Owned by our own Sir Richard Branson, this is one of the most luxurious and exclusive game lodges in the world. It is located amid the breathtaking landscapes of Sabi Sands and combines exceptional service with a superb safari experience - what could be better? If you like to keep yourself close to the ground and the passing wildlife, you'll enjoy Safari Lodge - with treehouse inspired rooms and suites, all with private decks. Your day starts early with a cup of tea and then it's out to the 4WDs in search of the reserve's exciting creatures. Then it's back to the lodge for a delicious hearty breakfast and a chance to enjoy the impressive leisure facilities. This was our third visit to Ulusaba, and somehow it still leaves us completely spellbound every single time. There simply aren’t enough words to capture the magic of the place. From the moment you arrive, you’re wrapped in warmth by the most knowledgeable, passionate and genuinely friendly team/family. A huge thanks to our ranger James and tracker Orange, who were an awesome team. Their skill, humour, and endless enthusiasm turned every drive into an adventure. We saw the big 5 many times over (plus the wild dogs)! Although the leopard viewings are always a thrill, the highlight for us on this trip was tracking the Plains Camp male lions at night as they hunted (we then dined in the wine cellar while listening to the lions roar!) Other memories we'll never forget include the moment a herd of elephants pushed the lions from their kill for being in their path, plus viewing them trumpeting their irritation with wild dogs! We also had a fantastic wine tasting lunch in safari wine cellar. The food and drinks are outstanding, with a wonderfully generous all-inclusive offering (no “local drinks only” restrictions, everything on offer has clearly been researched , of superb quality and is freely flowing). The location is breathtaking and both lodges are very comfortable (safari remains our favourite due to the closeness to the wildlife). Saying this — the entire place, it's hard to describe, my wife becomes emotional everytime we leave - it is the only holiday she ever feels this way, it is something that gets under your skin and stays in your heart . We really hope the work they do in 2026 doesn't lose what they have, and doesn't push it into a more super-exclusive resort as we are already counting the days until we can return in 2027. Read less

We have been fortunate enough to stay at Ulusaba Safari Lodge on several occasions. We were travelling with friends. Ulusaba never fails to amaze. We saw all of the Big 5 on our first drive out. Our Ranger, David, and tracker, Don, are incredible. Their tracking skills are nothing short of spectacular and they also are very knowledgeable, great fun and have a good sense of humour. They went out of their way to make things special for us which we all greatly appreciated. It is the staff that make Safari Lodge stand out from other lodges we have stayed at. We can’t name everyone on this review but must give special mention to Anre for arranging a special event for us and to Patience for her lovely welcome and for being there when we needed her. The tree house overlooking the dam where lots of animals come to drink is amazing and makes Safari lodge so different from any other lodge we have visited. The food is excellent and the overall ambience cannot be beaten. The wildlife sightings are better here than in Madikwe and Timbavati in our experience. We are sad that the lodge is being redeveloped into an all suite lodge as we feel it is perfect as it is. Read less

We always rate a hotel on how they deal with problems and not the reviews people leave. We were extremely disappointed with the way our problem was handled by customer service after our stay. Upon checkout, I was charged twice for additional services we used during our stay. Getting my money back took a month and I had to use several different email addresses in South Africa and also in the UK to get this finally resolved. Some of these Virgin customer emails never responded, others did after a whole week, others did at times and I heard no more from them, so I had to chase the matter myself. I never had the same Virgin staff dealing with this and it looked like a mess with no-one following up my case. I asked specifically NOT to be left out of pocket for a mistake I did not commit, because a refund involving another international currency would probably mean I would lose out with the exchamge rate. And I was eventually refunded LESS THAN WHAT I WRONGLY CHARGED. When you pay over £1300 a night, you expect better. Very unhappy, extremely feel let down. We had enjoyed our stay and this has left us with a sour taste. Read less

The name on the wall of Safari Lodge is very accurate, 'Heaven on Earth', sums this place up beautifully. The location in the Sabi Sands is great, the facilities and staff are fantastic and the game viewing continues to take our breath away even after 6 visits !!
