one for the books. The resort is stunning with beautiful lush grounds. Large pool, spectacular views and beautiful beaches. The staff are simply the best. Everyone and everywhere we went on this resort the staff were just kind, humble, caring and most of all genuinely care about the people who visit and they work with. Family’s and stories that are just wonderful to hear about. I literally left crying because I was really going to miss some of my favorite people. You make memories but become lifelong friends. Our Butlers were fantastic. Emerson, Geoffrey, and Marvin. Funny, caring, hard workers. To my best ladies in Paris Coffee: Sylvia and Kamala (I may have spelled wrong) gosh my heart was so pilled with genuine tears saying goodbye. True kindness from the heart. I adore them both so much and will run back to see them when I return. All staff deserve a shout out because they truly deserve it. Food was always great. I use to have a favorite Sandles we went to often but I can say Antigua won me over. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you for such an amazing vacation but most of all for the great work of the crew who makes it possible. Read less

We just returned from our honeymoon! Yes, Antigua is beautiful and Dickenson Bay is stunning, but what made our experience at the Sandals Grande Antigua exceptional was the service, friendly smiles and hospitality from the employees. I want to thank a few who stood out to us personally: Del Moore from photography. Not only did he capture our love and joy in our photos, but his charisma and attentiveness were unmatched. A sweet shoutout to the beautiful ladies at Cafe Paris who greeted us every morning and made our delicious lattes. They even went out of their way to make local teas, like Soursop, for us to try throughout the week! Then there was Carol, the hostess with the mostest, from the Soy restaurant. She was always smiling and had a beautiful sparkle when she greeted us. She even kept it up while engaging with a few rude and entitled guests. We loved Carol! The two chiefs at Soy were also incredible; heck, so was every waitress who helped us. I believe they all waited on us as we ate there every night Soy was open. This was by far our favorite restaurant! Next, there was Jason from Kimonos, he was very entertaining, fun, and a ball of energy. He truly made the dining experience memorable. We truly hope we get to visit this amazing resort again! Read less
