Huntley Santa Monica

The hotel

Retreat to this stylish hotel in a residential pocket of Santa Monica, yet just a shell's throw from the beach and Third Street Promenade. The Huntley is both classy and playful, with a modern urban design, and those little touches that make a difference — we all love a chocolate on the pillow at turndown. But perhaps the real wow factor at the hotel is The Penthouse restaurant and lounge, where both locals and guests come up to the rooftop to watch the sunset over the Ocean. With signature cocktails (and happy hour too), and bar food like cured meats and tacos, this one is definitely worth a visit.

Con: the restaurant ( Penthouse) on the 17th floor has incredible view of the beach / ocean and sunset but twice we tried to dine there unfortunatly it was so loud with people having cocktails ( even though we asked the night before reservation if there were going to be any group at the lounge = the side where you see the sunset ) that we couldn’t even hear our selves nor the waitress so we decided to eat somewhere else. Tiny pool and no sun in the afternoon . Read less

Negative: on departure, after paying an upgrade to a different room, they add a "resort fee" which the staff comically tried to convince covered things like towels and wifi. What's next, toilet paper? I told them no way-remove it. Not sure why hotels continue to bury these fees on page 8 which leaves guests with a sour taste as the last memory of the hotel. Dumb move. Be up front about your room fees. Read less

A little pricey for what you get. $68 for valet is unacceptable no matter how much money you make. Air conditioning does not get cold. Beds are very firm.

Beware of the fees. Valet of $60 and a "resort" fee of $40. That offers you access to paid items like bike rental or the cafe. The gym is tiny and not good at all.

This is a lovely hotel. The staff was all cordial and helpful. We enjoyed two breakfasts in the Penthouse Restaurant and they were reasonably priced. Also had dinner there one evening. As others have noted the location was excellent.
