The hotel

This all-inclusive, beachfront gem is perfectly placed on the island’s sought-after south coast, just minutes from Bridgetown, pairing postcard-worthy ocean views with one of the best locations in Barbados. Rooms are bright and breezy with garden, pool or sea views, and there’s space for everyone, from romantic escapes to laid-back family holidays. Days drift by between turquoise swims, two sparkling pools and indulgent moments at the spa. Dining is where Sugar Bay really shines. Four restaurants are included, but it’s the award-winning Asian fusion spot, Umi, that steals the show. Boho-chic style, unbeatable views, a prime south coast setting and a loyal following of returning guests - Sugar Bay Barbados is the kind of place you’ll want to come back to, too.

A great two week stay at Sugar Bay, the staff were all great so friendly, nothing a problem. The choice of food and drinks for an all inclusive hotel was great, very fresh and a lot of variety. The beach was clean and any seaweed that was washed in was cleared quickly. A place that we will definitely return to.

We spent 10 nights at Sugar Bay and had a great time, although we were slightly surprised at how laid back, quiet, and relaxed it was - it lacked atmosphere at times- even just a little music! With that said, easily the two best features of this hotel are the wonderful staff and the food/drink. The majority of staff are fabulous (especially Keshawna) and really look after you and we really liked the high quality drinks and cocktails, although we were slightly surprised at the amount of plastic glasses (often damaged and in poor condition) in use (and single use plastics) - understandable during the day but in the evening…. The buffet and two restaurants were very good, as was Collins bar. The room was really big and fairly well serviced. Evening entertainment was pleasant. The main criticism for me was the pool and surrounds - too shallow (you can’t swim properly in it really with the depth and size of it), and the steps in the pool along with the very coarse surface are a bit of a hazard. Be prepared to stub your toes and graze your knees. I was also disappointed that the pool surrounds were often dirty and floors not cleaned. Note also that to transit to the beach area you will need to walk through the outdoor dining area or walk through the reception area. The only toilet for the pool area is by reception (inside), needless to say I didn’t see many people using it (I’ll let you imagine the rest). The pool often turned our swimwear yellow- unsure why. Be mindful that there is a strong current running across the bay. I suspect many will be expecting the sea to be perfectly calm and pristine, I watched the water sports guys sending paddle boarders out in conditions that were absolutely not suitable for beginners (wind and current). Although we had a great holiday, would we go back to Sugar Bay-? Probably not. Read less

Special mention to Tiffany, Kay, Akeem, Damian and Andrea they all made a difference to us on our 2nd stay. It's such a cute hotel with fab food in the buffet as well as upgrade restaurants. Both bars have amazing cocktails menus but staff will do any other cocktails for you too. I really like the granola station at breakfast with fresh berries but suggest natural yoghurt to be there, we asked for it daily and got it but would be good to have a bowl of it there along with flavoured yoghurts. Lovely beach and plenty of sun-beds. Lovely chilled vibe. Customers are all really friendly too and everyone takes time to exchange daily pleasantries. We walked daily along the beach to Carlisle bay (about 10-15 mins) to snorkel but other than that we didn't venture out as it was our 2nd visit we were happy to chill. There was a tiny bit of sargassum for 1 day while we were there but it seems that Sugar Bay is a little protected by the reef as the beaches either side had quite a bit. It's the only place I have ever visited twice (big world, little time) but there will definitely be a 3rd Read less

I’m writing this review because the reviews were a big part of my decision making on my vacation . I am so glad I decided on Sugar Bay ! When we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms and a nice cold beer Natalie at the reception was absolutely amazing. She explained everything to us regarding the hotel and then a wonderful gentleman I believe his name was Dave showed that to our room and just explained a few details. The room was nicely decorated and very clean. We had a balcony overlooking the ocean the view was stunning. The beach it’s absolutely beautiful. There are plenty of chairs and umbrellas on the beach .The Reef bar was right on the beach which serves delicious frozen drinks and had amazing bartenders Re-Shawn , Damion and Xavier to name a few . The fruit kabobs serves on the beach was a nice treat. The pool was nice with a swim up bar but we spent most of our time at the beach .The buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner were served in the Reef restaurant. There was a wide selection of food I personally I think there was something for everyone. There are three restaurants and during your stay you can have one dinner at the one of your choice . We chose Sizzle steakhouse where I ate one of the best steaks I ever had. There was also great nightly entertainment . The entire staff was fantastic ! There was always someone to help you with anything needed. We felt really safe at this resort with all the security walking around .If you are looking for a fun yet very relaxing vacation this is definitely the place .I would recommend this resort to anyone visiting Barbados. We visited Sugar Bay at the end of March for 10 days into early April and can honestly say it was amazing! From the moment we checked in we felt welcome and at home. Check in was super quick and they were so lovely to our daughter. You are greeted with a rum punch! The location is perfect, one side of the hotel is the beach and the pool is the other side. We are usually pool people but the beach was so beautiful we spent more time there. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and you get a good morning or hello from everyone you pass. The staff are amazing and can’t do enough to help you. Food is delicious! Always a great choice and continually topped up. Lots of fresh fruit, veg and salads available and lots of other yummy dishes and treats. Drinks are fab too and they will make you any cocktail or drink you want! Even when we were waiting to be picked up to go home they came round and offered us drinks. We would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone and will definitely be returning. Read less
