The hotel

Not just a hotel, Zilwa Attitude is more of an experience, embracing the life of the islanders. With a relaxed village feel, it is packed with authentic Mauritian experiences so you’ll truly feel like one of the natives after a week or two here. In a beautiful location, overlooking endless stretches of sandy beach and with stunning views of no less than five islands, it is a slice of heaven. Just a few minutes away by boat, or a short paddle, is Grand Zil where you can while away a few hours on a lounger and perhaps tuck in to a barbecue lunch — or enjoy a rejuvenating massage on the smaller Ti Zil. Rooms are inspired from traditional seaside bungalows and are contemporary in design but rustic too with rough white-washed walls and brushed cement floors. Embracing bright colours, there's a choice of room types, as well as family rooms, apartments and suites by the sea. Book a treatment at the world-class spa and take some time to chill on a day bed in the relaxation garden whilst listening to the twitter of birdsong. As you kick back, the little ones will be kept happy at the kids' club, with a fun garden, a games room and a large boat to explore and escape the sun ! There are seven restaurants at Zilwa, offering cuisines from European to Creole, Indian and Asian, and the All Inclusive dine-around experience means you can discover wonderful varied meals each day of your stay.

Where is it

On the north coast of Mauritius, in Kalodyne, close to the fishermen’s village of Grand Gaube. Transfer time from Mauritius International Airport: approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Please note that if taking a seat in coach this may be longer depending on how many hotel stops are en route.

Hotel information

214 rooms and suites, set in two half moons, infused with Mauritian identity. All with air-conditioning, satellite TV, complimentary WiFi, telephone, mini-bar*, tea/coffee-making facilities, hairdryer, safe, iron and ironing board, and souvenir flip flops. 

Superior Rooms with terrace or balcony have 1 double-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 1 child under 12 years.

All Inclusive of: breakfast in the main buffet restaurant Karay. Lunch at Lor Disab beach restaurant, Gran Zil BBQ and Taba-J snack bar. Traditional Mauritian afternoon tea at Taba-J snack bar (sweet, savouries and pancakes). Dinner in the main buffet restaurant Karay, Tadka Restaurant, Kot Nou and Manao. Guests also enjoy two dinners at Lor Disab beach restaurant (reservations required, minimum stay 5 nights). Alcoholic, non-alcoholic, and hot beverages including water, soft drinks, juice, locally bottled spirits, beer, wine by the glass, and filter coffee. A selection of drinks and snacks at the bulk shop from 8:00am-11:00pm. Tea, coffee and sweet local goodies from 3:30pm-6:00pm at Taba-J. Local snacks served with evening drinks. Mini-bar with water, beer, soft drinks, juice and dry snacks (replenished once per day). Picnic baskets available for day excursions. Plus 20% discount on one Mauritian massage for bookings 9:00am–2:00pm (minimum stay 5 nights).Please note: All Inclusive is available from time of arrival to time of departure. Selected menu items may incur a supplement, charged locally. Dinner reservations may be required. Guests may enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in one of the other Attitude Hotels (applies to a selection of restaurants subject to availability, prior booking required, transfers not included).

Room upgrades

Superior Partial Sea View Rooms, Superior Sea View Rooms (with views across the gardens and pool towards the sea) and Superior Beachfront Rooms all have 1 double-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 1 child (under 12 years).

Family Rooms feature a main bedroom area and adjacent living area with canopy bed which converts to a sofa bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 2 children/teens.

Family Deluxe Rooms have two en-suite bedrooms (one with double bed and a kids' room with 3 single beds), sleeping maximum 2 adults and 3 children or 2 adults and 2 teens.

Family Apartments consist of two interconnecting Superior Rooms that share a joined entrance hall. Family Apartments Sea View consist of two interconnecting Superior Sea View Rooms (double beds or twin beds) that share a joined entrance hall. They sleep maximum 4 adults and 2 children.

Couples Deluxe Partial Seaview Rooms and Couples Deluxe Beachfront Rooms (with direct sea view) both have 1 double-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Couples Junior Suite Beachfront Rooms with a separate living room, and 1 double-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Couples Privilege Suite Sea View or Couples Privilege Suite Beachfront, both with jacuzzi and 1 double-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

All Couples rooms and suites include bathrobes.

Karay (main buffet restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner), Manao (Thai restaurant, open for dinner), Lor Disab (adult-only beach restaurant, open for lunch and dinner), Tadka (Indian cuisine, open for dinner), Kot Nou (Mauritian cuisine, open for dinner), Gran Zil BBQ (located on private island, open for lunch), and Taba-J (Mauritian street food, open for lunch). 4 bars: Siro Kann main bar, Lor Disab beach bar, juice bar and Tea Baz (tea bar).

We stayed at Zilwa Attitude from 12th to 14th April (2 nights, 3 days) on an all-inclusive basis, and it was truly a wonderful experience. On the first day, we received a warm welcome upon arrival. The staff clearly explained all available activities, along with the timings and locations for meals, including lunch, tea time, breakfast, and dinner. During lunch at Ilot restaurant, Dooshita took great care of us—she was extremely friendly and attentive, and she made sure we were comfortable throughout. On the second day, we started with a delicious and fulfilling breakfast. We then enjoyed several water activities, including a pedalo and a glass-bottom boat trip, during which we saw beautiful corals and fish. For lunch, we went to Lor Disab restaurant, which offered a wide variety of dishes. Later, we spent time in the pool and even joined a fun game of water polo with other guests, guided by one of the staff members (I believe her name was Geshini). On the third day, we visited Grand Zil for some sightseeing before checking out at 12 pm. As all-inclusive guests, we were still able to enjoy lunch and tea time until 3:30 pm, which was a great bonus. Before leaving, we even ordered takeaway pizzas, and they were absolutely delicious. I would also like to extend a special thank you to all the F&B staff who took excellent care of us throughout our stay. A special mention goes to the team at Sirokann Bar for preparing such amazing mocktails and cocktails. Overall, it was a memorable and relaxing stay, and I would definitely come back to this hotel. Our 2nd week of our honeymoon and it didn’t disappoint. You’re greeted with stunning views as you enter Zilwa, it’s a beautiful hotel with brilliant staff. Nabaraj at the bar was always around to make sure we were happy and had a drink in our hands. The Thai restaurant was a personal favourite for me and my wife, food was excellent and service was brilliant with very friendly staff. The beach BBQ lunch is an incredible place to spend a few hours, the rum and coke are nice and cold and the food was just out of this world good. We also love how the hotel care for the 4 or so stray dogs that wonder the beach area, we’ve read many reviews on how stray dogs are treated at certain places in Mauritius so to see them looking so relaxed and happy and knowing they’re shown respect, cared for and fed was really good to see. A holiday that will last in our memories forever! From the moment you arrive, exhausted from a 12 our flight, you walk in and the view just captivates you. It took us 3 days before it actually felt real! We were a family of 3 me, my husband and our 8 year old son, this hotel is perfect for a family holiday. There was so much to do and we never got bored. We thought the food was exceptional the lamb chops in the Indian restaurant were beyond amazing. If you are AI try all the restaurants twice we did with no issue booking them at all. Everything was just simple and easy which is what you want on holiday. We met some great people and made friends, it was that kind of happy chilled vibe and everyone bought into it. Loved Aqua gym (I don’t usually do those sort of activities!) Miguel was brilliant. Jonathan deserves his own gold star though! I’m sure it was him that kept that cool happy vibe going every night with his attention to detail, not just to adults but he made the kids feel special too, great guy a real asset to the hotel. We did our own trips, under water sea walking at grand baie (a must) and Valle park the hotel seamlessly organised our taxis both drivers were fab. Book it, you won’t regret it! Read less
