We have just returned home after 2 lovely weeks at The Escape. Firstly the rooms are what made the stay so special, they are lovely and the plunge pools are great. The hotel is so calm and peaceful in a lovely setting. The pool is small but never too busy. The bar is great and so are the cocktails on offer, especially strong if made by Charles! Overall the food was very good, 2 choices for each course and a breakfast special each day. Portion size was a bit variable , some were ridiculously small whereas others were more than adequate. Service in the restaurant was generally very good, but on occasions could be slow and a bit disorganised. On at least two occasions we waited so long for coffee that never arrived so we gave up. Special shout out to Maxine who was always smiling, Ivanna and Shanea were also very good and engaging. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary while we were there and it was a perfect place . We hired a car for a week and I’m so glad we did. The Escape is very much out of the way , and the beach at the hotel was incredibly disappointing as covered in seaweed. There is a boom at sea to catch the weed but in our opinion. This was making the situation worse as tons were still be washed up daily. It was impossible to swim in the sea as it was thick mud/silt and the water was greenish brown and murky. The beach itself was very nice as was the beach bar but totally ruined by the seaweed and the smell of it. People were working hard every day to remove it but were fighting a losing battle. Half moon Bay was sadly also covered. We knew it would be a risk at this time of year but it was much worse than we expected. But we did visit some amazing beaches on the west coast although about an hour away. The boat over to Green Island is an absolute must, as is the turtle snorkelling. We kayaked in the bay once which was nice but didn’t do any of the other trips offered by the hotel. We visited stingray city which was amazing, but felt ripped off by the taxi which was booked via reception. Our friends had visited stingray city and paid $65 for a taxi. They wanted to visit again so booked a taxi that we could share . When it came to checking out they had been charged $100 for the same taxi trip and the same size vehicle but apparently because 2 extra passengers an extra $35 . They refused to pay as had not been told of the extra cost. When we came to check out the extra fee had been added to our bill so we were not impressed but had no choice but to pay it. Anyway, a very long and honest review of a great holiday. We loved it at The Escape, lots of wildlife and bird life and peace and quiet. But if we were to return to Antigua would definitely stay on the West Coast . Read less

The hotel is nice. It not quite as nice as described, other couples that have been before stated it has gone downhill especially the food service and the beach quality. I would not recommend this hotel. The food was at times (cold meats at breakfast) Inedible and the room did not match the Expedia listing images - be warned. You get what you pay for this is a lower-end 2/3-star resort and it shows. The pool area really run down too. The room itself was nice enough, but that was the only positive. Hotel staff were helpful but I Would not recommend. We thankfully booked another hotel. Read less

An excellent stay. It is truly a masterclass in relaxation. Lovely rooms with our own private plunge pool and an amazing view. There is a fridge in the room with milk, soft drinks, water. Cocktails are amazing - my favourite was the Caribbean Daze - big shout out to Charles such a great bartender and service with a smile. Also to Enrique - great service at breakfast and the beach bar. Would recommend to go to Green Island - the beach is beautiful. Only 10 mins in the speed boat service. Also we had great fun at Shirley Heights and the views are spectacular. If you want a week or two of relaxation, would highly recommend. Read less

We knew this before we arrived and we enjoyed all the food. The few reasons I didn't give it 5 were, no food at beach bar. Limited snacks throughout the day. No reusesable cups for water, instead we were given a plastic bottle in room to refil. Maybe supply a refil cup to use for water. Also no drinks in the minibar. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Read less
