The hotel

Set against the majestic Ko’olau Mountains and overlooking Waikiki Beach, this Sheraton hotel is a real slice of heaven. With sun, sea and sand on your doorstep, indulge in water sports, land sports, wining and dining or simply stake your place in the shade and relax. There are two incredible oceanfront pools: an infinity pool for the adults, a very serene place, or family-friendly Helumoa Pool where the kids can splash to their hearts content. If a spot of pampering appeals, head to Spa Khakara for a couples massage or an individual beauty treatment. Hungry? Kai Market serves farm-to-table fare that showcases the flavours of Hawaii perfectly. It also enjoys amazing views of Diamond Head and the Pacific – a treat for the eyes as well as the taste buds! Alternatively, Rum Fire is the sensuous new spot for tapas and cocktails – boasting the country’s largest selection of vintage rum and playing live island melodies each evening. The Edge of Waikiki lives up to its name – set on the beach, it’s the perfect spot to admire the sunset over a tropical thirst quencher.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Waikiki! Its a great location, right on the beach and in walking distance to all of the city shopping & nightlife. The views were absolutely stunning — especially from the oceanfront rooms and the infinity pool overlooking Waikiki Beach. Watching the sunset from there is just magical. That said, the adult infinity pool was pretty crowded most of the time, and while it’s beautiful, it was tough to snag a spot right at the edge to enjoy those postcard-perfect views. There is a family friendly pool as well, but for obvious reasons, it was always full and loud with families. Early on in our booking the hotel, we requested a room on the corner so we could see both the beach and Diamond Head. Our request was granted and had the perfect views from our balcony, room 2564. Some floors have solid balconies for family friendly safety and some have wrought iron railings which offer much greater views. The resort had lots of fun, local goods shopping and tons of restaurants and bars to choose from w/o even leaving the hotel. This hotel was very family friendly, which isn't exactly what we were looking for unfortunately. Overall, it’s a great place to stay — amazing views, great location, and the perfect Waikiki vibe. We stay at the Sheraton Waikiki everytime we come to Oahu and we will never choose another resort. It’s great for the kids and it’s centralized to everything you need around the island.

I was traveling with my 16 year old son. We enjoyed the ocean access and the infinity pool. We spent an entire day with no issues until the night pool manager Sonny came on duty the second night of our stay. He was at first just doing his job. We had no idea but we needed orange bands to be in the pool. We were in and out of the pool all day. Even ordered lunch there. No one at any time told us to get an orange band. We did give our hotel room number when we went to the pool in the morning. It seemed to me that was in order to check out towels. In any event, 16 year olds can be in the pool. Sonny stopped us on night two insinuating that we purposefully arrived after 6 to avoid getting a band (after he told us at 6 the day prior that we needed bands). We were at Pearl Harbor all day and so Sonny is absolutely wrong in his assumptions. Sonny made me feel like a second class hotel guest. Just because we were a mom and a 16 year old boy doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be in the pool. Sonny spoke in a very condescending manner to us and to my son. I also don’t understand why pool service such as towels ends at 6 when the pool is open till 8. I along with other guests had to get towels from the front desk even though Sonny was still patrolling the pool deck. Morale of story - families with high school aged kids 16 and up aren’t really welcome here. Read less
