Solana Beach Mauritius

The hotel

Waiting for your drinks to arrive as you laze on white sands, shaded by a coconut palm. Taking a dip in a lagoon pool among tropical plants and dining and drinking terraces. Stepping out on your balcony to soak in endless sea views before heading out for dinner. This may be the stuff of daydreams, but it’s the true island experience guests come to enjoy when staying at the adults-only Solana Beach. It does deliver a delicious cliché, but this hotel also comes with its own unique twists, like the nod to the sixties and seventies in your spacious guestroom, which is otherwise thoroughly modern. It also gives you the option to do absolutely nothing – or to pack your days with cycling, diving, snorkelling, and even complimentary glass-bottom boat trips, and your nights with island entertainment and meals in three delectable restaurants.

The room was clean, and although I was on the top floor, the sea view was amazing. The beach was also clean - I loved snorkelling here and went out several times on the boat from the boathouse next door, it’s free! The buffet food was quite repetitive, and after eating fish one evening and feeling unwell during the night and the next day, I avoided the fish and some other foods. However, the à la carte menu was great and much better than the buffet. The grounds were very clean, the gardens were beautiful, and I had a lovely massage which was definitely worth it. The gym is very basic, but it had the machines and weights needed for a workout. Be careful with the taxis outside, as I was overcharged for a short trip to the cash point. Overall, I had a relaxing holiday. The only downside was the food. Read less

Beautiful resort and location but we experienced a few issues over our 8 day stay. On arrival we got a welcome drink and snack but had to wait for our room to be ready. After 12 hours in the air, 90 minute transfer all we wanted was to freshen up and relax. When we were shown to our room we found the wooden step between the bedroom and shower room was rotten, split and collapsing. This could have caused a nasty foot injury and should never have been handed over to us in that condition. Fair play, the next day the rotten portion had been removed, replaced and made good along with a broken reading light bulb whilst we were out. We were all inclusive and the restaurant offers plenty of good quality food along with the second restaurant 'Pomelo' where you can enjoy full waiter service and the food there was excellent. However, here is where it falls down with poor service in the buffet restaurant. Frequently we were ignored, not offered a drink to accompany dinner and on the occasion we did get a drink it would arrive when we were having desert or had finished. In the end we took drinks in with us or went to the bar ourselves having been ignored, many other guests did this too. The manangement need to have a policy of no mobile phone calls in the dining areas. Each night without fail there were guests taking video calls during dinner disturbing fellow diners. On our last night we were eating in Pomelo when another guest complelty indifferent to those around her did this. We had enough and asked the waiter to tell her to stop, he did but this should not be allowed to happen, it needs stamping out. There are no wristbands to differentiate half board and all inclusive guests. Therefore you have to sign a paper receipt for EVERY SINGLE DRINK which I found old fashioned and annoying after 8 days, not to mention the waste of paper and time staff spend doing this. Different colour wristbands is an easy and obvious resolution. In summary the resort needs to connect the dots to make the experience perfect...which is what you expect. We enjoyed our stay but I fould myself looking up the beach wishing I was at Ambre where we stayed 18 months ago which is a shame. Read less

Our honeymoon stay at Solana Beach Mauritius was honestly everything we hoped for and more. From the moment we arrived, the entire experience felt special, relaxing, and incredibly well taken care of. If you're looking for a peaceful, beautiful resort in Mauritius, this place truly delivers. Location The location is absolutely stunning. The resort sits right on the beach in Belle Mare, and the views of the turquoise ocean are something you never get tired of. Sunrises here are magical, and the beach feels calm and uncrowded compared to many other places. It’s perfect if you want a peaceful atmosphere rather than a busy, party-style resort. We spent many mornings just walking along the beach and enjoying the quiet surroundings. Atmosphere The atmosphere is calm, romantic, and ideal for couples. Since it’s an adults-only resort, it feels very relaxed and peaceful. It was perfect for our honeymoon. There’s always soft music, friendly staff greeting you, and a general sense that you’re there to unwind and enjoy the island. It never felt overcrowded and there was always space by the pool or on the beach. Rooms Our room was beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable. The bed was amazing (we slept so well every night), and the view from our balcony was incredible. Everything felt fresh and well maintained. One of the highlights of our stay was how clean the room always was thanks to our wonderful housekeeping lady, Premillah. She was incredibly kind, always greeted us with a warm smile, and kept our room spotless every single day. Coming back to a perfectly cleaned room after a day at the beach made such a difference. A very special thank you to Premillah for making our stay even more comfortable. Cleanliness The cleanliness across the entire resort was outstanding. The rooms, pool area, restaurants, and beach were all very well maintained. You can really see that the staff take pride in the resort and work hard to keep everything looking beautiful. Service The service was fantastic from start to finish. The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, and you can tell they care about making guests feel happy and relaxed. Everyone was polite, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything we needed. It really made the whole experience feel personal and warm. Amenities The resort has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The pool area is beautiful, and there are plenty of loungers both by the pool and on the beach. The ocean right in front of the resort is perfect for swimming and relaxing. There are also activities available if you want to stay active, but it never feels forced — you can be as relaxed or as busy as you want. Noise Level Another thing we loved was how peaceful it was. The resort is very quiet, especially in the evenings, which made it perfect for a honeymoon. You can sit by the ocean, listen to the waves, and truly switch off from everyday life. Value For what you get, the resort offers great value. The combination of the beautiful location, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and relaxing atmosphere made it completely worth it for us. It really felt like a special experience rather than just a regular hotel stay. A few tips for future guests: • Wake up early at least once to watch the sunrise over the ocean — it’s unforgettable. • Spend some time just relaxing on the beach loungers in the morning when it’s extra peaceful. • Take a walk along the beach — the coastline around the resort is beautiful. • And if you’re lucky enough to have Premillah as your housekeeper, you’ll be very well looked after! Overall, our honeymoon at Solana Beach Mauritius was absolutely fantastic and we would return without hesitation. It’s the perfect place if you’re looking for a peaceful, romantic getaway with beautiful scenery and wonderful people. Read less

Special shout out for the Tram at the Ylang Spa. Vima is a hugely experienced and very capable therapist her iron fingers certainly sorted my lower back pain. Very ably supported by Anevi whose enthusiastic support from the admin side deserves full praise. Mauritius is not a cheap place so the treatment prices are welcoming good value.
