We were staying at this hotels sister hotel, we came for the day. The beach was bigger, but that was all it had over our hotel. What staff there was seemed unhappy, avoiding guest. The food was mediocre at best. Building work was going on. So pleased we didn’t book it for 2 weeks

The food was very good, especially in the alacarte where we got a candle lit dinner on our wedding anniversary. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Special mentions to Vidushi on reception, Jeshan in the restaurant, and our cleaner Devika, who kept our room lovely and clean. It is certainly a hotel that we would visit again. Read less

Nishta in the restaurant is so lovely 🥰 a real credit to the hotel (as is Diane) The facilities of the Azuri hotel were open to us along with complimentary taxis to and fro The Black Rock and Italian were great and never really busy. The Aqua Restaurant was also very good 😊 We were upgraded to Superior Ocean view rooms which were newly refurbished, there was some renovation works going on but it didn’t really bother us. The restaurant manager was a gem (sorry can’t remember his name) There are too many people to name, all are equally as good 👍 The pool is chilly but welcome on the hotter days. It is quite windy but again this is a welcome relief to the intensity of the sun. We stayed on SPF 50 and 30 all holiday. Our room was 3107, a nice location, we had a balcony with a table and 2 chairs but most other ocean view in our block had Juliette balconies. I would recommend this hotel but probably wouldn’t return as the world is a huge place! Read less

Before arriving, we had read some very negative recent reviews of this hotel and were unsure what to expect. We should not have worried. In our experience we found everything as good as we had hoped for, and well suited to our needs. The rural location is well away from other distractions and essentially self-contained, although a shuttle bus runs several times a day to a sister hotel 10 minutes away to the north if a change of scene is desired. This has a range of shops and additional facilities and activities that are available to the Poste Lafayette guests. Being on the east coast, there is a fairly constant prevailing southerly breeze which can take the edge off high temperatures. (We had stayed for a couple of days on the more sheltered west coast before arriving here, and the numerically identical temperatures felt much higher there.) The outside sunbathing areas of the hotel grounds have generally been arranged to provide shelter from this breeze. The beach itself is natural, consisting of fairly coarse crushed coral and shell being in fairly close proximity to the fringing reef, so don't expect to lie on fine white talcum powder-like sand. There are plenty of umbrellas/beds available anyway, if lying around is what you travel half way round the world to do. Good snorkeling is available right in front of the hotel in the shallow lagoon, with a great variety of fish on view, although there tends to be a fairly strong longshore northbound current. Equipment is available for loan if you haven't brought your own. Staff in the hotel were invariably attentive, friendly and always willing to assist. The hotel grounds, communal areas and beach were continually being cleaned and maintained. Our room (a first floor superior ocean view with Juliette balcony) was relatively large and probably recently renovated. (Rooms with a full balcony or private terrace had the same total floor area, so the enclosed room size would consequently be smaller.) It was cleaned daily, and we were provided with fresh beach towels daily as well. There are thorough room renovations ongoing, but unless you want to spend all day in a nearby room these should not cause you any problem. There are two restaurants - the buffet Nautilus (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and the a la carte Aqua restaurant (lunch and dinner). The buffet invariably included a range of different main dishes, the theme of which changed nightly, to suit most palates, and some recurring accompaniments. In addition there was always a chef on hand to provide freshly cooked fish or meat, or eggs to order at breakfast. In the Aqua restaurant, which you need to book in advance for dinner, some dishes were clearly described to be at no additional cost to all-inclusive guests, while others were available for a supplement. This was clearly explained to us on arrival, on menus and when ordering. The same applied to drinks - some were "free" to all-inclusive guests while others incurred a supplement. It was perfectly possible to eat and drink at the Aqua restaurant on a fully all-inclusive basis, although your choice is limited. Special themed nights in the Aqua (prawns various ways, barbecue) were held twice a week, at a supplement. Organized activities were available throughout the day, but we didn't make use of these, or the Spa facilities. Evening musical entertainment was located outside but under some cover by the Aqua restaurant and bar, changed nightly and did not repeat in the 8 nights we were there. It ranged from Sega, through pop, country and western, solo violin, solo saxophone, and keyboard/vocal duos, and invariably finished by 10:30 at the latest. Given that the Mynah birds will start singing outside your window a 5am, this is not a bad thing. We hired a car for a few days while there, and found the hotel to be a good base from which to explore the north of the island. Driving was not too different from at home in the UK, apart from the wandering stray dogs and the aggressive speed bumps in built-up areas. You can reach the more sheltered beaches on the west coast in about 30 minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and were sad to leave and return to cold, grey and damp UK. Read less
