This was my 4th stay at Sandals, and unfortunately, it will be my last. After reaching the next loyalty tier, I expected a higher level of service and basic respect as a returning guest. Instead, this was the most disappointing experience I’ve ever had with the brand. 1. Spa Credit Refused With No Flexibility I booked a 90-minute massage online before arriving, only to be told in person that I couldn’t use my **$50 spa credit** because they “considered it a phone booking.” I explained I was a four-time returning guest and asked for an exception, and they still refused—coldly and without consideration. 2. Birthday Celebration Completely Ignored This trip was for my wife’s birthday. I asked the butler to help decorate the room and even offered to pay. He brushed me off and said housekeeping would handle it. Housekeeping then said the butler should handle it. In the end, nothing was done. An important moment was overlooked because of poor communication and zero effort. Room 7317 checked out on 11-17-25 3. Major Maintenance Issues in a Premium Butler Suite For the price of a butler oceanfront suite, what we experienced was unacceptable: The overhead showerhead leaked constantly and couldn’t be turned off. The **refrigerator made loud noises all night, ruining our rest. I reported both issues to multiple managers, including the property manager, Nicholas, and never received a response or a fix. 4. No Effort to Make Things Right After so many failures, I asked if they could offer at least $100–$200 in spa credit to acknowledge the inconvenience and the lack of perks I should’ve received as a loyal guest. I was told no—without explanation. Final Verdict Sandals markets itself as a luxury experience, especially for repeat guests. My 4th stay proved the opposite. Poor communication, ignored requests, unaddressed maintenance issues, and a complete lack of guest care have convinced me that there will not be a 5th stay. Sandals lost a loyal customer not because of one issue, but because they failed at every opportunity to make things right. Read less

To start off, the location was beautiful and our room was excellent, however that's where most of the positives end. Food was mid-tier resort food, comparable to some of the lesser costing resorts in Mexico that I've been to, but not the top-tier that I normally experience with a Sandals property. Upon arrival, we had a luxury private transfer from the airport as part of the room. While I understand multiple couples will arrive with the airlines at the same time, it was unfortunate that we ended up waiting about 45 minutes for the car to come around; mind you, there was a Mercedes parked in the same area the whole time waiting on someone to show up. Yes, the idea of a Rolls Royce is nice, getting to the resort was our priority, but it seemed to be a lesser priority than for some others.   Once we did get to the resort, we were met by our "lead" butler, where we were promptly taken to our room; this was great, but our luggage wasn't there and it seemed inconvenient for the butler when he came back an hour later to give us a tour of the grounds that I refused due to not having the luggage there so I was unable to change clothes into something more appropriate for the temperature. I wasn't going to take a 1+ mile walk around the grounds in jeans and a heavy shirt. In the butler preferences, I did spell out the request/expectation to have food available in the room upon arrival, unless the lunch places were still active; we didn't arrive until after the lunch places closed, and our tour ended at Dinos pizza where we were able to order an afternoon snack. This was appreciated, though, again, it took a considerable amount of time to get food to us--for reference, we hadn't had the opportunity to eat much prior to getting on our flight at 5:00 AM, and arriving after lunch meant we had few options for food available. Our flight was not delayed or altered, so I'm not sure why the butler staff didn't know we'd expect something to eat in the room upon arrival. Day 2, we had our butler staff reserve chairs at the beach for us. The chairs were nice, the location was beautiful, however there was a drug dealer sitting in a chair about 30 feet from us staring us down the whole time. This made my wife uncomfortable, but we looked past it for about 45 minutes. When we walked down to the water to see what the ocean temperature felt like we were instantly bombarded with offers to sell us drugs; meanwhile we declined. The offers kept coming though and this turned us off of going back to the beach and just staying at the pool. If we wanted a resort with a nice pool, we would have saved $15k and stayed home; there are some amazing pools in Las Vegas that are heated and available year-round. Later on day 2, once again, it was apparent the butler staff had not read or reviewed the butler notes provided prior to our stay. I did reach our via Gina to request an alternate team, however after that text conversation, the butler staff started being more attentive to our original requests; however they did not really do anything that wasn't explicitly requested--i.e. we requested coconut shrimp in the room daily--this began after the complaint; however the note also stated we'd love to have some other snacks and treats delivered--we only once got something other than the coconut shrimp (chicken wings and chicken skewers--both were great). We also didn't ever have anything done special in the room, excluding one time where "LOVE" was written in leaves with some flower petals on the bed--this was welcomed and staff were thanked for the nice things done. Dinner for Day 2 was selected to be Bombay--neither my wife or myself like Indian food, and we requested the change be made (this request was made when we found out the restaurant was reserved). We were accommodated with a "hard to get" reservation at Butch's steak and seafood--amazingly the restaurant was less than 50% filled with guests and seemed like there would have been plenty of room for butler guests in one of the highest tier rooms available to easily move to this or another restaurant. The food was Ok, but nothing special, it seemed standard across all of the restaurants to not know how to cook a steak--I always request medium, but most were medium-well or well-done. I didn't complain because I don't believe any changes would have come of the complaint. Day 3-leaving were more of the same. We did have a good time at the pool near our room, we were out early, and we would have to reach out to our butler staff each morning requesting where to go--mind you, other properties would text or call us in the morning or let us know what cooler number to look for either the night before or when the cooler was placed early in the mornings.  We did have an amazing time on Friday at the spa for a massage; though the spa staff in the office were less than great; it seems the culture in Barbados does not line up well with the level of service We've gotten at all of the other Sandals properties we've been at. The poor culture was experienced outside of the resort as well (I know that off-resort cannot be controlled by the resort, but pushing drugs and walking in a threatening manner by locals when you wouldn't engage with them was beyond acceptable), so I think it must be a locals thing to seem irritated and often talk poorly about guests while nearby; unless the local language uses alternate meanings to some of the words spoken. Overall, my wife and I have determined our experience was nowhere near the Sandals brand standards, the resort felt like ones we've been to in Mexico for a considerably inflated price by comparison. I hate to say it, but the reviews I've seen on FaceBook were mostly correct, the resort is pretty, however the staff and people of the island could care less about the guests; I am not sure what the major products of the island are, but I'd be tourism is one of the biggest draws of money to the island and having a culture that openly talks poorly to guests, pushes drugs, and threatens you for not engaging with them is not a place I'd like to be again. For the approx. $15,000 spent on my room, I feel the experience was only worth about $6,000 (room was amazing, all of the rest wasn't). I honestly feel ripped off by the experience and it has made me think about continuing with the Sandals brand. However, we've had such good experiences at the other resorts that we've been to that we will return to the brand; in fact, we have an upcoming reservation back at Sandals Royal Bahamian. Read less

This was our first visit to Sandals. We had an excellent holiday, and Barbados certainly is an island we will return to. Some real positives. We just booked the cheapest room, but it was excellent - spacious and with everything you could possibly want. Very private. Well serviced every day and very comfortable. It is a large resort, with lots of pools. Probably one to suit all tastes. The main pool, the Infinity Pool, is lovely, but suffers from very loud music. Not ourthing, so we had to find somewhere else. The sun lounger situation is a joke and out of control. They have a clearly advertised policy of not booking sunbeds before 0700 and not leaving them unattended for more than two hours, but it is totallly ignored. The butlers are out early booking sunbeds, closely followed by everyone else, so set your alarm and get out early because by 0700 they are all gone. It becomes a bit of a game. The beach is lovely, really nice. The food and beverage offering is of a high standard, and there should be somewhere to suit all tastes. Restaurant bookings are a nightmare though. We were told that this was due to Hurricane Melissa, which had knocked out the Sandals IT system based in Jamaica. Getting a confirmed booking at a sensible time proved difficult. We did eventually get four of our ten evenings booked though. We liked Neptunes, Portofino and The Greenhouse for dinner. The Greenhouse and La Parisienne for breakfast. During the day snack food at the Jerk Shack hit the spot and lovely ice cream at Cafe de Paris. The Oasis bar can be hard to find. Nice and quiet, worth the effort. We had a very negative experience at Kimonos, the Japanese restaurant. The noise from American guests shouting and screaming was simply too much, so we left before we had any food. A lot of the food seems to be imported from the US - even sugar! Also butter in small plastic portions. Both are available locally. Butch’s is a popular restaurant, but more like an American diner really. Also very loud, and with meat imported from the US. Hormone treatment of meat for human consumption is permitted in the US, but not UK. The dress code for dinner is applied on an ad hoc basis, but it was good to see the worst offenders being refused entry a few times. Service - overall this is best described as patchy. We had some excellent experiences, but quite a few negative ones where it appeared to be surly and grudgingly given.Having worked with Barbadians I think this is more of a cultural thing than any ill intent. Although English is the language it can often be difficult to understand. Don’t expect the same levels of service as the Middle East or Far East, but it’s not terrible. As UK / Europeans, the main negative and maybe the only thing that would make us question returning to Sandals is cultural. By far the largest national group are Americans. Not a problem in itself of course, many are nice, but there is a large element of “redneck” culture - brash and loud, building pyramids in the swimming pool. Often alcohol fuelled of course. It can be difficult to escape but it can be done. We did two excursions - hiking and mountain biking. Both excellent. The north and east of the island are lovely. Hired a car for two days and explored. Bridgetown is nothing special and traffic really bad. Tripadvisor is blocked on the resort, which is odd and not a good sign. There are ways round it though. Overall, we had an excellent holiday and would certainly return to Barbados. Sandals? Maybe. Read less

Unbelievable!!!! It’s 7:15am and at the quiet pool there are no beds available with umbrellas and no towels without hunting down those that are not put out by the staff yet. Otherwise everything is lovely although housekeeping don’t seem to be able to supply decaffeinated coffee. Food has been excellent.

We had a great holiday because we were in great company, but there were many places I felt fell short of the standard we were expecting from the Sandals brand. The resort was well kept and the grounds were lovely. The beach was also lovely. Our room was spacious and clean. The issues came with details such as our phone in the room not working for 9 days and having to walk to the concierge to order room service which then took 2 hours to arrive, after multiple trips back to chase it. The long waits for food at walk in restaurants as we were club level not butler and then the difficulty making reservations in the restaurants that needed to be booked, being offered times like 17:30 or 20:30 when it closes at 21:00. The majority of staff were very friendly, however some bar staff and servers barely smiled and it seemed like an inconvenience that we were there. On multiple occasions I gathered up glasses around the areas we were sitting at the pool (not all ours) and took them back to the bar and did not get a smile or thank you at all. I did this to prevent them blowing or rolling into the pools. It was my first time at a Sandals resort and it was a mixed experience. I appreciate with the resort is under pressure due to the closures in Jamaica, and I know that the staff are stretched, but basics like a working phone, robes being provided as promised, cleaning up around the pool areas and service with a smile I would've expected with such a large brand, especially at the premium price they are charging. I loved Barbados and as so happy to have got to see so much of the island outside the resort. I will definitely return to Barbados but likely not Sandals Read less
