We stayed 4 nights at Ulusaba’s Safari Lodge in one of the River Rooms, and I can honestly say it was life-changing. I’ve traveled to many beautiful places, but I’ve never cried leaving one until Ulusaba. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by warmth, kindness, and genuine care. The people make this place extraordinary. Vincent, our ranger, and Don, our tracker, were absolutely phenomenal, so knowledgeable, funny, and deeply connected to the land and its animals. We learned so much from them, and by the end, they truly felt like family. We saw the Big 5, a cheetah, and even Saturn through a telescope one night at the observatory, moments that felt almost surreal. Every game drive held new magic, and every meal was perfection. The lodge itself is stunning, seamlessly blending luxury with the wild beauty of the bush. Even when heavy rain caused a few small leaks, it only added to the authenticity of the experience. We felt completely safe, cared for, and deeply at peace. Leaving was honestly emotional. This trip didn’t just give us memories; it gave me perspective, gratitude, and a deep connection to this incredible place. I can’t stop thinking about it and am even planning to get an Ulusaba tattoo as a reminder of what it meant to me. We’ll definitely be back once renovations are complete (though I thought it was already perfect). Thank you to everyone at Ulusaba for touching our hearts in a way that words can barely describe. We were met at the gate by Michael who immediately picked up that our dream was to see a leopard. A quick drive to the camp, upgrade to the safari suite, pick up John our tracker and the other four guests, then we were out on our first drive. Two leopards later and we were back being fed with the other 10 guests in the camp. Michael and John were astounding. Every whim, photo opportunity and drink or snack was provided. The game drives were just full of animals. Our Land Rover, ably driven by Michael and guided by John, ambled into the bush to get the best viewing every time. Then there was the Safari Suite. Front garden with private boma and eating area. Deck at the back with plunge pool and seating all overlooking the riverbed. Airy sitting room, huge bed and two bathrooms. Every drink you could imagine in the included mini bar – even a bottle of Champagne! Every member of staff happy, chatty and helpful. A truly magnificent adventure not to be missed. Read less

We spent four unforgettable days at Ulusaba Private Game Reserve this September, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. The Safari experience was amazing, thanks to excellent rangering and tracking by Mike and John. Mike and John are a great team and they really make an effort to provide us with the best experience. We were fortunate to witness an astonishing array of animals up close: lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, buffalos, alligators, wild dogs, antelopes, owls, and even a snake! One of the most thrilling moments was tracking a pack of wild dogs as they hunted. Mike and John’s ability to anticipate and follow the action was masterful. Our stay in both the Rock and Safari lodge was simply wonderful! What amazed us most was how close the wildlife came. It was surreal and every moment felt like a scene from a nature documentary. Food was great, with opportunities for both private, romantic dining and dining with fellow guests. — Nadia & Ryan, Hong Kong Read less

Wonderful staff, activities and food. The lodges, while comfortable and close to nature, are looking tired. The results of the 2026 redevelopment will be good to see.

I will start this review by saying I spent hours and hours researching safari lodges in the Sabi Sands. My family and I chose Ulusaba because it looked like it had the perfect blend between luxury and safari, and was at the price point we were willing to pay. To cut to the chase, we could not have been more happier with our selection and I would highly, highly recommend Ulusaba to you if fits your price point. This was an 11/10 stay for us. First, the staff at Ulusaba make this place feel like home. Everybody, from the manager to the wait staff could not have been kinder nor more accommodating. This homey feel also creates a family and communal feel at the lodge. You are greeted and met by so many individuals when you walk through the door. Dinners are conducted as a group; although, you can eat dinner individually if you like. The whole lodge also has a happy hour after the evening game drives where you can talk to your neighbors about what you saw. To sum it all up, the soft product is so good at this lodge from the service to the genuinely kind people who will be serving you. You get to learn a lot about the staff you interact with and that was the best part for me. This was most evident by us being able to request to eat breakfast and dinner with our tracker and ranger. The game drives are also excellent. The staff here really shine as they are all experts and love what they do. Ulusaba also seems to be in a really advantageous location within the Sabi Sands as I felt like we got to see it all and traverse a lot of beautiful land. There is probably a lot more I can say, but it is easiest to sum it up by saying every aspect of this lodge gets at least a 9/10 for me. The soft product and hard product merge so well together this place is operating at a very high standard. The lodge grounds fit so well into the beautiful game reserve. Lastly, to James and Orange, thank you for six amazing game drives where we got to see all we wanted and more. Beyond that, thank you for being kind and knowledgeable human beings and making this the experience what it was for us. To Richard, thank you for going out of your way so many times to make the lodge feel like home. To Kieth and Brighton, thank you for being so kind, sharing your story, and welcoming us to your home. We cannot wait to be back some day. Read less
