We stayed for a week in this luxurious resort. We loved everything about it from arrival to departure. Every member of staff including the Guest Experience Manager were superb in their daily interactions with guests. Our room was on the beachfront which had a great view. The beach was clean and well maintained. Although the beach was accessible to the public it was not busy or crowded and there was a security guard employed by the hotel 24/7. There were 2 restaurants which provided a lovely selection of local and specialist dishes such as lion fish and barracuda. The Oliver restaurant provided fine dining. I was also able to request dishes with that combined ingredients from different menus. We met the talented chef. There were different activities on offer. We enjoyed the sunset cruise. Athough it was cloudy, the experience was fabulous due to Kevin’s attention to detail and superb service. He even wished us farewell on our departure. He is a credit to the company. I would like to thank Cleon, Guest Activities Assistant for his liveliness and manner in motivating guests. This included an organised walk to Quarantine Point - a local park with great views over the sea especially at sunset. We found the whole place very relaxing and would highly recommend this resort. A five star resort should provide exceptional service, attention to detail and an exceptional Pampered guest experience. Here is why Spice island beach resort failed to live up to this five star designation 1. Lack of beach service/beach chairs / old tattered beach cushions. Unless you are in a beachfront villa you will be scrounging for your own beach chair on a daily basis. I was very surprised that a beach resort of this caliber doesn’t have a beach attendant to set you up with a chair towel and umbrella. We spend each day looking for chairs the cushions were tattered and dirty there was no beach service the first day and it was only after I complained that a nice young lady came by every day after. The beach is the highlight of this hotel. I do not understand why they do not have service and better furniture . 2. Uneven staff service. Some staff were lovely especially upon arrival. And others Seemed put upon to serve you. Arrival had my full of hope with lovely front desk person a nice drink and an introduction to the room. Went downhill from there . Food service was u even in that some Mornings particularly the servers seemed perturbed to be serving you l. We often did not receive what we ordered and service was often slow. We had to ask numerous times for things we ordered . Ar the spa I had to wait while one staff member regularly continued her personal Phone conversation leaving me waiting 3. Details - one treadmill of two wasn’t working for two days. Manager advised they were waiting for a technician Turns out the cable wasn’t plugged in and another guest figured it out. Overall a disappointment 3 Numerous times Read less

The location and first impressions were terrific and the resort is situated close to the airport so the drive was not endless. Very welcome after a full day’s -8 “7travel. We had a lovely warm welcome to the hotel by the staff on duty and they upgraded us to their best accommodation because we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. Thank you! Our villa was spacious and private. BUT there was no sun on our patio so we had to retreat to the beach. Disappointing On the beach the service experience was very Disappointing The view was magnificent but service was very poor. We requested beach loungers to different people 4 times before we gave up and sorted ourselves out. Disappointing There was one person serving everyone on the beach. (Lovely girl) but don’t forget this is a beach resort) Disappointing During our introduction to the resort I was struck by all the strict opening and closing times of bars restaurants and the pool. Which were very pleasant by the way and all overlooking the beach. The restaurant experience was good. Very personable staff at every meal and good food which was bit slow to appear. (Handy hint…... Don’t help yourself at the buffet. ). We were worried that we might tire of the menus at dinner but they changed it up night two 👍. The hotel is attractive and clean but a little tired and dated. e.g Tiles missing in our private pool. (Champagne problems I know but you are paying for perfection. ) the pool was very clean. They have done a great job of making the environment feel tropical and there are plenty of places to relax other than your room. I would rate the staff really. The sounds outside are tropical and the grounds are fabulous and well tended and everyone works very hard and is definitely welcoming. The shop sells mouth watering merchandise but at mouthwatering prices. (Take your passport in if making purchases because you can benefit from the tax free price) . Spice Island is everything you could possibly want in a tropical retreat but the owners could be less complacent given how expensive it is. I hope this helps. Read less

This is an exceptional boutique resort hotel on the most fabulous beach in Grenada (or maybe even the entire Caribbean). There are c. 60 suites in the hotel so maybe a total of 150 guests but the staff really try hard to learn your names. The hotel is family-owned and you can easily tell this by the way they train their team to provide the very best customer service. It is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. We have stayed at one of these before in Mauritius and this one in Grenada is very similar in many ways. In Grenada we stayed in an Oleander Superior Garden Suite which is one of their standard rooms but was very spacious and comfortable with views of the ocean in the distance but very close to the beach. The resort is ultra all inclusive and the room mini bar was well stocked with beers and spirits (but strangely no wine). The resort offers seated a-la-carte breakfasts, lunches and dinners in 2 adjacent restaurants, - the fine dining Oliver restaurant and the Sea & Surf Terrace Bar. During our stay (of one week), there were only 2 nights where the Sea & Surf Terrace Bar was open for dinner. If I had one criticism it would be to open this more frequently for those of us attracted to a less formal dining experience than offered by Olivers. The BBQ night hosted at Sea & Surf was excellent and probably more to my taste. There was an afternoon tea option but with all the other food, - we never partook! We booked the catamaran sunset cruise but unfortunately, there was no sunset. It was a great experience nevertheless. We also booked a free to wander jeep safari which I would also recommend but you need to be a confident driver as the jeeps go off road on some exposed, hilly and tight roads. It provided a great opportunity to see close up the Forts, Waterfalls, Lakes etc in this wonderful island. The wines served with meals (and at the bar) were good quality as was the selection of cocktails, prosecco, beers etc. On one of the nights at Olivers, one of the starter choices was frogs legs which I wouldn't recommend. Grenada is a lovely safe island (virtually no crime). There are very few "hawkers" on the public beach which was also very quiet at the hotel's south end of the beach. A walk up north got busier as you get closer to St Georges. We had seen previous reviews about mosquitos and I am often bitten a lot but we had no problems in Grenada in November. We did elect for Vitamin B tablets, Garlic tablets and mosquito repellant (but this usually doesnt work much for me but did here). Arranging your own taxis from the airport is simple (and much better value than pre-booking with the hotel). An excellent hotel with great rooms, public areas, food and wine but hats off to the staff for exceptional service from start to finish. Read less
