The hotel

Pure paradise if you’re heading to Hawaii for its beaches, Alohilani boasts contemporary design and is steps from Waikiki Beach’s exclusive ‘Kuhio’ stretch. You can be snorkelling, surfing or swimming just moments after you arrive. If that’s not enough water, Alohilani Resort’s 280,000 gallon Oceanarium is filled with Hawaiian reef fishes, creating a soothing setting for drinks at O Bar and island breakfasts at Lychee. And, if your aquatic thirst still isn’t quenched, the fifth floor pool deck’s an impeccably chic setting, with its infinity pool, paddling pool, bar, overstuffed teak loungers, driftwood sculptures, and ocean views. You could even splash out on a cabana or water lounger. By night, it’s a magical space with lanterns, fire pits, and live music, ideal after dining in one of its two restaurants led by world-famous ‘Iron Chef’ Masaharu Morimoto.

A great location and close to all the activities in Waikiki. A nice sandy and protected beach right across the street that is great for kids and relaxing. A beach area without the break wall is nearby if you want to experience the ocean without the bigger waves. Clean hotel and beautiful lobby and aquarium. We would stay there again.

ONLY location is good! If you have some problem with your room, nobody solves the problems. It's so hard to contact the person at the hotel. Nobody answers. Mold smell! The toilet clogged.

Do expect delays when checking in. Rooms can still be cleaning prior and even after your arrival time. Make sure to lock your doors to any adjoining rooms. That's definitely an experience with a kid from next door. Pool and hot tub were not used. There was not too much excess nuisance noise from the surrounding areas. It's nice to have an… Read more

It's nice to have an attached ABC store but if you want to save money definitely walk over to the Target store at the international market which is just 5 minutes away. Other than that. There are pretty good breakfast places nearby like Waikiki Brunch. Reasonable price and portions are large. Everything is walkable distance if you do not intend on renting a car. Read less

Ive given the Alohilani a "good" rating as some things were done well and others not so much. The pool area is great with a DJ in the weekend. The bed was very comfortable. Access to the tennis courts. Pickle ball, gym and classes was very good. The longboard lounge was a 6/10. Greta staff, comfortable but the food and drink selection was average.… Read more

The greatest flaws were the musty smelling hallways, the room could have done with a deep clean and the noise at night. Would we choose to stay here again? It would not be our first choice but would reconsider it. Read less

I want to preface this review by saying that I am not a first-time guest. I have stayed at this property multiple times and, more importantly, have referred hundreds of clients here over the years, many of who have active bookings. This review is not written lightly. This most recent trip was a combination of family travel and business, with a specific purpose: I had a deadline to report back to a corporate client about booking the Alohilani for a group event. Unfortunately, what I experienced made that recommendation impossible. Communication The single most alarming issue was the total failure of communication at every level. I contacted the front desk, however was denied a transfer to the sales department. When I specifically asked for the Director of Sales' email, I was given two generic email addresses and concluded with, "Don't worry, we will make sure this gets to Jamie." Both generic emails provided to me at that time by the front desk received no response. My response emails to the automated booking confirmations, asking if there was anything they could assist with, also went unanswered. My attempt to make contact the day of check-in went unanswered as well. The front desk agent who assisted me with check-in acknowledged my concerns and stated they would personally send a follow-up email on my behalf to the sales department. Upon following up with that same front desk attendant regarding those emails, she confirmed that they too had gone unanswered. Because of this, I am no longer able to consider or promote the Alohilani to my clients, which is genuinely embarrassing, as I had already spoken highly of this property to several of them based on its location, pool amenities, and nightly entertainment. Family Stay The rooms are comfortable and clean. The location is excellent. The nightly entertainment is genuinely fun and a highlight of the stay. I want to be fair about that. However, pricing has increased significantly since my previous visits, and the level of service has not kept pace. It has, in fact, declined. For what you are paying, the overall experience outside of those few bright spots is overpriced and underwhelming. I have had better experiences at far more budget-friendly properties. For a short family getaway, there are options that will deliver more value without the frustration. Business, Events & Weddings: Proceed With Caution This is the most important part of this review. If you are considering this property for something that requires reliable communication and coordination, like a corporate event, a wedding, or a group booking, I would urge extreme caution. Based on my direct experience, the communication infrastructure is simply not there. Anything with moving parts, timelines, and stakeholders depending on responsiveness is a significant risk at this property in its current state. I sincerely hope this reflects a temporary shift in management or operations, because the bones of this resort are genuinely good. But until that changes, I cannot in good conscience recommend it for anything beyond a casual, low-stakes visit where you have no need to reach anyone on staff. Read less
