How are we possibly going to be able to see the rest of the World, when Ulusaba exists, and we only ever want to vacation there? The entire Ulusaba staff is remarkable, and we could not have enjoyed our stay more. The genuine hospitality and attention to detail was captivating and very much appreciated. Special shoutout to Peter and Respect for being the most incredible, knowledgeable, personable, and engaging guides to our first of many Safaris. Also a big thank you to Richard and Genene for their aid in shaping such a wonderful trip. And Sharon kept our rooms immaculate. Too many names for us to remember, but the faces and memories will live with us always. While we didn't get a chance to meet Chef Ian yet, he was incredibly diligent and helpful with shipping the paintings we purchased. Thank you for everything and we seriously cannot wait to come back! Side note - we love the Ulusaba Tales! We took all of them home to read as bed time stories to our pups! Read less

This review represents the best visit to anywhere I’ve had anywhere in the world. I give Ulusaba 9 stars not 5. Ulusaba is simply magnificent. At every level. The staff are so kind and friendly reflecting a magnificent culture. The food beyond awesome. The rooms are just perfect. The cleanliness is amazing for a “bush” experience. The spa was sublime. And there’s the game drives. Guided by tracker Harold (he should get employee of the year hands down) and guide Brad (who was just brilliant) we had fun, we saw so many lion, leopard, lion cubs, hyena, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu and on and on. But what marked this out for me was the respect the guides have both for each other and the animals. They did not “hog” a sighting but shared it considerately. They stuck rigidly to the two or three trucks at a sighting. They never drive on wet areas so as not to damage things. Ulusaba was perfect. Take a bow everyone that works there. It was phenomenal. This was our fifth stay at Ulusaba so obviously we love being there but it poses the challenge of it living up to or indeed surpassing our previous visits. We weren’t concerned about this as we knew we would love our stay and have a lot of fun and excitement. The game drives are dependent on the animals, luck and timing which are not in anyone’s control. As we had spent a few days in Franschhoek before coming to Ulusaba we had to travel from Cape Town to Skukuza and from there we were driven through Kruger and Sabi Sand to the Ulusaba airstrip where we would normally arrive with FedAir. Although the drive was interesting and our driver very informative we much preferred the FedAir experience. At the airstrip we met our ranger and tracker. We have not requested rangers and trackers from previous visits as we are very confident that everyone is excellent, as indeed they all have been, and leave things to chance! Chance delivered us James and Orange on this occasion. It turns out that this safari was going to be special from the very first drive! A female cheetah with three cubs at a kill, wild dogs chasing impala, hyenas following closely behind the hunting dogs, a bird chewing on a snake and two rhinos fighting ( not playing as blood was drawn on each). Then as we enjoyed our sundowners the hyenas came to watch us curiously. A nice start. Over the next few days we became very familiar with the sights and sounds of lions grooming, elephants dining, buffaloes wallowing and leopards mating again and again and …. just extraordinary! The food was super at every meal, I particularly loved every lunch and the ice cream whilst my wife was absolutely delighted with her vegetarian meals which were outstanding. The staff are as usual superb and made us feel part of the Ulusaba family. We met some old friends amongst the staff and new faces who will become future old friends ! Thanks for the fun and laughs to our fellow guests both on our vehicle and on the others at Safari Lodge, the communal table was great fun. Renovations are in the air for Ulusaba so who knows when we can return but we certainly shall. Special thanks to Anre , Sidney and crew for organising things so well and of course to Gugu and Sli for the magnificent massages! Finally thanks to chance for delivering James and Orange to us. We are so grateful to have had the privilege of spending so much time with these guys. We will never forget the sightings you brought us to, Ferrari safaris etc but most of all we won’t forget the laughs and banter, we had the time of our lives! I’m sure that pink rifle bag will be yours someday James but please save it for when we are there! Read less

Excellent visit to a very special place, with warm, helpful and friendly staff. Wonderful viewing of wildlife which was expertly driven and managed by Brogan our Ranger and James our Tracker. Ulusaba provides a lovely balance of comfort and service without losing any of the magic the location has to offer.

There will never be enough words to describe the magic of Ulusaba - a safari here is out of this world. It isn't just the opportunity to see the animals BUT it's the whole Ulusaba experience from the wonderful staff, the food, the stunning rooms & all the small touches during your stay - you are made to feel special. Ulusaba will forever have a place in my heart and I will return for more magical visits. We did a split stay between Rock lodge & Safari lodge and as it was our honeymoon we were very lucky to receive upgrades to the Makwela Dawn suite and later River room 4 - they were out of this world. The staff at both lodges go out of their way to make your stay perfect - they are super friendly, helpful and make you feel like you are part of the family. We couldn't have asked for a better experience on our game drives than Vincent and Donald gave us - warm, friendly, super knowledgable and the best at tracking animals. A massive thank you to them both - especially for the last day and that cheetah sighting. The Ulusaba experience is unbelievable - staying here is a MUST. Enjoy the delights of African hospitality and safari - trust me you won't regret it. Read less
