It is hard to imagine that there’s a better, more well equipped and stunningly located hotel in the Clearwater area. We had a great stay at Opal Sands, top floor room with our family of four comfortably accommodated, a lovely pool area which although busy was never crowded, access to the gorgeous beach was unbearable, literally steps from the hotel. I could go on. We would definitely go back. Not cheap - but we got what we paid for and the location of the hotel in the Clearwater area and its proximity to all the main amenities meant we didn’t need a car for our relaxing beach stay! Upon arrival our bags were taken to our room by Matty who was extremely helpful explaining how the room has great sunset views, the location of the pantry with water, ice and fresh cookies and letting the children know about ice cream o'clock around the pool each day. Valet parking was quick and efficient. The room was clean and nicely decorated, the wardrobe is quite small for 4 people sharing. The beds were comfortable and the gowns a nice touch. The view from the balcony and the loungers around the pool meant we saw dolphins and manatees. The room accommodates 4 but there are only 2 chairs on the balcony. Access to the beach is direct from the hotel and it's only a short walk to local shops and restaurants. It would have been a 5 star review had the hotel handled a complaint about someone smoking weed from a nearby room better, I was expected to know which room the smell was coming from and whilst an offer was made on 2 occasions to send a text to guests reminding them of the no smoking policy. I saw no evidence that this happened and it spoilt our enjoyment of the balcony and room for us and our children. I requested a room change which the hotel refused. Read less
