The hotel

Those torn between ‘contemporary chic’ and ‘utterly authentic’ needn’t choose – after a radical revamp, Tropical Attitude promises both. All bold geometric design and luxe natural touches, this adults-only retreat gives grownups that boutique hotel feel and a genuine Mauritian experience. It starts with its location – facing a turquoise lagoon, just a free shuttle ride from the beautiful beaches at Ile aux Cerfs, it’s near the traditional fishing village of Trou d’Eau Douce. And it continues with its attitude – with real Mauritius found everywhere from its spa treatments to its experiences, including cookery lessons, a weekly ‘Made in Mauritius’ market, and home-cooked dinners at local families’ homes. Dining at Tropical Attitude is equally authentic, whether you’re at its intimate Kot Nou restaurant (which seats just 20 guests), tucking into Mauritian street food from TABA-j, or taking one of its picnic baskets over to Ile aux Cerfs. Book into one of the newer villas to enjoy a private pool all to yourselves, perfect for a special occasion.

Absolutely impeccable hotel! The service is absolutely first class, and how on earth this hotel is a 3 star is beyond me! Easily a 5 star+. We came here for my birthday, from the UK and the staff and people in and around the hotel could not do enough for us. We had one of the 11 villas available, and it was quite literally one of the most special places we have ever stayed! Kimini, our maid was incredible and every day we got a different towel art of various animals made on our bed, which always brought a smile to our face. I even got a special elephant made by her on my birthday while I was there, with a lovely message to go beside it, which was a lovely touch. Food: We never had a bad meal, all of the food is fresh, and wide ranging and during our 10 night stay, we never saw a repeat of the main meals so that was nice. There's something for everyone here! If you're after animation teams, and lively partying this is NOT the hotel for you - however if you're after a nice relaxed Mauritian vibe, in a beautiful family run hotel then you could do worse than booking here for your stay. Special Highlights: - Kimini the maid - J (one of the waiting staff - sorry cannot remember his full name!) - Ram (the waiter) - The free boat trip to Ile Aux Cerfs, free from the hotel jetty - The glass bottom boat (free) - The cocktails! - The entertainment was also good and just what was needed in this kind of hotel, relaxed vibe, good musicians/singers/bands on different nights - The hotel cleanliness is unbelievable - everything was pristine - Their eco-friendly approach to the environment, no plastics ....and a very special mention to Fifi the dog, who we fell in love with. What a lovely girl Would we stay here again? 10000% YES!! fantastic little hotel. Now the constructive bit, but this is NO WAY related to the hotel and it's services, and is more around the area and our own experiences: - Trou d'eau Deuce, there's not much around there - so hiring a car was the best thing we did, to explore the island - something that everyone should do if you can. - Driving at night (for us Brits!) I found was a bit scary, as there's not much in the way of street lighting - Google maps/apple maps are not fully optimised in Mauritius, so just be careful when using Google maps, as we ended up a few times in the parking lot of sugar cane factories and on desolate roads !! - but managed to find what we needed eventually - Buy an Emtel SIM card, which costs about £20 for 30 days and has unlimited data/texts and 5g. Just stick it in your existing UK handset (so long as it's unlocked) - we just picked ours up from the petrol station, just outside of the airport In summary, we had the BEST time on this beautiful paradise island, and especially in the hotel. So for anyone thinking of going - just do it! It's truly amazing. Well done Tropical Attitude Hotel and all of your staff, you made our holiday unforgettable! xx Read less

From Karen who greeted us on arrival, to Kamili who kept our villa spotless and made fabulous towel sculptures. The serving staff and chefs were great. Nothing was too much trouble. They even organised an anniversary meal where we were served by Sunil and made to feel very special. Although there is no beach at the hotel, we walked 5 minutes around the corner and there it was. Stunning location. There is no shortage of sunbeds to use but we enjoyed the sun deck with it's fabulous sea view, and the hammock at our villa with the plunge pool. The free trip to the island was fab but you do need to book in advance. Nightly entertainment was very good. Overall we had a very memorable holiday. Read less

My wife and I spent 10 days at Tropical Attitude in a private villa to celebrate my 39+1 birthday. This was our first visit to the island, we booked a transfer (not through the hotel) and it's a bit of a trek from the airport, but absolutely worth it. We had booked directly as all inclusive - which here is from the moment you arrive until the moment you depart not check-in time to check-out time, which is nice. We had the option of early check-in or late check-out and had opted for the former. Our room wasn't quite ready on arrival (which was pretty early as flight landed at 07:40), so we went for breakfast while they finished it off, and it was ready not long after. The villa was fantastic, they are NOT beachfront though so be warned, and are a bit of a walk, however they are bright, airy, fabulous bathroom with double shower, aircon was perfect, outside was even better, a fabulous covered seating area to hide from the brutal sun, good sun loungers, and the plunge pool a lovely thing to cool off in (despite itself still being pretty warm) - worth it if you can do it! Food options were good for the duration - egg station for breakfast and plenty of choice a-la-carte lunch offerings are good, as is the little food truck ("Taba-j"). Dinner probably the weakest of the three in the main restaurant, but Kot Nou was a lovely evening, with fabulous service...my wife couldn't decide between two starters, so they gave her both! They do a couple of other specific evenings, there was a BBQ evening which we had but frankly it was a little disappointing though not complaint worthy. No fights for sun loungers here, during the day the resort is pretty quiet as people go on day trips/excursions (or stay in their villas), no big queue at the bar which served decent cocktails all day long (and good morning ice-coffees too) The little shop to grab some beers and soft drinks each day (or top-up tea/coffee/snacks) is also great. My wife had a couple of spa treatments which she said were very good. This might only be rated as a 3* and I suppose in some respects it might be viewed that way, but in plenty of others, it simply isn't. If you want somewhere to relax and unwind, I've been to fewer better places. I'd love to return in the future for another entirely relaxing holiday, where the staff truly go the extra mile, and even the odd random downpour doesn't dampen the spirits Read less

We had the most amazing honeymoon at tropical attitude. We stayed for 10 days in villa 105. The service was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Air Mauritius left our luggage in Gatwick so we were without luggage for 31 hours. The hotel kindly called air Mauritius for us to get an update on our bags. Our villa was maintained by Kamini and she did an amazing job. She always chatted to you when she saw you and always checked what things you needed and wanted for the room. And always did amazing towel art! As we could evidence it was our honeymoon by emailing a copy of our marriage certificate, we were left a gift on our bed and treated to a complimentary leg massage. We chose to upgrade this to a full body massage. If you get the chance to go to the spa, I would recommend. It was amazing! The cocktails were delicious and all the bar staff were lovely. The food was amazing. Breakfast was similar each day but with lots of variety. Lunch is an à la carte menu. We made our way through quite a few options and none disappointed. The taba-j also did really good food and was very convenient if you’d been out of the hotel during the lunch service. Dinner was the highlight for me. Amazing food with such a good variety each night. One night we paid to have a BBQ. It’s worth the money. You can choose between seafood or meat. We went with meat. It was a really big plate of food with lots of different meats. We also ate at Kot Nou. That was a really lovely experience. Book in if you get the chance. We did our excursions through the hotel. They were really good. Everyone was so welcoming and attentive. The hotel has their own taxi service so the tours we did were reliable and informative. The catamaran tour was brilliant! We had such an amazing time. It was everything we wished for and more. There’s so much to do in Mauritius so we’d love to come back. Thank you again! Read less
