The hotel

Those torn between ‘contemporary chic’ and ‘utterly authentic’ needn’t choose – after a radical revamp, Tropical Attitude promises both. All bold geometric design and luxe natural touches, this adults-only retreat gives grownups that boutique hotel feel and a genuine Mauritian experience. It starts with its location – facing a turquoise lagoon, just a free shuttle ride from the beautiful beaches at Ile aux Cerfs, it’s near the traditional fishing village of Trou d’Eau Douce. And it continues with its attitude – with real Mauritius found everywhere from its spa treatments to its experiences, including cookery lessons, a weekly ‘Made in Mauritius’ market, and home-cooked dinners at local families’ homes. Dining at Tropical Attitude is equally authentic, whether you’re at its intimate Kot Nou restaurant (which seats just 20 guests), tucking into Mauritian street food from TABA-j, or taking one of its picnic baskets over to Ile aux Cerfs. Where is it

On a lagoon near the fishing village of Trou d’Eau Douce, opposite beautiful Ile aux Cerfs, with a free shuttle running to the island for swimming and sunbathing. It is also 15 minutes’ drive from Belle Mare, and an hour’s drive from the capital, Port Louis. Transfer time from Mauritius International Airport: Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes (Please note that if taking a seat in coach this may be longer depending on how many hotel stops are en route).

58 rooms and 11 villas, decorated in Creole style. All sea-facing with private furnished balcony or terrace, air-conditioning, TV, WiFi, telephone, mini-bar, safe, hairdryer, and complimentary WiFi access.

Couple Seafront Rooms offer views of Trou d'Eau Douce lagoon and Île aux Cerfs Island, with 1 double bed, or 2 twin beds, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Please note: Mini bar is initially empty and can be filled from a selection of coffee, tea, snacks, and cold drinks from Laboutik.

Couple Deluxe Seafront Rooms are located on the ground floor with views of Trou d'Eau Douce lagoon and Île aux Cerfs Island, and are larger in size, with either 1 double bed or 2 twin beds, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Villas are approximately 100 sq m and are located on the ground floor with a private swimming pool and garden with hammock, bathrobes and slippers, and either 1 double bed or 2 twin beds, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Bor Lamer (local and international cuisine, open for buffet breakfast, buffet or à la carte lunch and special theme buffet or table d’hote dinner). Kot Nou (traditional Mauritian cuisine, open for dinner 4 days a week). Taba-J (serving street food for lunch, as well as afternoon snacks). Moonrise (open-air lounge area with lobster menu on request*). Bar Sea-U. Teabaz (Tea bar).  

Evening entertainment 4 times a week, including sega show.

We arrive on 10th Feb 2026 after a very long flight We were greeted by Karen who made us feel at home straight away A cool towel and a welcoming drink and we were taken to our room Upstairs with a beautiful Kew from the terrace. Ready to go out. The beds are really comfortable. Our house keeper Patricia was excellent not only a clean room But the towel art was excellent from mermaids to hanging monkeys. We had a special meal at Moonrise so much food and Sunil looked after us so well, along with Ram and the other staff in the restaurant We’re also helpful and nothing was to much trouble The same could be same for the bar staff, who after a day or two New what drinks we wanted The setting is so peaceful set on a lagoon with breathtaking views No chance of not gestating a sun bed, they are in several locations With ample beds. The authentic night is a must, your taken to Concitas house (she works at the hotel) where your made to feel so welcome, given plenty of Mauritian food and lots to drink. Every body had a great time and all the monies went to her and her family not a penny went to the hotel. Our room wasn't quite ready for us but approximately 30 minutes later we were taken to our room to settle in. All rooms apart from the villas are facing the sea and have a fabulous view of the ocean. After a nap we emerged to explore the resort. We had booked the AI package so all meals and drinks including many cocktail choices were included. Breakfast is well catered for and should suit even the fussiest of eaters. Lunchtime is a la carte and you could choose from a varied menu which we explored fully over our 10 night stay. Dinner is buffet style in the main restaurant and had enough choice for us ranging from Mauritian cuisine to BBQ and many other things. We didn't try the other small a la carte restaurant in the evening but other guests said it was good. All the facilities were of excellent standard especially the pool side areas where there was nightly entertainment by local artistes. We did the free boat trip to ile aux cerfs and also the free glass bottom boat trip and the snorkeling trip. These are well worth trying. All in all a fantastic trip made even better by the excellent staff at the resort. Read less
