The hotel

A veritable castle in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is an impeccable symbol of indulgence and pedigree. Offering the luxury and services of a world-class hotel, all guest rooms are beautifully furnished with every attention to detail observed. Facilities include a state-of-the-art health club, accessible 24-hours a day, with indoor heated swimming pool and saunas. Pilates and Yoga classes are available at the Sitka Studios or treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering at the Absolute Spa. There’s also some prime shopping in the lobby with designers stores selling plenty to tempt you! Although you’re close to plenty of restaurants and bars in the downtown area, the Fairmont’s very own Notch8 Restaurant & Bar is the ideal place to relax and watch the world pass by. Named after a train’s top speed, achieved only by the most skilled conductors, the restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific railway. A traditional afternoon tea is also served here daily — for a special occasion, add a glass of champagne or, if the kids want to tag along, childish delights include Bubblegum Tea, fresh strawberries and cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

We stayed for the weekend and had a really enjoyable visit. The staff were all great. It was extremely busy when we arrived to check our bags and the bellman was busy but made sure to acknowledge us and let us know he would be with us as soon as possible. The lobby had nice seating areas while we were waiting. Sadly the dogs were not at the concierge desk on Friday and Saturday but one of them was there on Sunday when we checked out. The room was nice and we loved the vintage postcards. I loved that they have an indoor pool and there is a lot of nice, comfortable seating around the pool. The pool is surrounded by windows and is very bright. I appreciated that they had a water cooler beside the pool as I often get thirsty doing laps. We did wish there was a hot tub though. The pool itself could use a bit of a refresh as it has some rusty spots and the ceiling above the pool also needs some repair. The change room was nice and clean and had lots of amenities that you might need such as Q-tips and a comb which I appreciated. There is a historical feel to the hotel with the original post office "tube" on each floor which was fun. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. Read less

You overbooked my room and took no responsibility. I booked a King Suite but was downgraded to a Junior Deluxe and told they were the same. They’re not. You overbooked my room and took no responsibility. I booked a King Suite but was downgraded to a Junior Deluxe and told they were the same. They’re not. When I raised the issue, I was simply told nothing else was available. This was for getting ready on my wedding day, and I was left scrambling at the last minute to find another hotel the day before. The hotel offered zero help; no alternative room and no effort to rebook me elsewhere. For a hotel of this calibre, that level of service is shocking. To make matters worse, when we walked into Junior Deluxe, the space felt outdated and mismatched, and even the corridor leading to the room set a disappointing tone. It was a stark contrast to the photos online, and honestly quite shocking to walk into. Overall, an extremely poor experience with virtually nonexistent customer service. I feel compelled to warn others so they don’t face the same situation I did especially if you plan for a special event. Do NOT count on these guys. Read less

Location is great - walkable to lots of activities and shops. The restaurant has amazing food and service for both breakfast and a seafood dinner. Rooms are very corporate style, comfortable, amazing full bar-fridge full of items for purchase. Pool was under renovations, it was open but basic. Kids loved it. Hard to get wifi down there.
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Pool condition is shocking and unworthy of this beautiful hotel

I am bummed to write this review because I’ve wanted to stay at this hotel forever and finally got the chance. The pool should be closed. The ceiling is peeling off and the pool is rusting and warping. What obviously used to be a hot tub is now an odd mini golf patch. This is unworthy of like a roadside motel let alone a fairmont. The ceiling is peeling off and the pool is rusting and warping. What obviously used to be a hot tub is now an odd mini golf patch. This is unworthy of like a roadside motel let alone a fairmont. It’s also incredibly crowded. I love a saltwater pool though. I could hear others complaining about how cold it was but I liked that it was tepid. Now to the good parts: The gym is very big and well-equipped. The equipment could use consistent maintenance but were in working order and everything very clean. Locker rooms also generously sized. The sauna is inside the locker room and prob fits about 3 adults comfortably (needs better signage though I guess that would lead to more crowding). Rooms are generously sized with very comfortable beds. Very quiet and well insulated from the noise from west Georgia st. And hallelujah for a real bathroom with real doors! Breakfast is delicious and service attentive and friendly without being overbearing. And of course location can’t be beat. Close to the skytrain station if you’re coming from the airport and close to everything downtown and yaletown. I got a great deal even for a high floor but the condition of the pool really shocked me. Read less
