We recently stayed at Alila Seminyak and unfortunately left deeply disappointed, especially because we had previously enjoyed wonderful experiences at this resort.
To start with the positives, the property itself remains beautiful and immaculate. The grounds are stunning, well maintained, and the overall atmosphere of the resort is visually impressive. The rooms were comfortable and perfectly fine, though nothing particularly exceptional.
What truly impacted our experience was the service and overall hospitality. While the staff were polite on the surface, many interactions felt forced and insincere rather than genuinely warm or welcoming. The experience lacked the authentic hospitality we expected from a luxury resort.
The biggest issue occurred during check-in regarding our Fine Hotels + Resorts reservations through American Express. My husband and I each booked separate reservations under our own Amex cards specifically because each reservation should qualify for its own $100 property credit. My check-in was handled without issue and the credit was honored as expected. However, when my husband checked in, they denied his credit entirely.
We politely asked to speak with the resort manager, but instead were directed to the duty manager. What disappointed us most was not simply the outcome, but the complete lack of effort to find a reasonable solution or accommodation. There was no genuine attempt to work with us, offer alternatives, or show empathy toward the situation. Later in the stay, they offered drink tickets to the beach bar on our final day, but by then it felt like an afterthought rather than sincere service recovery. No one ever followed up with us afterward or checked in to see how we were feeling about the situation.
Overall, while the resort remains physically beautiful, the service experience felt transactional and disingenuous. Unfortunately, this stay did not reflect the level of hospitality we previously experienced here, and it left us questioning whether we would return. We also would not recommend staying here if you are expecting a genuine, traditional Balinese hospitality experience.
