The Escape has so much going for it. Its location is simply idyllic - and, as its name suggests isolated, quiet, peaceful and beautiful. From the restaurant you look over a scene of soft, green hills beyond what looks like a vast lake rather than the sea upon which you might see the odd fishing boat or small sailing vessel. And at night there is hardly a light to be seen. The beach, similarly quiet and peaceful, lies a 15/20 minute walk away over an admittedly steep hill. We did it every day apart from one. just take your time. You are on holiday after all. And the effort is well worthwhile. Because of its isolated location and the effort needed to get to it we seldom saw more than a dozen other people. The sand is soft and clean. The sea is shallow and despite the efforts of the enthusiastic beach attendant is fairly seaweedy, but it is swimmable and warm and good for a paddle or just a gentle lie-down. There are sun beds aplenty and a hotel run beach bar serving drinks and snacks and fortunately, despite someone suggesting it - no sun brollies as adequate shade is provided by the swaying palm trees which grow on the beach. and always - a welcome, warm breeze. No need to lay claim to a bed here before dawn! Not much else to do really apart from sitting with a good book and hopefully someone you love close by - I guess that's what The Escape is all about! In my estimation, the rooms are lovely - nicely designed, spacious with a comfortable bed, a sink each, nice toilet, good showering even a bath! (Dunno why!), reasonable toiletries, interesting toilet paper and lest I forget a plunge pool which I christened our 'Cement pond'- Remember The Beverly Hillbillies? Prior to our visit, I thought we'd never use it at all. In the event, we used it every day!It was very clean, quite deep but very welcoming with plenty of afternoon sunshine coming on to it and even though we had a 'Garden Room' it still afforded us a lovely view of the sea beyond as well as mongooses, humming birds and flowers closer at hand and wonderful sunsets. Furthermore, our housekeeping lady was brilliant and we never returned to our room without finding it refreshed and pristine. She is to be congratulated. The food was generally very good, sometimes excellent and, very occasionally, disappointing - I know it's only baked beans but they needn't be served stone cold and cremated bacon should easily be avoided. Having said that, it was invariably well-presented and being served at your table is an added bonus whilst on holiday. The portions are not large but certainly adequate although maybe 2 lovely prawns could be extended to three! The drinks too were good. At least we thought so but that's the thing about food. It's a very subjective subject. So maybe , take what I say here with a pinch of salt - large or small. You see it depends on what you like - literally and figuratively food is a question of taste. Anyway, we were generally very happy and the overall dining experiences were lovely, even romantic and even for a couple celebrating fifty years of marriage! And sitting together and talking to other couples of all ages is again what it's all about. So, ok, location, food, comfort etc are all essential ingredients needed to enjoy a great holiday, but, in my view, inevitably it's the staff that makes or breaks any resort. I can only say it would be nigh impossible to meet a more charming, charismatic, enthusiastic and genuinely welcoming and altogether lovely group of people. Universally, they all work extremely hard to ensure you have a good time and always, no matter how tired they might be, greeting you with a smile to give us all a sense of togetherness and belonging. I mention only two by name Khadi and Hanna and only because I said I would and also because they are both new and 'on probation' and because they like ALL the staff are just lovely young people. I am sure they will prosper. They are all very professional and help to make 'The Escape' the special place it is. In conclusion, what more is there to add? There is so much choice out there - cruises, adventure, crowded city breaks etc. but if you want space anytime and a touch of romance with someone you love, then The Escape might be for you as it was for my wife and I. Of course, little improvements are always possible for any establishment, but if you were to ask me if anything was missing from our experience at The Great Escape I would honestly reply 'Nothing really'. My lovely wife and friend however might say - "Well maybe Steve McQueen!' What is she like?? Thanks to you all, we had a great time and hope to be back. Read less

On arrival, in the evening met by a charming young man Jaheim, who showed us to our room, lots of thoughtful touches, escape water bottles, milk in the fridge, coffee pods. What a view to wake up to in the morning, amazing. After a medical situation happened on our first day I can’t praise the staff more highly especially Cheraine who went beyond the call of duty to help us. Food was wonderful as were the staff, a little shout out to our little ray of sunshine Hanna. All the staff at the escape are fabulous, reception, cleaning, gardeners & not forget Jevon the maintenance man who not only showed us how to work the tv & aircon, mended my husband shoes. I could write pages about the escape, but come & see for yourself. There is only one downfall & I feel I should mention it, you do have to eventually leave. Read less

We arrived home yesterday after spending a week in this wonderful resort. We wanted a quiet break in a quiet, beautiful place and that is what we got. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the place, the friendliness of the staff and all that the Escape offered. Our suite overlooked the sea with fabulous views, it was comfortable and clean and our plunge pool was a welcome addition in the hot afternoons. We loved the food and although portions may be small for some it was perfect for me as it enabled me to try more of the four courses offered at dinner and 3 at lunch. The bbq on Wednesday was especially good and the steel band accompanying it were talented and obviously enjoying themselves too. We loved the company of the birds at breakfast, they were comical and beautiful. We went on a day tour with Aubrey who was funny and knowledgeable and had the best day out. Green Island was well worth seeing as we had a beach to ourselves and literally swam with wild turtles. All the staff were friendly and helpful from the lovely cleaner of our room to the bar, reception and restaurant staff. Some stood out to us only because we perhaps saw more of them but special thanks to Maxine, Ivanna and Kadijah. The little bar on the beach was great with its swings, cocktails and panninis. We will come back. Thank you so much Read less
