We just returned from Sandals Antiqua. We have stayed at Sandals 14 times and booked 2 more. We have been there before and was very disappointed. We loved the grounds. Very lush and beautiful. The grounds are kept up very well. The staff for restaurants and hotel were all very nice and helpful. We stayed for 12 days. We had 9 nights booked then decided to stay an extra 3 nights, which meant we had to get out of one room and move into another. The first room we stayed had just been done over and was beautiful. The second room was very old, not really up to the quality of a Sandals. Maybe they are being done over soon???? The restaurants were nice but the food was not very good. We actually said should we go downtown for supper???? We did not because we had paid enough to stay! We went to the restaurants when they opened so the food was hot and fresh. I found the food was cold as soon as it opened. They have guards at each entrance to the beach which is great because there is a lot of traffic from cruise ships. When I went on a cruise ship a few years ago they put on a bracelet with your room number and room key right on it. So it can just be scanned in a store or for the key - so much easier. Also the guards can see you have a sandals bracelet so don't have to look up on a computer the room and name. I found there was a lot of foot traffic - kids included. The families were allowed to sit on the beach right in front of us sitting on the chairs on the beach. I spend a lot of money to go to an over 21 place and didn't have it. I was not happy. I will not return to this Sandals but will go to other Sandals that are private beaches. Maybe even just sanding and painting and changing the knobs on the furniture would make it look better. Overall, the Sandals Grande Antigua was good. It had things to talk about that were good, but also areas for improvement. To set the stage, we were supposed to go to Sandals in Jamaica, but the hurricane wiped out the resort so we rebooked to this one (our first time to Sandals Grande Antigua). First, I’d like to call out the entertainment crew. They were the best we’ve experienced at any Sandals. They had us participating in various daytime activities and were always there with encouragement and a smile. There was not a hint of attitude that I’ve experienced occasionally elsewhere. Special call out to Amanda, Super J, and Nia. The evening entertainment showcased the talent of the entertainment team. The evening entertainment (whether by external or entertainment staff was very enjoyable). Thank-you for making it memorable. The staff at the resort were all very nice. This is a common experience at the other Sandals we’ve been to and this one was no different. This was complete with staff greeting me by name. I need to make a special call out for Stacey who was so accommodating at the Bayside restaurant. She helped me get a dairy-free version of the Lobster Thermador and Crème Brule. I also need to call out Natalia at the pool-bar who was an absolute delight and always prepped drinks for me with a smile and expertise (again substituting soy milk for regular milk in my Dirty Banana drinks). If you go to Kimono’s, try to get Teddy as the chef, since he was worth the entertainment value alone. The woman at the hotdog stand was also very nice (didn’t get her name). The beach was very good. It was not quite at the level of Beaches Turks & Caicos, but very good nonetheless. It was long, wide, and clean with very fine sand and very little underwater vegetation/rocks. There was a bit of a trough a few feet beyond shore which was something you needed to climb out of to get back on shore (and watch your step going in). The grounds were well maintained and all areas generally clean. The cats were well behaved (there was no aggressive attempts to get food; they waited to see if you gave them anything and moved on if you didn’t). We saw some local wildlife too: hummingbirds, small lizards, and one mongoose. The first area for improvement is with the food. The food at the restaurants were average (we are used to a higher level at other Sandals). Just to be clear, it wasn’t bad, but didn’t reach the levels we are used to. The next is the room. We were on the Caribbean side (the other side is the Mediterranean). It was a bit dated and didn’t have the same higher end finishes and amenities we are used to. The details were a bit of a drawback too. Some small examples: the beach pool men’s bathroom didn’t have soap in the soap dispenser on any days, one morning at breakfast the kitchen had run out of eggs at the omelet station (and out of white bread at the bread station) and the line up grew as people waited (probably 10 minutes or so), the pool table at the Drunken Duck was not level and the balls congregated in a depression in the table. Overall, nothing big or major to throw off a vacation, but attention to the details were not always as expected. Read less

Sandals Antigua is our 5th Sandals & we would definitely go back. First of all, it is a short trip from the airport to the resort. We purchased the Fast Track which was not needed. There was no long lines. It's a nice airport so you don't need to purchase the Executive Lounge. No Executive found here: food was minimal and not good. We stayed on the Caribbean side which we would book again. We could walk out to the pool & the beach. It was usually not crowded at the pool, a couple of people. Being at the end of the resort it was fairly quiet & not many people. It is a public beach, so there were people not from Sandals and those from cruise ships who occupied the beach but not the chairs Sandals provides. This was not an everyday occurrence though. The venders were set up closer to Barefoot but they go up and down the beach. They were not a bother. Our room was nice, not old but not new either. The only noise we heard was in the morning from the tennis/pickleball courts. We did like the location. It was close to Bayside, Soy, & Kimonos. It was also where a lot of the nightly entertainment took place along with the Piano bar & Sundowner bar. The food was delicious everywhere. We went to Mario's twice due to their self serve Antipasto Bar for your appetizer. You could have that as a meal!!! Barefoot was delicious as well for lunch and dinner; right on the beach. Bayside breakfast buffet had a wide assortment of choices as well made to order omelets. They also had a lunch buffet but we ended up at Bella Napoli for pizza, Barefoot, or Courtyard Bistro. Everyday, we had our afternoon Cappuccino and pastry, gelato, or crepe at Cafe de Paris (favorite). We also ordered room service for breakfast one morning. We like to do a lot of the water sports but the weather was overcast & drizzling the first part of the week. The end of the week was the best so we did the snorkeling. It was a bit murky, so not the best snorkeling we've ever done but no fault of Sandals. (weather) We heard several people comment the 360' tour around the island which included stopping to snorkel was great. Hopefully, when we go back the weather will cooperate and we can check that off our list. Also, we didn't get to do the Shirley Heights which had great sunset views. Read less
