We spent our honeymoon at Villa Nautica, and our stay was nothing short of exceptional. The room, the service, and the attention to every detail were all truly 10/10. We were greeted with an unforgettable surprise upon arrival — we had been upgraded to a water villa. Our host, Sayuru, was incredibly friendly and assisted us throughout our stay whenever we needed anything. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive everywhere we went. The food at the hotel was very good, and the cocktails were decent. The pool area was absolutely stunning. It was also nice that there was different evening entertainment, ranging from live music to a fire show. The only downside was that snorkeling from the shore didn't meet our expectations, as there wasn't much to see. On our last day, our flight departed late in the evening, Sayuru arranged another room for us to use until departure, which made the day incredibly comfortable and stress-free. 2 wonderful weeks in the Sunrise Deluxe Villa with pool made these holidays unforgettable. It’s quiet, you can snorkel by high tide and see hundreds of little fish. Attention!! Misleading listing, disappointing experience Alert! Misleading Photos, False Representation, and Unacceptable Conditions of Beach Villa The listing on Booking.com presents this room type with three bright, well-maintained, and clean-looking photos. However, these images are clearly manipulated and misleading, bearing little resemblance to the reality we encountered upon arrival. The actual villa was in a deplorable, unpleasant looking, unattractive and worn-out condition — with heavily used bathtub, stained and unevenly repainted walls, and an overall neglected atmosphere. This was a complete misrepresentation. The property advertises itself as a 5-star resort, yet the Beach Villa we received does not deserve any star rating at all. It is frankly an embarrassment to the Maldives and to the resort itself. Furthermore, the property’s 9.1 rating on Booking.com is misleading and not representative, as it clearly reflects the experience of guests staying in higher-category rooms — not this one. After writing a complaint to the hotel reception host, we were told the only way to change rooms was to pay an additional €1000+, which we reluctantly accepted because the Beach Villa was simply not the environment where you want to spend your 5-7.000 € holiday. So We felt we had no choice but to pay, as staying there would have ruined the remainder of our holiday. After this experience, we filed a complaint through Booking.com regarding the misleading photos used to advertise the Beach Villa. Through them, we received a refund of about 10% of the total amount we had paid for the Beach Villa and the forced room change. In our opinion, this was only a small fraction of what should have been refunded. We were forced to spend valuable holiday time in anger and negotiations because of the hotel’s deception—something they effectively acknowledged by issuing even a partial refund. Later on Other guests we met on the island told us they had booked the same Beach Villa category but were upgraded without extra charge right from the first day. We, however, were placed in an unpleasant room and treated differently, which made the situation even more frustrating. I have visited multiple Maldivian resorts before, so I have a solid basis for comparison. This island simply does not deliver a 5-star experience, neither in accommodation nor in atmosphere. Island Location & Atmosphere – Far From a Tropical Paradise The island lies directly under the flight path of departing planes. Expect loud aircraft every 10–20 minutes throughout the day. In addition: • constant speedboat, seaplane, jet ski traffic • industrial atmosphere on the south side • six large, old ships anchored around the island • view of tall metal structures and distant apartment buildings of Malé • large breakwater and reef blocking the open-ocean view This is not the peaceful, tropical Maldivian scenery you expect for a luxury holiday. The beach itself: • sand is coarse and filled with coral pieces • large areas look neglected • rows of dying plants along the Beach Villa area create a neglected, depressing feel Additional Details • Meals in the restaurant repeat after one week • Bars prices: beer $9–10, cocktails $10–20 + tax + 10% service charge • Mandatory speedboat transfer is $185 per person • Pool loungers are fully reserved by 9 AM The evening programs are repetitive, during our 10 night stay the fire show was performed three times. The exchange rate unfavorable to pay $1200 we paid about €50 more compared to the standard mid market rate. does not deliver a 5-star experience, neither in accommodation nor in atmosphere.Final Verdict: Not Recommended Do not choose this resort if you expect: • a true tropical island experience • a relaxing, peaceful environment • a modern and pleasant looking beach villa • a fair and transparent service Pro Tip If after all this you still choose this island and book a Beach Villa, do not accept the room upon arrival. The photos do not reflect the villa’s real condition. Demand accommodations that actually meet the resort’s advertised 5-star standard, especially when you are paying thousands of dollars for your holiday.
