The hotel

Nestled on the beautiful beach of Flic en Flac and surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens, this relaxed resort has a welcoming Mauritian atmosphere. The outlook across the lagoon and the bay of Tamarin, with Le Morne Mountain in the distance, is impressive. Being on the west coast of Mauritius, you'll also be spoilt by amazing sunsets. The beach here is bounded by two reefs, an inner one that gives the hotel's swimming beach privacy and an outer reef where there’s a selection of complimentary water sports on offer. Enjoy the translucent, calm lagoon and keep a watch from the terrace for the dolphins that come into the bay. When it comes to dining, there's the main Tamarind Terrace restaurant, the intimate Pink Peppercorn on the beach terrace, and Spices, with its refined indoor dining room or more casual outdoor terrace. It's clear to see why this resort has a high volume of repeat guests.

Where is it

On a beautiful white-sand beach on the west coast of Mauritius overlooking the Bay of Tamarin with the majestic Le Morne Mountain as a backdrop. Near the town of Flic en Flac, with its shops, bars and restaurants. Transfer time from Mauritius International Airport: approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Please note that if taking a seat in coach this may be longer depending on how many hotel stops are en route.

Hotel information

91 elegantly appointed suites on 3 floors. All suites with sea facing balcony or terrace, air-conditioning, satellite TV, WiFi, iron and board (on request), mini-bar*, safe, hairdryer, tea/coffee-making facilities, walk-in wardrobe, bathroom with separate bath and shower. Superior Suites are on the 1st and 2nd floors with remarkable lagoon views, and have 1 king-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Half Board includes: Breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant, Tamarind Terrace. Guests can also dine around at the other two restaurants at Sands and a further three restaurants at sister hotel Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa with a credit towards the bill. Reservations may be required.

Deluxe Suites are the same as the Superior Rooms but located on the ground floor (some are interconnecting). They have a private terrace with direct access to the gardens and beach beyond, with 1 king-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Beachfront Suites are set on the ground or first floor in a premium location with direct access to the beach and magnificent views of the bay of Tamarin. They have 1 king-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Exclusive Suites are spacious and elegant, set on the first floor with one of the best views of the Indian Ocean. They have 2 balconies, a living/dining space and 2 bedrooms, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Tamarind Terrace restaurant (buffet breakfast and dinner; International and local delicacies), Spices Restaurant (Mediterranean cuisine with a local touch, open for à la carte dinner), PinkPepperCorn beach restaurant (romantic seafood dinners, reservation required). Dolphin bar.

Live evening entertainment including Mauritian music, Sega and cultural shows. Live music from local bands at the Dolphin Bar.

Fantastic stay with great staff and good options. The water sports included really allow for an enjoyable stay with a mix of relaxation and exploration! Would highly recommend The Sand Suites for a beautiful stay on the island

This is our last day… From the moment we arrived at Sands Suites Hotel & Spa in Mauritius, we knew this wasn’t going to be just another holiday. The setting, the service, the atmosphere – everything came together to make it one of the most special getaways we’ve ever had. - Location & Setting The hotel sits right at the end of Flic en Flac beach, and the surroundings are simply stunning. Between the infinity pool, the soft sandy beach just steps away, and the beautifully kept tropical gardens, it felt like we had stepped straight into a postcard. Waking up each day to views of Le Morne and Tamarin Bay was something we’ll never forget. - Service & Atmosphere What really sets this place apart is whole entire team. Every member of staff we met was warm, attentive, and genuinely eager to make our stay special. The Dolphin Bar quickly became one of our favourite spots, not just for the convenience but for the friendly faces who always greeted us with a smile. - Accommodation Our suite was spacious, spotless, and so comfortable. The little touches, a turn-down service with chocolates and thoughtful notes, a pillow menu to suit every preference, large comfy bed with a separate bathroom and a dressing room– really made us feel looked after. was peaceful too. - Dining The main restaurant was definitely a highlight, with a changed of menus every evening that kept things fresh and exciting. The food was always varied, plentiful, and delicious. You also had the choice to dine around and use use The Peppercorn or Spices Restuarant. A special thank you has to go to Jean Francoise, the Food & Beverage Manager, whose leadership really shines through in the smooth running of the whole team. The bar staff – Asgar, Rayen, Abhishea, Dev, Daniel, and Kevin – also deserve a mention for their friendliness and attentive service, always making sure we were well looked after. Beyond that, every member of the restaurant team was superb – efficient, professional, and consistently going the extra mile to make each dining experience a pleasure. Even when we had a little moan but even this didn’t phase them was rectified without hesitation - Spa & Wellness We also treated ourselves to the spa, which was pure bliss. The therapists were professional, skilled, and made us feel completely at ease – exactly the escape we needed. - Front of House The reception team were outstanding. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their warmth and efficiency made the whole stay run seamlessly. - Final Thoughts Sands Suites Hotel & Spa in Mauritius more than lived up to its name. It exceeded every expectation we had and left us with memories we’ll treasure for a long time to come. A truly five-star experience in every way – we would recommend it without hesitation. The only tiny observation we’d make is about the dress code at dinner – men are required to wear long trousers, while women are free to wear shorts. It didn’t spoil our experience in any way, but perhaps in the spirit of fairness it’s something that could be reconsidered. Read less
