The Escape at Nonsuch Bay

I have recently returned from a 14 night stay in this hotel and feel we had a very mixed feelings about it. Initial impression of the location were very good, how ever the check-in experience was not as one would expect. It’s an online check in which was easier enough and the were sent down to the bar for a drink, to the return to reception for a mini orientation and then sent off to find our room and bags. Not ideal with hand luggage a cases trying to get down stairs. Help was not offered. During our stay we noted other groups were treated differently on arrive being served a drink in reception and offers of help with baggage. Initial impression of our room were very good.Requested and extra blanket as we were friends staying and not a couple. Twin beds are not offered. One downside is the toilet door not being solid (glass door, not full length) and lack of privacy. The out door area was lovely and this were we spent most of our time. We had a garden view and saw lots of hummingbirds. Unfortunately again due to the lack of privacy we did not use the bath outside. One big downside for us was the housekeeping. It was only offered on alternate days and when it did happen they were in and out in 10 mins. My friend ended up cleaning it herself as surfaces hadn’t been wiped down. The pool bath mat was only changed once in 2 weeks. Water tip and something were weren’t aware of. You get 2 bottles on arrival. You the have to refill these bottle yourself in the bar or pay a surcharge! My advice would be take an insulated travel mug/flask to refill. According to management a mini bar and extra room features are available at different rooms. Accessibility can be tricky if you have any mobility issues. There are a lot of stairs in the hotel and the ones from reception down to the pool area are quite deep. The Restaurant Make sure you’re good with using a QR code. All menus are done this way. Breakfast menu doesn’t change, however the do offer a special each day but you have specifically ask what it is. You can also specify the quantities of things you order for example the standard is 3 pancakes but you reduce this if you wish. Lunch and dinner are 3 courses and generally the food is of good quality but some the portions sizes can be on the larger size. Although were told that this a way the locals show their love through food. Service was a little on the disorganised side with long waits between sitting ordering and serving. Breakfast and lunch been worse for this. One day I think we waited 40 minutes for a starter. Donamarie and Ivana were very good though. The drinks from the bar were excellent but could do with and extra staff member during busy periods. Undercover areas when it rains. Basically there are none other than your room. The roof leaks in the restaurant and there are only 4 chairs in reception, which also makes it uncomfortable when you’ve checked out. Beach access. It’s not on the beach, it’s 10 minute hilly walk away and the shuttle only runs twice daily. The beach bar is not always open either. Overall despite some of my observations we did enjoy our stay but the main reason for not wanting to return is the noise level of other guests, particularly when we had request a quiet part of the hotel for relaxation purpose. There a few guest that felt they wanted to party in their pools and balconies with little consideration for others around them. Plus causing their pools to over flow into our below. This is a boutique hotel so small but perfectly formed with a restaurant, bar and a pool but as there are nice size pools in the rooms we didn’t need more than this. The rooms are beautiful and having a pool and bath on the balcony overlooking the bay was lovely. It’s on the east of the island so a quiet spot for relaxation and peace. There is a beautiful dock area where you can spend the day and a free shuttle bus to the beach twice a day. The boat trip to green island is really worth it and we saw lots of turtles and fish snorkelling in peaceful surroundings. The restaurant is à la carte so don’t expect a buffet breakfast but they are very accommodating and to be honest we didn’t miss it. Worth trying the lobster one night - fabulous. The only thing that would have enhanced our stay was the availability of some snacks at the bar but other than that it was fantastic! Read less

I really liked the escape. I thought being in the middle of nowhere would be an issue but it wasn't really BUT if you want a taxi somewhere it is expensive. Fid I thought was varied but excellent. Staff were welcoming. Bring bug spray and anything else you need though because it's a long expensive trek anywhere. If you are coming from the airport ask your taxi driver to stop at a supermarket en route. The private pools are nice, shady from the sun compared to the main pool. Drinks are great. Our honeymoon was an absolutely amazing experience\! We loved everything about our stay, from the exceptional service and delicious food to the beautiful layout and private plunge pool. Every detail made our experience so special and memorable! Dianna and Randy at the front desk took such wonderful care of us and made us feel so welcomed. Sean, our driver, was so much fun and incredibly knowledgeable about the island. He made our rides enjoyable while sharing so much about the local area. Enrique, the bartender, made us the BEST drink to our liking, which we loved so much that we named it the **“Enrique Special”** ! 😂🍹 Carissa, Keisha, Ivanna, and Hanah were also amazing servers at the restaurant. They were so friendly, attentive, and welcoming, and they truly made our dining experiences even better. We did the snorkeling sea turtle tour with the resort and our guide,Dave was so patient, funny and really enjoyed his company! We are so grateful to the entire team for making our honeymoon unforgettable. Everyone went above and beyond to make us feel special, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My husband and I went to Antigua for our honeymoon September 14th-21st. We chose this resort because we wanted privacy, however we were not aware that the resort is 45 minutes-1 hour from the airport. Pretty much everything you will want to see or do will be 30 minutes- an hour away. The roads are rough and the taxi's at the airport are overwhelming, so be sure to set up a driver to pick you up from the airport. The resort can help you with that in advance. Once you get to the resort, its beautiful and pretty quiet. The person at the front desk will be your best friend for helping plan excursions or set up rides for you to go wherever you want. The food at the resort is great and changes daily. The meal times are 7:30am-10am, 12:30p-2p, tea time is 3:30-5, then dinner is 6:30pm-9pm. **Be aware, there are no convenient stores or grocery stores near by so plan accordingly if you will want snacks or anything else to eat**. The rooms were incredible, the views are amazing, the staff was all very kind and helpful. The resort will not exchange currency to EC but US dollars and cards are accepted most places so you don't necessarily need EC cash. The exchange rate at the time im writing this review is 2.7 from USD to EC. The resort has a beach in another area of the resort that you wont see if staying at the resort. A van goes there daily. They bring a cooler with different drinks for you because there is no where to purchase drinks or food at that beach. A lot of the public beaches, like Dickenson Bay and such have restaurants and places to rent chairs. I recommend everything we did: explore on our own in Downtown St John's, took a zipline tour, swam with the stingrays, went to multiple different beaches, and our favorite... Definitely go to Jolly Harbour one night!! We went Thursday, the slower night, and Sunday night because we loved it so much we went back.
