The Royal at Atlantis

Nassau, Bahamas

Star rating

The hotel

Throwing you into the full Atlantis experience, The Royal is as legendary as the myths that inspired and infuse them. The architecture, the artwork, the adventures — each have a cheeky nod to the Lost City of Atlantis, but the well-dressed rooms and suites are a little less kitsch, coming with French or full balconies and views over the terraces, water, or harbour. Their spot on Atlantis Paradise Island puts you right by Atlantis Casino and at the heart of the world’s largest outdoor ‘marine habitat’ — with 14 lagoons and more than 50,000 aquatic residents, from sharks to barracuda. The island’s other fabled fun’s yours for the taking too, whether its experiencing rides or slides at the 141-acre Aquaventure waterscape; snorkelling the ‘ruins’ at Atlantis; or kicking back at one of its 21 restaurants and 19 bars.

Room had a good view, but we couldn't close the curtain and it took 3 days and 2 phone calls. Very disappointing. Not service I expected as a titanium member.

Location is beautiful, however the staff were SO rude. Except London at front desk, she was warm and kind. We came across so many staff who VISIBLY eye rolled when asked questions or were approached to do their job. I know we are in the islands, but this is by no means a cheap resort. It was very frustrating and off putting. Will def give Bahamar the chance next time simply to avoid that. Additionally, our room smelt like straight up mildew and the TV channels did not work for 2 days, so couldn't watch anything at bed time. Read less

Beautiful resort. Slightly outdated compared to US standards, but the environment makes up for it. The beaches are incredible. Beautiful resort. Slightly outdated compared to US standards, but the environment makes up for it. The beaches are incredible. The water park has some sketchy attractions (be prepared for injuries in the Rapids River, and take it seriously when the disclaimer says you ride at your own risk), but my kids still had a blast. The cost is pretty steep considering nothing is included besides access to the water park, but you can make the trip more budget-friendly by bringing snacks from home, taking advantage of the free water bottles and water refill stations, and grabbing a bottle (or 2) of liquor at the airport when you arrive (free soda refills = cheap cocktails). My only real complaint is the staff. About 50% of the employees we encountered seemed annoyed that they had to wait on customers. After visiting several resorts in different parts of Mexico, I've become accustomed to exceptionally friendly and accommodating service. You won't get this at Atlantis. Shout-out to Good Lies Mini Golf, the fitness center, and Seafire Steakhouse, where ALL the staff were amazing. There were others throughout the resort, but I was definitely surprised by how many staff members were so rude. Read less

My personal experience: our room was great, we looked over the harbor and it was lovely. We stayed at The Royal. Elevators were quick, never waited long. The hotel is beautiful. The grounds, pools, water park were all exceptional. They have a lagoon/water feature between the hotel and the pools where you see sea turtles, saw fish and other amazing creatures. Awesome. There a giant aquarium accessible from the lobby, awesome. The beaches i can't describe well enough to explain how amazing they are. White, somewhat coarse sand, crystal clear water, 4 different beach experiences available from the one resort. We swam with sea turtles, saw barracuda and tons of other little fish. One downside to the beach is the idiots that rent jet skis ripping around outside the swimming area but that's not the hotel's fault. 2 things I didn't love: Water filling stations are not frequent enough and some didn't work. Best to fill you water bottle at the main bar in Royal, water is cold and clean. Second is that the food is overpriced, pretty significantly. We never had bad food ever. We just felt that the food did not meet the expectations of the prices. We ate at Amber, Seafire Grill, Morty's (Murray's?) Deli. Poseidon was the exception for us. Good value for the breakfast buffet. Read less

Hotel experience was good, beach, pool, rooms etc. Unfortunately, our wallet stolen from our room and no support from the hotel staff. So disappointing for a Hotel like Atlantis - expecting to be exclusive and highly secured place especially chosen by Family vacations.
